Freefall, which has nothing to do with drop towers (in case anyone was wondering). A brand new Boeing 767 is in the process of a pleasant and uneventful flight when it runs out of fuel. This is a bad thing. I was thinking of reading it to help me with a school project, which was basically supposed to be about technology-related screwups. I couldn't read that fast, though, and used Web sites instead, because I am lazy or something. Anyway, this particular screw-up involves botched translations between Metric and Standard measurements, not an uncommon problem. I haven't gotten to the part where they actually know they're out of fuel. I stopped at the part where an ominous alarm sounds and the pilot says "What the ----!" or something similar with the 'f' word in it. It's quite interesting so far. It's decently well-written, although the author's writing style kind of suggests he is trying really hard to be a good writer. (I'm thinking along the lines of, "If you were really good, you wouldn't have to 'try'", that sort of thing.) Oh, I forgot, it's a true story. If it weren't it wouldn't be half as interesting. (Why would an important plane ever run out of fuel? Truth is stranger than fiction.)

I did not particularly enjoy the Puyallup Fair. Out of all the fairs and parks I've visited, it was by far the most ridiculously annoying I've ever experienced. Several midway employees had attitude problems and acted like control freaks...it was ridiculous. Also, the guests would not listen and did follow loudly repeated and very obvious, simple instructions. The operations were disorganized and unclear, and not everybody was polite if for some 100% understandable reason you didn't do what they wanted you to. I was extremely bothered by several midway employees, and still am. They were worse than the guests, who were just acting dumb. One moment I'll think I was just "calibrated wrong" today (if that's even what calibrate means, lol), and I was just being a hypersensitive idiot. The next moment, I'll feel justified, since no other park (or even fair) has come even remotely close to getting more than just ever so slightly on my nerves. More specifically, none has ever actually made me angry! I don't even hate Fun Forest (I like it), and I thought that place was on the extreme edges of not-well-run. Too bad I was wrong about that! (P.S. Hope nobody saw me there. I just could not stop loudly ranting and talking nonsense all day...and no, that's not what made people get control freaky on me, as it wasn't around those people.)

The Puyallup Fair is overrated. And yes, I have compared it to other fairs, including large ones, not just parks. All of the parks I have been to seem "properly rated" to me.

I have finally been on a roller coaster officially named "Roller Coaster". --- Random mistakes I realize I have made: --Calling Banana Split (Gilroy Gardens) "Banana Boat" --Calling all GIBs "Deja Vus" instead of "GIBs" (the true generic name...err, abbreviation) --Calling SDC Hurricanes "Windstorms" --- The end.

My absolute favorite is Subway. I get a Spicy Italian, preferably on Italian Herbs & Cheese, with cheese, olives, oil & vinegar. It's perfect! At every other restaurant I just order what I like and ignore the rest. I would guess that my least favorite is McDonald's, but I still like them. At every place I am willing to get a cheeseburger or bacon cheeseburger, but these are my stand-out favorites at each place: McDonald's: Egg McMuffin, Pancake Breakfast, chicken nuggets w/BBQ sauce, McFlurry Burger King: Hershey Sundae Pie or Cookie Dough Pie Dairy Queen: Cookie Dough Blizzard or another Blizzard Wendy's: plain chocolate Frosty Burgerville: Chocolate shake or seasonal shake, strawberry shortcake Jack in the Box: Strawberry banana smoothie, Oreo shake, Sourdough Jack Carl's Junior: Chicken Stars for light meals, Western Bacon Cheeseburger and shake the rest of the time!

