  1. The virus is actually afraid of Carnival ships, so they're the safest place on earth!
  2. Meanwhile I'm sitting here in Vegas, watching all hell break loose, and we've closed some buffets. My major concern isn't the virus but my goddamn livelihood. Everything live entertainment is getting cancelled across the board, it seems, aside from resident shows here in Vegas. Unfortunately I've not worked on a resident show here in a while now. My income has been the arena and convention center shows. My wife is a manager for the Zappo's Theatre at Planet Hollywood and while they've not cancelled anything show-centric as of this writing they're stuck dealing with fallout from vacation cancellations, flight changes, professional and college sports, as she works in ticketing and all of those events are resort-wide. Long story short, buckle up, kids. This isn't gonna be fun.
  3. ^ So it's that girl's fault! If she just sat down on that compartment door there'd be no leak. Sheesh, people!
  4. ^ We'll never be friends. Euro-Mir is my jam.
  5. Wow that looks like fun. It's a damn shame this park is so horrible at every single thing it does because there are a select few truly unique rides I'd love to check out. From everything I've heard about this place, though, it sounds like I'd rather swallow a shotgun.
  6. Maybe this has been answered, but do we know if this version will be a copy of Paris or will it be a new (read: better) design? Among the trackless attractions Disney has done, Ratatoullie is easily the weakest and least inspired use of the tech. It's still fun, but I feel that after RotR and Runaway Railway opened across the street this will not be as well received.
  7. Yep, having second thoughts about heading down tonight. RotR still hasn't opened today. I'd hate to spend the money and get shafted.
  8. Quick question about the boarding group system - With the drop in attendance we were thinking of making a last minute trip this Sunday and Monday (two days from now) to take advantage before the spring break and summer crowds make the place a wreck. If by some miracle Rise Of The Resistance plows through the groups and we get to ride, are we able to then join another boarding group if they're still available?
  9. ^ Oh there are definitely going to be mechanical or magnetic brakes, that's not even a question. That wedge won't take much force to create an impressive wave. Edit - looking at it again and knowing the system is called Big WaveZ (as in plural) I'm gonna say this is a Frog Hopper system, only bigger, with the water element added. Imagine the car bobbing in the water creating a few smaller waves, then jumping high and making a huge wave, e.t.c.
  10. It looks like a drop tower into a pool. That wedge below the seating would create a huge wave that sprays out towards whoever is watching the ride. There's a good chance riders will get soaked, as well.
  11. Sounds like they're copying Kalahari, except they're forgetting one key element. Kalahari prices are high to keep away non-resort-guests. The waterpark is (I believe) included with a night's stay, or at least comes at a steeeeeeeeeep discount. This keeps the guest experience at a high, keeps demand relatively constant, and enhances their business model. American Dream is just pricing out their only clientele. Dumbasses.
  12. Steel Dragon 2000 with the B&M trains. Hated it. I rode in the middle of the train because my fatty-fat-fat thighs were too thick for the front. Somehow Hanno and Robb managed to staple me in and off we go. The lift hill was great but everything after that was like being in a 9.6 earthquake. It was honestly one of the most painful experiences I've ever had on a coaster, and please note I grew up next to SFGAdv and rode Viper like the dickens. To my surprise, though, everyone else on the trip loved the hell out of the ride. They all said it was smooth with tons of airtime. I had the polar opposite experience. I'm open to the possibility I just got a really bad seat and I would ride it again if the opportunity presented itself, though.
  13. I'm curious if this is just a deeply-themed mirror maze or if it will be a larger experience kinda like Ghost Train. I hope it turns out awesome, either way. Black Mirror is great but I'm struggling to see how they can sell their IP as a theme park attraction.
  14. Yes, actually, it is. NJ has some of the strictest ride regulations in the country. On the contrary, PA, right next door, has some of the loosest.
  15. This is like step 7 of 10 on the checklist to become Fuji-Q.
  16. Or there's billions, possibly trillions, of lines of code all working and interacting simultaneously with video effects, practical effects, sound effects, animatronics, etc, and sometimes they get confused and force a breakdown. That's probably more likely. Disney is pushing the processors running this beast to the known limit. There's bound to be hiccups. You can't push the envelope without screwing a few things up along the way.
  17. Knoebels...I know you read these. Superstition Mountain. You know what to do.
  18. So, just spitballin' here...how much of a royal pain in my ass would it be to hunt for potential investors and try to find a way to reopen the park under new management? Again, just spitballing. I'm a live entertainment professional, not qualified to run an entire park. I'd certainly entertain the idea, though. Ba dum tiss.
  19. Beware, there's rumors of mandatory fluffy bunnies incoming for all major rides, Universal style. Say it with me now, in unison, "Booooooooo, hisssssssssss."
  20. ^ https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt2948356/?ref_=bo_se_r_1 $31.9 million in France. Comparatively, Frozen 1 made $46.9 (https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt2294629/?ref_=bo_se_r_1). The Zootopia land that's confirmed will be going into Shanghai. Zootopia made $236.1 million in China at large. Comparatively, Frozen 1 made only $48.2 million. There's a better chance of Arendelle showing up in Paris than Zootopia if we're going by general box office interest in the IPs.
  21. Came across this aerial photo of the shut down park today on Reddit -
