Dollywood Discussion Thread
KBrylczyk replied to crispy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Eh, nothing they haven't dealt with many times already. Knoebels floods all the time and they're perfectly fine so I don't believe Dollywood will have any problems. -
Neon is ridiculously expensive. Thankfully the faux-neon flexible tubing that's been coming out recently looks better with every upgrade. They've been implementing it here and there around Vegas and you can only tell the difference if they're side-by-side. On its own you'd have no idea. Reminds me of an accident that happened while I was on Carnival. We had a "Neon Drop" for the show Nightclub Express (used to be on 4 or 5 ships) that was a huge, solid theatre drop (backdrop that flies in and out) that was about 50' wide by 25' tall covered in various neon signs of famous nightclubs (Cotton Club, Rainbow Room, etc). During a refurb in dry dock they were replacing one of the fly cables and lost control of it. The loose cable fell from the winch height to the stage floor (about 60 feet) and sheared half of the neon off the face of the drop. $80,000 in damages. They replaced it with LED tubes you'd see in a dorm room.

You OK, guy? Because you seem irrationally angry about mechanical flippy-doo contraptions. All we're trying to say is that when a park uses a large new attraction to drive annual pass sales, then fails to open said attraction in a timely fashion, they're kind of a dick and toes the line for false advertising laws.

That's approximately $35-$40 million USD, for anyone curious. I'm wondering if this is a new type of coaster with that kind of investment. -

A beemer hyper is NOT an Intamin hyper, bud. You're gonna be very disappointed if you're expecting Candymonium to be anything like Skyrush. -
New ride concepts by Mack Rides

I caught this on Facebook a couple days ago. I'm loving the Power Loop the most. I've been on Pulsar and it was the sleeper hit of the park. Adding a loop to the design is just icing on the cake! The rocking boat design is very cool, as well, but I feel like it won't be a huge seller, at least until they build one at Europa to show it off. -
Let me break down this concert calendar as a showbiz professional who's worked for 7 of the acts on that list - The Roots - Super talented and really nice, I'd recommend them. Not a surprise since they're Fallon's house act these days, but still a huge name to play a theme park. Karol G - Pass. Pass by a country mile. Bell Biv DeVoe - Holy crap, they're still playing shows together?! 90s hip hop. If you like the sound, you'll like the show. Recommended. +Live+ - Honestly I had to double check this was Live and not some other band because I've never seen them listed with the plus signs. It isn't some other band, it's friggin Live, and they're incredible. Not only do they have a bunch of huge rock hits, they're all great people who love their craft. This is easily (one of) the highest recommendations for this year's Mardis Gras. Kool & The Gang - You know the music. Highly recommended. TLC - Well, just TC these days since Left Eye passed away years ago. They're better than Salt-N-Pepa, so there's that. REO Speedwagon - Undoubtedly THE show to see this year. REO Speedwagon blew me through the goddamned roof a few years ago. Yeah, they're old, but DAMN these guys command the stage! Do not miss this one if you're a passholder. Also, they're legitimately great, friendly people who know they're famous because of their fans. Just wait until they begin Roll With The Changes. That song is when your brain clicks and you realize you're watching rock gods doing their thing. I mean look at this, just look at it - [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] Good sweet lawd baby jesus that's a show!!! Dustin Lynch - Who's this guy? :::quick google::: Country artist? Pass. Luis Fonsi - Imagine, if you will, Despacito on repeat for 90 minutes. The All-American Rejects - I'm not a fan of their sound, but they put on a solid show and they're super-nice guys. Diana Ross - She's a living legend. Go! Chris Young - Country. Pass. Earth, Wind, And Fire - I mean, all of the original members are long dead. This is like going to see The Temptations these days. They're really a cover band. Marshmello - Ugh. It's just a DJ doing boring DJ crap. He's also a giant twat-waffle. He's on my blacklist here in town, meaning if I get a call to work his gig I refuse it on principle. Why Don't We - Had to google these guys, too. Apparently they still make boy bands these days? Pass. Gavin DeGraw - I'm a simple man. When your breakthrough hit single (I Don't Wanna Be) is a barely-concealed copy of Stone Temple Pilots' "Vasoline" and you won't admit to it, you go to the bottom of the barrel in my book. Screw this guy.

^ Seriously, though, I know Six Flags handles their money worse than a crackhead looking for blow, but why wouldn't they even attempt to pool some cash for new LSMs from Intamin? Everywhere I've worked we have our maintenance budget, then within that budget is a smaller budget for the essentials like drill bits, saw blades, measuring tape, etc. The things we would be unable to operate without always took priority.

^ Have they confirmed Catastrophe Canyon is staying? I'd expect it to be gutted of everything except the rock-work and given a beefy refurbishment. -
Imagine if Waco was actually famous for Dr. Pepper instead of a cult massacre. It'd be a tourist trap. News flash - When you advertise "new for 2019" rides and the star attraction doesn't open until CHRISTMAS, the public trust will falter. These dingalings screwed themselves. Nobody trusts Six Flags on two major issues - 1 - Guest service / experience. Everyone knows "having a Six Flags day!" means "yay rides but F!$# everything else about this place!" 2 - Ride operations. Not only does everyone know that ride crews at Six Flags are, aside from the rare exception, slow and terrible, but everyone also knows that you're not guaranteed to see every ride operational on a day-to-day basis. AND NOW everyone knows that Six Flags can't be bothered to install their new attractions in a timely fashion! I remember growing up and seeing "New for Six Flags Great Adventure in (insert 1986-1999 here)!" meant that the new ride, show, or attraction would most likely be open on opening day, if not then certainly by Spring Break. Now you're lucky if it's ready by June or July. I've not bought a Six Flags season pass in a few years now and I honestly don't see a point in the future where I will. Hell, I've not attended a Six Flags park since 2018. There's no draw to get me to purchase a ticket when I know that it's a mixed bag. It's a gamble to attend their parks and I'm not a gambler.
