  1. I was actually wondering what had happened to PhantomPoster and why he hadn't let us in on any details. I could also swear he was up to four accounts at one point last year
  2. I may close my eyes as a reflex during pretzel loops, but not necessarily out of fear. I think the most frightening parts of B&M flying coasters are the lift hills...just staring down at the ground which is getting farther and farther away from you, with all of your weight on the restraints. Pretzel loops and vertical loops on flying coasters are easily some of my favorite elements, eyes open or closed.
  3. Orient Express did derail before it was removed and I don't believe it opened to the public again after that, but I could be wrong about the second part. I will definitely agree with Orient Express as a ride I wish I could ride again. I was pretty young the last time I rode it, but the drops on that ride were insanely good in the back seat. Unfortunately, I cannot say Orient Express was a smooth ride by any means...
  4. It's actually better because it's a flying coaster, not necessarily because it's launched . I love log flumes, and KD's does not disappoint, but if they built a flying coaster like Universal Japan's or Starry Sky Ripper, I wouldn't be sad to see it go.
  5. The rumor was for a launched flying coaster, which would be way more awesome.
  6. Here is a photo I grabbed from Table Rock Lake. The quality is pretty poor as it was taken on my iPhone 5c, but it's an angle that people rarely get to see. From the lake you can just barely see the lift hill and top of the first drop of Outlaw Run from the lake, but you have to look very closely it in this photo (to the left of Powder Keg along the lines of the trees). You can also see the first few elements and the lift hill of Powder Keg and most of Wildfire, but again it's not the best photo. Also, with the area cleared near Thunderation, I would guess SDC is going with concept #2 in the next couple years. Why would they clear that land if they are going with concept #1?
  7. ^ I've never been to SFNE, but I would never wait in a line to ride that thing. Adventureland in Iowa has or had a similar ride which just flat out sucked. This is a win for the park!
  8. I found this to be true as well. I've always liked the Magic Mountain version, but this was unpleasant. The bottom of the drop was far more rough / bumpy than the MM version and that extra helix didn't do the ride any favors. One thing I did notice is that it still drew huge crowds and, aside from NTAG, was the "big draw" ride of the park. I don't know what's caused it to be so much rougher than the SFMM one, but it could certainly use some work. I haven't visited the park in a while, but every time I've visited Titan was smooth and had a three train wait max, while New Texas Giant, Mr. Freeze and Batman all had long lines. I used to not care much for Titan at all, but I enjoyed it on my last visit for what it is - tall, fast and intense. That being said, I actually wish Titan would be removed or relocated (doubt that will ever happen) since it has a large footprint and could be replaced by better rides.
  9. I went to the park yesterday and had a really good time. The lines for Kingda Ka and El Toro were both 1.5-2 hours throughout the day, but that was pretty much expected, and it was my fault for not getting there before opening (turning off my alarm clock in my sleep ). It seemed that many of the major coasters had mechanical issues at some point yesterday, and although I am patient, I think my group was fairly frustrated. -Joker had a minor mechanical issue while I was in line, but I ended up waiting only 30 minutes total to ride. I may have lucked out though because the ride was down later and a man on a cherry picker was working on something near the lift hill. I'm not sure if it reopened after that. -I was only two trains away from boarding Bizzaro before it had a minor mechanical issue, and rather than waiting it out my group decided to try our luck on other rides - I believe it opened after 30 minutes of downtime. -Kingda Ka went down at least three times while I was in line, but only for 10-15 minutes each time. -Green Lantern went down once while I was in line, and then the restraints on my train got stuck after the ride. The ride operator said something about overshooting the train. She was pissed and it seemed it may have been another operators fault, so that was mildly entertaining. Eventually they unlocked our restraints manually and I got out of there. -I saw El Toro run some empty trains in the early evening, although I'm not sure if there were any technical issues. On to the positives...I visited the park for my first time last year, and I loved it just as much this time. I managed to get one ride on each of the following: -Joker - This was our first ride of the day and my first 4D coaster. The sensation of the seats flipping was just awesome. I really loved the ride despite only getting two full flips. I'm not sure if either the green or purple side is better than the