Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

Nice to see a little Scrambler love. I don't usually ride Scramblers at the big parks any more but I had one heck of a ride on the one at KD. It was a rainy day, most rides were shut down, but during a break in the rain, scrambler opened. As soon as we were on, the sky opened up and began pouring down rain. A very wet but fun ride. And yes, it stung. -
Believe it or not, the picnic just celebrated it's 103rd year. It still goes on although they have now moved it to friday and saturday. (and the town still shuts down) Features include the Kids Pedal Tractor pull, Ring toss competition, Bessie Bingo (Moo!) featured foods such as chicken and noodles, and the big headliner band of the event, Mustang Sally. I kid you not. Here's a pic of the Headliner and a link to the web site. http://www.blufftonicon.com/news/2016/08/10/103rd-annual-farmers-merchants-picnic-weekend-ada

The smallest and cheesiest event/carnival/town wide thing I have been to is the Ada, Ohio farmers and merchants picnic where I sorta grew up. It was always held on a wednesday and the entire town shut down for it. Population 2500 in the summer. There were only 2 rides, or 3 if you count pony rides. One was a trailer mounted swing ride. It was so small it was pulled by a beat up pick up truck. The other adult ride was a 1950's octopus that looked like it would fall apart at any minute. Eventually they added a kiddie boat swing ride. It was always the BIG happening in town . The pic is representative of the type of octopus they had, just in much better shape the the one at the Ada F & M Picnic.

Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"

I am going to go out on a limb and say that Adventure Express is most likely the best coaster ending ever. It is probably the only coaster that 100 years from now everyone will still be talking and arguing about. I can just imagine the designers of this ride just laughing their arses off at the reaction of riders to the ending. They knew it would be something talked about till, well, forever. They really did create an epic ending. ( side note, It is the lamest most bizarre ending ever to me, but you have to admit, there is no ending like it) -

While this looks like a lot of fun, I really wish more parks would bring back Flying Cages or Swinging Gyms. They were a lot of fun and also helped work off a little bit of those fried foods. I have seen a few remakes at some carnivals, and they always seem to be a hit. -
To add, I really hope you are kidding. Their trip is 3 months away and their brakes are questionable? If not for their own sake, the lives of others on the road. Imagine going to a park and the brakes on a coaster are in doubt, but hey, they " might be" good for another 3 months. Would you trust that ?

Nrthwnd, A truck inside your heart is a very good thing. You will always have something to tow the boat with. -
Crystal Beach was pretty cool. Very deco with lots of neon. Went there the last year it was open because my mother had always talked about it as being the go to place when she was a kid growing up in Buffalo. So I could not go, and glad I did go. The setting for Comet was A One. Giant Coaster is the only side friction coaster I have ridden, and it too was good.

After having rode all 4, here's my take from a couple of years ago at the Florida State Fair. Pulling into the parking lot, I was most excited to see Comet II. It looked great. The day was unusual for Fla, overcast and only a high of 60. First up, Super Cyclone. After waiting about 15 minutes to ride because of the 4 person per train requirement, (there was only 2 of us and we had to wait for 2 more riders) It is at best a glorified kiddy coaster, heavily trimmed. Next up was the spinning Mouse. Again, heavily trimmed and the short traveling version. (Kennywood's has it beat by a million times) Fun, just nothing remarkable. Next up was Comet II and what I was most looking forward too.I remembered riding the original Wildcat at CP, not the replacement one, and was hoping for somewhat of a wild ride. First off, the cars were not in the best of shape. Faded paint and the old headlight/taillight features were just a plain black painted plate. Maybe it was just the cold, but man was it disappointing. Slow and again, heavily trimmed. So that left us with RC48. We had heard bad things about it, so not too hopeful was our thought. Upon getting into the train, my first thought was, oh heck, Final Destination ! there was was so much duck tape all over the train, I almost backed out. Throwing my fate to the powers that be, I pulled down the OTS restraints thinking why in the heck? As I later discovered, it has to do with the very tight, we're talking inches of clearance. This turned out to be the best of the 4 coasters. Not too rough, and the only one that felt like a real coaster. (tho it did feel very temporary and Carny) Would I wait in a line if it was in a permanent park? No, but for a fair, it was a lot of fun and we tempted fate on it 5 times that day.

From seeing what goes on in a lot of court rooms, facts and laws be damned, it is going to boil down to the best lawyer that money can buy in the courtroom. I've seen it too many times.
