  1. Looks like catwalk, or at least temporary catwalk to me. Millennium Force's catwalk is also unpainted. Hopefully they get some vertical construction going soon, so we can get a better perspective of this coaster. As for teasers, Kings Dominion told me on their twitter that all the metal in the parking lot, and the construction is pretty much their teaser. Carowinds has no track at this point, so they get the good stuff, in my opinion at least.
  2. I never said they wouldn't draw crowds. I said they wouldn't be surpassing BGW's numbers. If they do, I'll be more than happy to admit I was wrong, but have you ever worked at a park? Do you know what it takes for a park to have an additional 1 million guests per year? When you only operate a full season of about 120 days, that's an additional 8,000 people PER DAY. I can tell you having worked at/with many theme parks that an increase like this is unheard of. And I don't think there is a single park in the world that would be prepared for an additional 8,000 people to come through the gates every day from the year before. I'm guessing that a "busy day" for KD is somewhere around 35,000ish people. So if all of a sudden 25% more people came the next year, I doubt the park would even have the infrastructure to handle it! Even in 2003 when Cedar Point added the tallest, fastest coaster in the world, they only saw an attendance increase of 3.3% or about 108,000 people for the season, or about 1,000 people per day. Trust me, I think you'll see a lot of people at KD in 2010, and I'm not biased about one park over the other, but if you're expecting KD's attendance to jump 800,000 to 1,000,000 additional people in 2010, I think you'll be quite disappointed when it doesn't happen. --Robb "Set realistic expectations - that's my advice." Alvey You don't factor in the drop in attendance that Busch Gardens will almost definitely see next year. Their attendance dropped off in 2008 when they did not add anything, not only will they not add anything for 2010, they will lose an attraction. I never said you were bias, I know you are not, I know you are very knowledgeable, but I think Kings Dominion will win the attendance battle. It will be VERY interesting to see who is right! I know a lot of fearless teens (about 100 % of teens), who will beg their parents to go to Kings Dominion just for this new coaster, which you know they will be seeing endless commercials for on tv. Teens would be part of a family, right. Anyway, nighty night Tpr members, try not to have to much fun speculating and crunching numbers without me.
  3. I really doubt this will be the case. Remember that Busch Gardens is part of a very popular vacation destination (Williamburg) and that has a lot more pull than Doswell. Saying that KD is going to "smoke" BG because they are adding a giant coaster is like saying that BGT is going to "smoke" Disney if they were to add something major. You'll see an increase at KD for sure, but I highly doubt they will ever touch BG's numbers. In 2008 BGW reported attendance of 3,094,000. In 2008, Cedar Fair said "...Our southern region parks entertained 4.4 million guests...the southern region are Kings Dominion, VA; Carowinds, NC; and Worlds of Fun, MO." So when three parks combined = about 3/4 of BGW's attendance alone, it would seem to me that Kings Dominion would have to see and increase of ~1 million guests in 2010 to surpass Busch's numbers. That seems unrealistic to me. I'm sure KD will do very well next year, but I hardly doubt they will be "smoking" Busch. --Robb "Who is not a fan boy of either park, just reading the numbers..." Alvey Robb, Williamsburg's population is roughly 12,000 people. Kings Dominion pulls from Richmond (200,000) and Dc (592,000). To add on to that, Kings Dominion is right off one of the major high ways in the US. Drawling crowds will not a problem. Kings Dominion has a location advantage by far, but for years could not boast anything to get people to come out. Now, they do. Busch Gardens, on the other hand, will not be adding, but subtracting attractions for 2010.
  4. No, they don't need to. A solid, signature 42" - 48" attaction would be just fine. --Robb I think we can compromise Robb. I would be happy if they added a mine train like Iron Horse at FSMP, but with some nice German theming (if it were to occupy the same space as Wolf), I believe that falls within your height limit. Hah, You are one heck of a Busch Gardens fanboy. Kings Dominion will smoke Busch Gardens in attendance with the addition of the giga coaster in 2010 and beyond, if Busch does not plan on adding a new country, or something very big to wow the GP. Avoid Me? Wouldn't dedicating a paragraph of your post to me, be the opposite? I am bias only in life, not in word. I have not trashed your beloved park one bit, in fact, I have praised them for removing Big Bad Wolf.