other. Both seemed to vary quite a bit with rotations while I was in line watching the ride, but I rode green and was not disappointed. -Batman - I felt like it was less intense than my rides on Batman at SFOT, but it was early in the day and still a very intense ride. My group was pretty impressed with the intensity. -Nitro - Awesome hypercoaster with lots of airtime. I love how Nitro manages to deliver airtime on its twisty hills and not just the straight ones, and it also pulls some decent positive g's. -Dark Knight - We waited about 30-45 minutes for this ride. I rode the Dark Knight at Great America a few years ago, and this was worse than I remembered. Riding Dark Knight was my main regret of the day. -Zumanjaro - I love drop rides, and the length of the drop on Zumanjaro makes it one of my favorites. There are probably more intense drop rides out there, but I kept waiting for the breaks to hit which enhanced the free fall that much more. Green Lantern - The ride is a bit rough and bumpy, but still a lot of fun. There aren't many stand up coasters left and this has to be one of the best by far. El Toro - Oh baby. El Toro has some insane airtime. There is nothing like being torn out of your seat. This ride is truly remarkable and easily lands in my top 5, and it may even be my number one coaster! Kingda Ka - I wish I had gone for the front seat ride, but we rode at the end of the day, the ride was being temperamental, and my group was ready to go home. I ended up riding in row three, and although it was a little bumpy, it was totally worth the two hour wait. It's hard to believe I spent 10 hours at the park and only rode seven rides. I suggested getting the Flash Pass, but my friends didn't want to cough up the dough. I've rarely visited parks on weekends, especially during the summer, so I'm used to waits under 30 minutes. It was still a great trip and I'm glad my friends got a taste of multiple world-class coasters. I can't wait to head back to the park!
  10. Intimidator was running two trains when I visited last night. I definitely felt like it helped keep the lines shorter, but it couldn't have helped too much with it being a short ride. Volcano has run two trains every time I visited the park, and during two of those visits the park was completely dead. Dominator was running so well last night. It seems so much better than when I rode it earlier this season, though I'm sure riding late on a very hot day really helped. Although I like I-305 better overall, getting a great ride on Dominator like my two rides last night is a rarer event and I would highly recommend making Dominator your last ride of the day if the park is open late. Do they ever use the trim break on Dominator? The last two times I visited it didn't seem it was in use.
  11. ^I haven't visited SFA yet, but if you leave after 3:30 PM, count on it taking you one and a half to two hours to get from the park through Baltimore. From Baltimore, I believe Hershey is between 60 and 90 minutes, but you may hit traffic from the Pennsylvania commuters on I-83. I commute the opposite direction each day (from DC to Baltimore in the morning, Baltimore to DC in the evening) and the people commuting from Baltimore have it much worse than I do. I would seriously try to leave Six Flags before 4:00 PM. I would also recommend downloading Waze (a smartphone app) if you don't already have it, as it does better than Google Maps with giving you the fastest routes.
  12. ^This guy cracks me up. You do have to admit that the path in the picture you posted on the last page doesn't look amazing, but at the same time it's a pathway and it's not like we're driving on it. Timberwolf's condition was and is more concerning than the pathways, and I would take a nice, new, shiny coaster over new pavement any day. The park has been doing tons to its infrastructure over the past 5-10 years and I'm sure they will continue to do more. The same cannot really be said for its thrill ride department.
  13. ^Holy crap! WOW! That truly is incredible. I usually skip shows at parks, but that is one I would absolutely have to see in person. The two pirates attractions (the boat ride and this show) are both mind blowing and they really have me wanting to visit Shanghai Disney!
  14. Reality check - Some people here tend to get very carried away with their praise of the Skull Mountain drop from the back row. Now, I'm not hating on it, I like the drop, but that's all you get. I just want to make it clear that yes the back is great but like I said I like SM for its so-bad-its-great quality. When I rode Skull Mountain I was thinking it would be a clone of SFOT's, but then I realized the trains were different once I got to the station. Knowing most coasters are better in the back, including SFOT's Skull Mountain, I chose the best seat in the house and oh man, that drop caught me off guard. I am glad I hadn't read anything about it on here first because that was a huge surprise. I was expecting more after that, but it was really just a decent little ride in the end.
