Lagoon Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That element does look cool, only it's right out of a break run . If that element is actually part of the coaster then they beat RMC to the 270 Degree Stall! Clearly this would not be the never-been-done surprise they are talking about...right? I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing more! -
Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to OzCatter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I feel like Worlds of Fun will see a new coaster sooner than 2018, then again maybe I'm just hopeful (or hopeless?). The park has been making smaller investments such as combining the water park and adding new water slides, adding Dinosaurs Alive, and obtaining a relocated Windseeker in the past few years, so I feel like they have something good in store for us thrill seekers. Other than a new coaster, I'd love to see another large flat ride or a replacement for Tidal Wave or Viking Voyager in the next few years. Also, if Cedar Fair is planning to move Mantis to another park in their chain, I would not be too upset to see it end up at World's of Fun. It's at least better than Patriot, and it fulfills their need for another large looping coaster. -
I understand that not every ride can be a thrill ride, but it'd be awesome if Justice League would incorporate some spinning elements like Men in Black, Cat in the Hat, Spiderman, Forbidden Journey...other dark rides, or the jerkiness and excitement of Toy Story Mania. Either way, probably any indoor ride at SFoT is a win and if it's done well at all then I'll probably visit the ride more than once. My main fear is that families that have visited Disney and Universal parks will ride this and then shrug it off as nothing special. At the same time, I think those of us here realize that this is actually something quite special for Six Flags and since SFoT is the Six Flags park I visit the most - I'm pretty excited for Justice League!

If there is a twisty drop, by the rumors I'm guessing it would be a half barrel roll to a quarter loop with a 180 degree nearly-vertical spiral to follow..now that sounds pretty awesome. It doesn't sound like a B&M wing-rider drop or anything else I can think of, and I seriously doubt anyone will be truly disappointed by this ride if it is built by RMC. Hopefully we find out what this is tomorrow!

The swings will be gone I'm not trying to bring up the Time Machine thing (this thread has gone a little haywire), but this post was just way too good not to re-post. Even if SFFT got Time Machine, at least it's not a relocated Boomerang. I'm going to guess an S&S Free Spin will be more controlled, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I think I'd be a little disappointed to wait 1-2 hours to ride a Zac Spin and not get an insane (no pun intended) ride. The Free Spin prototype makes it seem like you'll get the same ride every time.

Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Let's hope they run the same program as they did at Celebration City. It was actually pretty intense for it's size, and it really was a huge surprise. With the added theming, this is a great thrill ride for SDC. What the **** is the Fire Wagon Frenzy? It looks and sounds like an elevated flat ride giving a motion simulator style ride experience without any screens. Could it perhaps be another relocated and re-themed ride from Celebration City? I think it was called Flying Carpet and sat right next to Thunderbolt. The rest of the new area just looks incredible. The detail looks incredible, and that is one elaborate building for a children's play area. I am assuming the balloon ride is SDC's old balloon ride where Tom Sawyer's Landing is currently? Seems like an all around great investment...though I still can't help looking ahead for what comes after this... -
Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Funny story, my brother made his first trip to SFA yesterday (Sunday) and it was somewhat of a bummer for his group because of Joker's Jinx's breakdown; Superman, Batwing and Apocalypse were all closed as a result and neither Superman nor Batwing reopened before he left. However, his group complained and even spoke with management. His friends certainly made a viable argument because they each got a free meal and flash passes for the day, and I can't think of any park that ever offers retribution for rides being closed. I guess customer service isn't completely lost at Six Flags! -
Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
SDC does have a nice "twilight" discount where if you visit after 4 PM, then your admission is still good the next day (as of last year, I didn't try this or check when I visited SDC this year). The discount also works with two day tickets if your first entry is after 4PM, and White Water at least used to have a similar discount. In a way, I agree. Outlaw Run is overshadowed by height, speed, and steepness, but I think most people who have ridden other RMC coasters, including Goliath, have said Outlaw Run was their favorite of the bunch. Outlaw Run's first drop really grew on me this year. I wasn't too impressed with the drop last year and for some reason it just felt short, but now I can't forget about that airtime! -
You know you're a Six Flags park if...
The Yeti replied to coasterdude5's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You're in line for a roller coaster and the operator is bumping the microphone with her hands and creating a beat while the other employees start to dance. - This happened in line for Mr. Freeze at SFoT a few years ago. This seems like something people might complain about, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and I was honestly disappointed that there was no improvised music while in line later that day. I actually thought it showed that the employees were enjoying themselves at work, and they were only running one train that day so there was really no issue with capacity/loading times there. -
When brakes bite hard
The Yeti replied to Samuel's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Same with Titan at SFOT. Both the MCBR and final break run are shockingly abrupt. Even when you're ready for it, the breaks are just awful. I always wished that Titan would haul through its second half with some necessary trims before the helix, but sitting near the front dangling practically sideways towards the ground and moving so slowly after the MCBR is pretty freaky. Still though, I don't see why they can't bring it to a gradual stop. Sometimes wooden coasters can have rough stops in the station when the ride ops are aligning the rides with the entrance gates, but otherwise I can't think of many notably rough stops enforced by breaks. This is kind of random...but the only time I've thrown up at a theme park was at SDC after a long day. What set if off was my second ride of the day: Fire in the Hole. While I've never experienced this since one visit when I was about 8 years old and after the final hill when we hit the breaks/"splashdown" my stomach slammed into the restraints so hard that I had a terrible stomach ache the rest of the day, and then I blew chunks while leaving the park. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll agree that a launch into an Immelman is kind of lame, but B&M is building a launched coaster. A launched wing-rider is probably the next coolest concept to a launched flying coaster, and I've gotta say this ride has me pumped. At least it's not a boring curved B&M drop followed by this layout - it has a freaking (themed) launch. Whether or not this ride is great, this is a great step for B&M (and Holiday World in my opinion)...then again ten years ago I never thought I'd have to say that about B&M. -

