Ride 'O the Past
screaminkid2005 replied to Skramp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know people are going to hate two of the rides i'm going to say, but I really miss Great American Scream Machine, Rolling Thunder, & Batman & Robin: The Chiller. I've been visiting Six Flags Great Adventure ever since I was 6 or 7 and those are the coasters I remember the most from my childhood. Rolling Thunder was my first major coaster so it will always have a special place in my heart. Great American Scream Machine always looked so massive when I was little, but I was always too scared to ride it until I was 15 or so. Ever since my first ride on it i've loved the ride and I was really sad to see it go. Batman & Robin: The Chiller was that ride I remember seeing walking up to the parks main gate and just thinking wow. It looked like such a fun ride, but like GASM I was too scared to ride until I was 15. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to ride the Batman side, but did ride the Robin side a bunch of times with the roll. The roll on this ride was/still is my favorite inversion of all time. -
Wow I feel like i'm wicked out of the loop because i've never heard of more than half of these places! The only places I have around me are Taco Bell, Mc Donalds, Burger King, Wendy's, and Five Guys.

Bud Light last night! Ever since i've been dieting, i've cut all alcohol out of my life until I weigh 200lbs. There were two exceptions and this was one of them. My tolerance has gone way down since I stopped drinking and I'm now a light weight again! I love it! -

I agree with the dining options. At every food location we went too they seemed to really only have chicken tenders, corn dogs, and burgers. Although my burger was really good, I wish they offered some type of local dishes so travelers can also enjoy in the regions flavors. -
This past summer a few co workers and I decided to take a trip up to Great Adventure for Fright Fest. My friend Jess really wanted to go on Green Lantern because she had never been on a stand up coaster before. Anyway, she had a pair of sunglasses that she forgot were on top of her head and as we went through the first loop, they flew off her head, I saw this and quickly smacked them to the floor and stepped on them the entire ride. Thankfully they were not broken and she was extremely happy I saved them for her.

^I never said it was a great site... In fact I stated that these weren't even great reasons for someone new to come in and build on that land. I'm not saying it because I want some park to come in and take it over tomorrow. I'm just stating the facts that have been thrown in front of me. Also even those two reasons right there are millions compared to building them from scratch for a new property. It's not cheap to build up utilities to a certain site and who knows how much of the underground water and sewer lines. For all we know they might be in decent shape, but i'm not holding my breath on that. Am I saying this a 100 million dollar saving opportunity? No. But if someone were to build on the site, they will be saving money due to things that are already pre built. To answer your question, lets look at the two main facts that have been given about the area. 1. It's not in the best area of town. 2. It's in an area that is prone to flooding. Those two reasons alone are enough to turn people away. I think the risks is just too high and not worth it because it could potentially happen again. -

Hey guys! Its update time! Today's adventure takes us to Magic Springs & Crystal Falls in Hot Springs, AR! This was probably the most rushed park of the who trip. That being said, I didn't get a ton of photos of the park because we were basically running to get the credits and still have time to eat. Anyway I thought it was a cute little park. It's defiantly a family oriented park, but does have some pretty decent major thrill rides. Also, any park that has a mini S&S double shot tower is ok in my book! Onto the photos! Walking in you get this great view of what the water park has to offer. If we had more time I would have gone, but Outlaw Run is more important. =p Before entering the park, park employees gave us these free 2012 cups! The parks main entrance sign. Once you enter the park, you are greeted by this pretty fountain. First credit of the park. Yea we were being credit whores... So what. =] Next up. This is the only one in America! While I thought the park was beautifully landscaped, it looks like they may have missed a spot. =P Hey its Neil & Ian! While waiting in line, it broke down for about 15-20 minutes. Causing most of the GP to leave the line leaving it mainly TPR in line. #Dedication Soon after the break down we were on the ride. Honestly I loved the ride. It gives you that "Oh Sh*t" moment for most of the ride. Next up was Big Bad John. This was the other side to Six Flags St. Louis's River King Mine Train. Needless to say, I wasn't every impressed with it. It was slow, boring, and the only good part was the drop at the very end that went right into breaks. The park had its share of family and kiddie rides. Next up was Gauntlet. For some reason it took us forever to figure out how to get to this coaster. This was really the only place you could see the ride from inside the park. This path that led to it looked like it was the exit to Plummet Summit water ride. Eventually we found the path and we were on our way. As you can see, it's pretty out of the way and it's the only ride down there. It's your typical SLC. Thankfully it was the only one on the entire trip. Personally I didn't think it was completely terrible. I wasn't a fan of the 1 train operation on it but the ride on average is 37 seconds from the top of the lift so it's not the biggest deal in the world. Plummet Summit looks much larger than it really is do to its location on the hill. In the middle of the park they also have this really pretty lake. The water color seemed a bit iffy though. After the last few photos is when we really started to rush on time. We got our final credit at the park, Arkansas Twister, then ran to get lunch. The service at the location we went too was really slow, but thats mainly because most of TPR slammed them all at once so they did the best they could. Thankfully Elissa gave us a little more time so everyone had the chance to eat and not be rushed. Overall I did enjoy the park. If we had a little more time at the park, I would have love to ride some of the flats but it wasn't a big deal because like I said earlier, Outlaw Run is more important. Some strange things that I noticed were how both Arkansas Twister and Gauntlet were pretty much out in the middle of no where, but both of those things can be fixed with the addition to new rides. I saw tons of room the park could use to expand so space isn't an issue with this park. I have high hopes for the park and with the addition of Sky Shark (Sky Coaster), I can't wait to go back and visit the park again in the future. So that was my experience at the park. I hope you guys enjoyed it. Questions -So have you guys ever been to Magic Springs before? -What did you think of it? -What did you like about it? -What do you think the park can improve on? Make sure to comment with your responses! I would love to hear your feedback! =] Next Update: Silver Dollar City! -

^Theres a few good reason that could save future parks for saving millions. Things like... -Having park access from major highways. -Having some type of layout available. -Things like having the parking lot already built. -Knowing that the area is already capable of getting a large amount of power directed to the area. Granted these aren't great reasons for other companies to want to come in and build on the land, but they are ways for other companies to save millions that they would most likely have to spend when building a completely new park somewhere else. They wouldn't have to completely clear the land. Sure most of the buildings will have to be torn down, but it's not like they have to tear down everything and start from scratch. -
I'd bet it was budget cuts. There's a reason why Ride of Steel only has 1 train. Bizarro at SFNE still has mist effects... I bet it was a budget cut too. Also Ride of Steel has two trains, every coaster at the park does. From what I heard, every coaster only ran one train this year due a dispute between managements. Maybe someone knows more or could help explain it better. Not every coaster at Darien Lake runs two trains, Boomerang and the kiddie coasteralways ran one train. I wouldn't think the reason that the coasters at Darien Lake the have more than one train are on single train operation is that of a dispute with Herschend and CNL. I would think that the second trains are just going under refurbishment. Do you know how Boomerangs and Kiddie Coasters work?! They have single trains for a reason! So two trains don't crash into eachother. Ride of Steel has no excuse to run only one train other than budget cuts. I know that there aren't 2 trains on boomerang and the kiddie coaster. I thought it was pretty obvious that I meant every coaster that could run 2 trains. Guess not...