  15. Doesn't the park have the ability to adjust the fins so it can flip more or less often? I assume it is not something that could be changed throughout the day, but I'd be interested in seeing if that changes at all throughout the season. If I'm wrong, then hopefully I get a wildly unbalanced ride resulting in more flips when I visit.
  16. I'm okay with calling it anything but Guy Fieri. That name turns me as red as the flames on his shirts. I'm flying in to San Francisco next week and going to Pebble Beach, and I am really hoping to make it out to the park. It all depends on whether or not my family is up for it, but I'm thinking The Joker alone is worth the trip. My fingers are crossed!
  17. haha. We rode it during our previous trips, but wipeouts make me sick. Now that is the real shame, although any regular Wipeout is nothing special to me. I'll consider myself lucky!
  18. I always enjoy trip reports of my former home park. However, because you did not ride Cyclone Sam's, I will ring my shame bell. "Ding Ding!" - "SHAME!" (Game of Thrones reference to those who think I'm a nut). When I visited last year, I also found Patriot to be better than I remembered. Though I'm typically a back seat rider, I definitely found it to be better and more forceful in the front. I also agree that the park needs a new, top-notch addition. I don't know if I see the park building a coaster in excess of 200 feet, so at least in the GP's eyes that would likely remain Worlds of Fun's signature attraction, but they need a ride that will shake things up a bit in a non-literal sense - looking at you, Timberwolf!
  19. You didn't mention Fahrenheit's drop, as I'm assuming you preferred Impulse's, but who doesn't like a beyond vertical drop? I'm going to put words in your mouth and say you like everything about Fahrenheit but the Cobra Roll, and I'll agree that the Cobra Roll isn't as great as the rest of the ride. I actually thought Fahrenheit had decent forces near the bottom of each element. I rode in the back seat on both of my rides and I got some decent air coming out of the Norwegian Loop. The corkscrews may not be as snappy as some of B&M's, but they are smooth and they kick ass! I think Fahrenheit is a great ride which is underrated by coaster enthusiasts, yet possibly overrated by the general public. In my opinion, it is better than Great Bear and almost as good as Storm Runner.
  20. Well, it's a pretty small park with attendance so they kinda need the money. Pretty big investment for lightning rod. I think 1 day passes are ok at 60$ but no more. i usually compare them to snowboarding ticket prices. Why does it say I wrote that? I would never say that about Dollywood. Nicman, you're not using the quotes right and putting words in my mouth. This was too funny. I don't understand why people are giving DeafetistNation crap about being let down by Dollywood. I'm sure Dollywood is a great park. I haven't had the chance to visit yet, but I've been to Silver Dollar City plenty of times and I know the parks are similar. I believe Dollywood, like SDC, lacks a large collection of great thrill rides. They have some great coasters, but you can ride everything thrilling within a matter of 3-4 hours. It's not going to stop me from visiting every year and riding the coasters over and over again, but as someone who doesn't go to parks to see shows, visit shops and watch parades, I can see how he was disappointed. SDC and Dollywood have incredible atmospheres which add to the experience, but people call it "Steal Your Dollar City" for a reason and I'm sure Dollywood isn't too far off at $70 per ticket. The price hasn't deterred me from visiting SDC, but I think in 5-10 years, as the parks continue to expand, $70 for a one-day ticket is much more easily a justifiable price.
  21. Wow! That ride is just massive. I think this will easily be in my top 5 rides at SFOT.
  22. No offense, but I really don't see GCI breaking any records in the near future. Maybe "Most Banked Turns on a Wooden Coaster," which is a record I assume they already hold, but I don't see them going for height or speed. Also, maybe I don't pay enough attention, but Cedar Fair hasn't seemed to go big for anniversaries so I personally would not predict a large addition lining up with Kings Island's 50th.
  23. That Immelman looks naaasty! The corkscrew looks pretty good, too. It's been over ten years, and I no longer live anywhere near there, but I may have to visit Adventureland again during a visit home in the next couple years!