If this is the S&S tower from Celebration City, it is not very tall but it gave a great ride. I hope that SDC will run the same "program" which features a downward launch after the second upwards launch. It had some serious negative G's. Of course I'd love a taller drop tower, but this was probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite ride at Celebration City so I'd say it's certainly a welcome addition to SDC. -
Carowinds Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know...I think it was one airtime hill and one speed hill! If this layout is accurate, it doesn't like like it will have much airtime at all. It still looks like a step up from Leviathan for me! -
"No Single Riders" policies.
The Yeti replied to frost man's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I tried to do exactly that on Friday, June 27th of this year at a carnival in Countryside, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago) and nearly got arrested and thrown in jail for it. They had the Zipper at that carnival, I tried to go on alone, the operator would not even budge to let me on by myself, then I asked around if anyone was available to ride the Zipper with me, and they complained to the police. And not only did I not get a chance to ride one of my all time favorite carnival rides for the first time in almost 3 years, but I nearly end up spending the night, possibly even longer, in jail. I really have a hard time believing this. Yes, there are some real bitches and bastards in this world, but the notion of someone going out of their way to call the police on you because you wanted to ride a Zipper because you're a single rider is just too unbelievable. It could be that after asking if someone would ride with him, the people he asked complained to the police. If it was the carnival management, then I'm guessing he made a scene and maybe he deserved to be escorted out of the carnival. I think frost man deserves a break, but he also needs to give these carnival companies a break. I'm sure this policy was not created to alienate single people and that it is a safety/insurance issue which is probably why larger carnival companies actually have such policies. -
In my first few trips to SFOT, Titan opened later than the rest of the coasters - but that was pre-NTAG. I would ask the attendants at the entrance if either coaster is opening late (whether or not they know, it can't hurt to ask). The last time I visited I didn't get to the park until after 11 AM, so all of the rides including NTAG were open by then. I also highly doubt any other coaster in the park would open late, except for maybe Shockwave. A few of my visits to SFOT in the past were at the end of August, and the crowds weren't too bad - but early August could be a different story. I've never encountered more than a wait from the station on Titan, but most other coasters have had 30-45 minute waits.I'd look for Mr. Freeze and NTAG to have the longest lines as well as Superman Power of Tower. However, Superman usually has a single rider line open which is very nice.

Insane Coaster Wars Season 3
The Yeti replied to CPSFMMCW's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't say I have heard any thing good about Silver Star through this site or any other coaster sites, but I can't imagine it deserved the lowest spot among those other coasters. On a sadder note....I forgot to record the first few episodes of this season . -
S&S or Intamin
The Yeti replied to coastercrazy216's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Most S&S towers are amazing rides, and they generally fit in my top 10 rides of each park that has one - but I've only ridden one true S&S drop tower (the blue Power Tower at Cedar Point) which holds nothing to any Intamin Drop Towers. Superman at Six Flags over Texas is fantastic as a combo tower, but a single drop on an S&S Tower is not nearly as good. Intamin wins again...I think I've only ridden three Intamin Drop Towers: Demon Drop at Cedar Point was amazing, Drop Tower at Carowinds was insane despite being fairly small, and Giant Drop at SFGAm blew me away. I can't imagine Zumanjaro or Lex Luthor, those two just seem terrifying. -
IAAPA Asia 2014 Updates!!!
The Yeti replied to gerstlaueringvar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^That being said, the layout looked different...but who said it would be a knock-off? The Wanda Group doesn't manufacture rides to my knowledge, do they? I would guess they are just showing off ideas for theme parks, but I do agree that the idea of a (presumably Golden Horse) knock-off giga-coaster sounds terrible. Oh the Flying Dutchman with an inverted looper layout? I'll take that!