Roll Call for B-list musicians
cal1br3tto replied to Bolliger&Mabillard's topic in Random, Random, Random
Great idea. I love way too many bands that seem to be unheard of, but deserve as much recognition as their more successful brethren. AED of Uppereastside: Deep rap/hip-hop lyrics. Ballydowse: Amazing variety of instruments and cultures with roots in punk rock. Their songs are stunning in both sound and message. Crashdog: One of the most fervent and meaningful political punk bands I have ever encountered. Forerunner of Ballydowse, btw. The Dingees: Divine mixture of reggae, ska, dub, punk, and who-knows-what-else. Full of both fun and meaning. Unique, but slightly reminiscent of The Clash, and the genre mixing is not unlike what Sublime did. Every Mans Hero: Powerful screaming/shouting hardcore punk. FurtherMore: Quirky, creative hip-hop. GRITS: Christian rap/hip-hop with fun songs and deep lyrics. The Havoc: By far my all-time favorite street punk band. Intense! Intro5pect: Raging electro-punk! What could be better? Related to Leftover Crack, btw. Jimmy Cliff: Good classic reggae KJ-52: His first album, 7th Avenue, contains some amazing hip-hop. likeDavid: Christian...post-hardcore? "Who Are You Spitting At" is epically intense. Mars ILL: Absolutely wonderful creative hip-hop. New Riders of the Purple sage: Very nice 60s country-rock. One-21: Great punk/hardcore punk. Pink Martini: Beautiful. QuiVah: Hip-hop Richard Hell & The Voidoids: Lovely early punk. Spudgun: Epically fun old-school style (but not old) punk rock. Television: Beautiful and deep post-punk. Upside Down Room: Fun punk-o-billy. The Velvet Underground: I'm currently obsessed with them. War Rocket Ajax: More fun punk-o-billy. X: Nice old punk band Yellowman: Highly enjoyable dancehall reggae. "Everybody jump around, reggae on the move!" ZAO: Some of their songs are epic. You can find out more by lurking my last.fm page, or just searching their main site. -
What's your favorite Flat ride?
cal1br3tto replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oh no, I have a new favorite. Magnum, owned by Butler Amusements. I believe it's a Mondial Shake. Anyway, it's the craziest rocky-flippy ride I've ever been on! It whirls, rocks impressively, and inverts plenty of times. Just when you think it's slowing down, it starts flipping again! Each "somewhat Scrambler-esque" ride I've been on is better than the last--first I enjoyed Orbiter, then I was thrilled by Viper, and now I'm totally floored by Magnum! The scariest and most intense flat ride I've experienced is definitely Evolution. It has the craziest hangtime ever, with the height making it that much worse--indeed, much worse. It goes around way too many times and it's way too slow when you wish it would just hurry up and get back to ground level! I don't ever want to go on that ride again, although realistically, I might. -
My current favorite single moment is the stand-up air during the 2nd and largest drop on Olympic Bobsled. It's an SDC coaster owned by Butler Amusements; I rode it at the California State Fair on Sunday. Too bad it's too simplistic to be more than mildly interesting otherwise. Another amazing single moment is the stand-up (or close to it) air on one of the drops on Coaster Thrill Ride. Not the first or the largest, but a later one into a headchopper. Buzz bars that can literally only lock into one position are a dream come true! For best overall airtime, my vote still goes to Giant Dipper (SCBB) and Timber Terror.

What is your next park?
cal1br3tto replied to onewheeled999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm looking forward to going Whorin' Over California. Saturday Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Sunday Pixieland Oakland Zoo Funtown Funderland California State Fair Monday Traintown Edit: 100% success! No whorin' at SFDK, though. -
Since we're still talking about the best West Coast wooden coasters... I'll put in another vote for SCBB Giant Dipper. It couldn't (realistically) be better. I put Roar at a solid 8/10, as it doesn't have enough airtime for my taste. ^I didn't "enjoy" Grizzly, but I too was surprised by how "good" it was...not actually good, mind you, but only "average bad", not "extremely bad" as it seems to be in many people's minds.