  5. As my favorite comedian would say "F*ck the children!". I'm not paying $50+ for mild rides (Ok, maybe I am also, but that's besides the point! ). BBW had some intense moments and that's what I loved about it. If they are tearing it down, it better be for a kick-as* coaster. I want an intense terrain coaster, no messing around. If they are going to replace such a great ride, it better be with something BETTER, not worse. And yes, that is my enthusiast opinion. It's the only opinion I really care about. Couldn't agree with you more. If Busch Gardens added another B&M, or even a woodie, I think I would actually go there more than once a year, rather than hanging out at Six Flags America and Kings Dominion. 4 B&Ms at one park would be absolutely great. All I can say is they better go Big with this "replacement", or as usual I will not be going to Busch Gardens anytime soon. Your selfish, closed minded "enthusiast" opinions are ruining "family parks." Sounds like you guys just need to go hang out at Kings Dominion and Six Flags America then. There are places for you, and it's clearly NOT Busch Parks. Are you not smart enough to realize that if all you want is "Big Coaster, Big Coaster, Big Coaster, Big Coaster, etc..." then you're going to turn Busch Gardens into Kings Dominion. Just look at what that mentality did to Knott's Berry Farm... --Robb Look at what adding lots of huge coasters did for Cedar Point, look at what Cedar Fair has done with the Paramount Parks. They added huge new coasters, and attendance went up. I have a feeling if Busch Gardens does not plan to add a new country with a huge new coaster, Kings Dominion may very well beat them in attendance. When You look around Busch Gardens, you already see two sections of the park solely dedicated to family attractions, now they really need to wow us and the GP with something Huge.
  6. Thing about Dramamine, is it makes some people (including me) Very tired, so it would be a good idea to try it a few days in advance to see if it does make you tired.
  7. All You have to say was Megan Fox, and I Will be going to this movie.
  8. If it was an Ikea Coaster, wouldn't the layout be MUCH more confusing?
  9. Thanks for all the free publicity! From My youtube channel a while back
  10. Oh god, Premier Rides such as Flight of Fear (Kings Dominion), and Round About (Freestyle Music Park) have the worst leg cramping, hard to get into, awful restraints ever. I really am a fan of all B&M Restraints, except for that of Time Machine's (Freestyle Music Park) restraints which do not give enough elbow space between riders.
  11. I am straight, and have a finance, but I must admit I did have a crush on a smoking hot owl in high school though we never "experimented".
  12. Hah, a lot of people say that! I am beginning to think it might need to be changed for that reason, but that is for the "Sexual Orientation" topic.
  13. Drachen Fire pretty much anywhere on the train, especially in the middle.
  14. I would have to say Millennium Force, so original right?
  15. Mine is the "No Grills Allowed" sign from the Picnic Sections at Kings Dominion.
  16. I have heard there are more stakes under Anaconda's break run. Does this mean it may be on its way out? I really have no clue, but I would be much more saddened to see Anaconda go than Big Bad Wolf. What could they replace it with, nothing! Who knows, these stakes could just be construction boundaries, I really hope that is all they are. Who knows.
  17. 18. Alright, 1. I have a odd fear of heights, yet it seems to go away on coasters. 2. I actually like Cedar Point more than Kings Dominion 3. I root for Virginia Tech, yet I go to George Mason University 4. One of my best friends plays baseball on the Chicago Cubs 5. My girlfriend and I were born on the same day (not the same year)
  19. It would be the most logical choice especially if they plan on using any of the already existing terrain for a new coaster. At this point, I would be surprised not to see a B&M. It seems to me, that after Drachen Fire, that is the only builder they are comfortable with. At this point, they have crossed off Dive Machine, Inverted Coaster, and Hyper Coaster from the B&M checklist. And I doubt they will be getting a Looper (hard to match with Wolf's terrain), a Floorless (Dominator at Kings Dominion) or, a Stand Up (last was built 11 years ago). That leaves a Flyer, a woodie from some other manufacturer, or finally a Vekoma Launcher (we will see in due time if they trust Vekoma with more than a kiddie coaster). All of those would make make happy. They mentioned on their FAQS page that Loch Ness will not be going anywhere anytime soon (though after BBW, you have to take everything they say with a grain of salt). I doubt they will go with Intamin, simply because after Drachen Fire, they seem not to trust anybody with their steel coaster except for B&M.
  20. Who knows, we already know Cedar Fair should be handing out at least 3 roller coasters this year (Kings Dominion, Carowinds, and Canada's Wonderland). I think as long as lot of people continue go to Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens, they will continue to provide new, thrilling rides. But, Who knows, you may be right.
  21. Highly unlikely. But let's be civil and wait and see what the attendance increase for KD is from 2009 vs 2010 and compare it to Busch Gardens Willimasburg's attendance change from 2009 vs 2010. I really think this could be the restart of the coaster wars! It is a great time to be a Virginia Coaster Enthusiast.
  22. From Kings Dominion's Twitter Hmm, what could that date and time possibly mean?
  23. Swamp Fox in the back seat! I felt like I was going to fall out, the PTC trains are really great.
  24. I am really surprised of all of the uproar of the closing of the Big Bad Wolf, though I guess I can understand it. Busch is looking to compete with whatever is coming to Kings Dominon in 2010, so at least Busch Gardens will have a replacement. My true opinion, is good riddance, Big Bad Wolf was quite boring, but I do feel for everyone who had a lot of good memories on that old Arrow.