If you owned your own theme park
cal1br3tto replied to martinb's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's too challenging to try to be "realistic". I apologize. Coasters At least two world-class wooden coasters Giant Inverted Boomerang Spinning Wild Mouse Heavily themed dark coaster Hypercoaster Invert or floorless with 5+ inversions (for inversion whores!) Kiddie coaster with airtime! (Miler???) Ghetto portable coaster (Windstorm???), because they're cute. Flats Tallest A.R.M./Larson drop tower Rock-O-Plane KMG Afterburner running a long, intense program Gravitron (or Starship 2000/3000) Spider Good pirate ship ("good" as in massive airtime!) Oscillating Chance Yo-Yo Heavily themed log flume with intense splashdown Crazy inverting ride (Inverter maybe? Or something better.) Dark Rides Shooting dark ride! Any theme as long as it isn't dumb. Anything really creepy! Children's/Family Rides Ring Carousel (There need to be more of these!) Cute flying elephants -
Top / Best Amusement Park (s)
cal1br3tto replied to bodombeast's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Disneyland (5/5) 2. Silverwood (5/5) 3. Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (5/5) 4. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (4/5) 5. Enchanted Forest (4/5) 6. Disney's California Adventure (3.75/5) 7. Gilroy Gardens (3.75/5) 8. Oaks Amusement Park (3.5/5) 9. Fun Forest (can't rate fairly!) 10. California's Great America (3/5) In the end, I noticed my rankings are a combination of "Where did I have the best experience?" (Disneyland comes to mind) combined with "Where am I most anxious to visit again?" (with better thrill parks getting the edge). I also think my CoasterFanatics rankings (based on ride ratings only) are interesting, although my personal list above reflects my taste a lot better! It's here, by the way: http://www.coasterfanatics.com/sec_members/member_stats.asp?id=106874 -
Favorite Water Ride
cal1br3tto replied to SFMM rocks my socks's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've only been on 10. I'll definitely have the lamest list out there. I find that nearly every water ride has something nice about it that makes it memorable. It's hard to compare and rank them. 1. Splash Mountain--Disneyland 2. Monsoon Falls--SFDK--I love the drop! It surprises me every time, and the splashdown is the scariest and most intense I've experienced. 3. Journey to Atlantis--SWSD--I had an epic ride on it, although in retrospect, it's probably only a 6/10 coaster compared to the others I've ridden. But still, it's a coaster, and I like coasters. 4. Logger's Revenge--SCBB--I love the view. 5. Loggers Run--CGA--For some reason I love the high sides during a section of the high part. The turntable loading area is also kind of fun, as a novelty. 6. Big Timber Log Ride--Enchanted Forest--It's actually pretty long, slow, and boring, but it's in a nice setting among trees, and it's a coaster credit (thank goodness)! (Yes, I completely and unequivocally count it.) Both the roller coaster dip and the main drop are decent. 7. Wild River--Fun Forest--It's incredibly ghetto, which I like. Also, once I got a massive pop of airtime at the very end. That was fun. This ride is just not bad at all. 8. Roaring Creek Log Flume--Silverwood--The most underwhelming log flume ever??? I like the scenery during the beginning part, though, and it seems pretty fast during that section. 9. Shipwreck Rapids--SWSD--The piano is creepy. That's cool. 10.Lumberjack Falls--Wild Waves--Okay, this one is just boring. -
^My post also involves division! Coaster-related, but still random: My average number of laps per coaster is 3.23809524. It will be interesting to see how this changes over time.

"I haven't figured out what I like yet..." I am either straight or bisexual, and I wouldn't be surprised if I am straight. I won't bore you with the complexities, about which I could go on for pages.
-
If we're also counting coasters that you've simply seen (as opposed to actually visiting the park), then I have a couple more: The Ripper--Thrill-Ville USA Little Ripper--same I think I used to consider the park too ghetto to visit...but I would gladly go now! Especially because they had a Spider and a Rock-o-Plane! I hope the coasters and rides actually get resurrected at some point, rather than scrapped (which I fear may end up being the case).

Again! I swear I don't do this on purpose.

I got an evac credit today! | V It wasn't a ride called Evac, it was an evac from Commuter Rail: The Ride (aka MAX). And yes, it was fun, but I have no idea why I thought it was worth posting about! (Yes, I know you weren't being serious!)
