Speaking of "meh" rides, am I the only person who puts Batman in that category? Unlike many of you, I've only ridden it once, so I'm admittedly coming from a somewhat different perspective. But for me, Batman was the major coaster/multi-looper/etc. that didn't really stand out as memorable. I put Riddler's, Scream!, Deja Vu, and Viper ahead of it (among others, of course). Of course one reason is that it's a more familiar ride type to me than the other coasters there, which I guess makes it easier to judge harshly than something more unusual.

Agreed. Unfortunately, some people criticize coasters for reasons that are arguably misguided. However, many other people criticize coasters for perfectly legitimate reasons, or simple don't care for a coaster. It really bothers me when people assume they know why someone criticized a coaster, and insist that it's a "wrong" viewpoint. I'd like to feel comfortable saying I don't like a coaster without going into every last detail defending why I feel that way and why I think it's legitimate (I might do so anyway, though, for the sake of detail).

Would you apply to this college or send your kids here??
cal1br3tto replied to AWill961's topic in Random, Random, Random
Okay, this is really awkward...I go to PCC. I always find it just slightly entertaining when other colleges have the same abbreviation as mine or other ones in my state...I guess it's just inevitable, though. I agree with everyone else. I really am curious about 1) Who wants to go here and why; 2) What they end up thinking about the school; 3) How they turn out; 4) How they feel about religion afterwards. (After quite some time, I have finally managed to shake off the effects of my religious school education, which was nothing like this--the strictest rules seemed to be about uniforms, which now doesn't seem bad at all!) -
^Well now I am starting to actually feel "good"...We got ours sometime near the switchover when we'd otherwise need a converter box. January 09? I guess that was around when they were becoming popular, so not notable, but my family is known for being very late for most non-computer-related technology. Very early for some stuff, though--I think it depends on who wants it! In case it doesn't become obvious at some point today...3 cups of coffee is making me feel very typeative.

I doubt it; I think it's just marketing. If they referred to it as steel, I don't think they could call it a record-breaker. It would still be the first to use the new technology, but that's a given. Besides, it's still more 'wooden' than coasters that contain no wood! They're just playing off of that.

^^I don't do that (although I have at least once), but is it odd that I put mustard (and nothing else) on one of my rolls at WCB? I felt a little weird. I have eaten packets of butter at least once. Needless to say, I got made fun of for it! I also used to eat packets of sugar (the sugar inside, that is). Once I ate like 30 packets because I thought a "sugar high" was actually a meaningful altered mental state. I now find pure white sugar to be disgusting (but not because of that, strangely).

If I were to rant (don't feel like it right now), I would rant about this. No one can convince me that spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and other writing skills are unimportant. Although I try to keep my mouth shut (fingers still?) in order to avoid backseat moderating or going off-topic, this isn't the first time I've mentioned this, and I'm guessing it won't be the last. (Note: I realize I may commit minor/obscure errors that no one cares about!)

I'm curious about how many "well-traveled" enthusiasts are out there who rate SFMM Goliath highly. Personally, I liked it a lot, but it's my first and only hyper. Basically I'm wondering whether my high rating (9/10) is a personal opinion quirk where I may just permanently like certain things about it more than most other people do, or if I just need to experience the higher rated hypers and would subsequently rate it much lower than I currently do. Based on my limited experience, what I like best about it is the airtime, the death helix, and the low-speed turn, but I take it that it's not actually considered an "airtime" coaster and many others actually have a lot more airtime. Other than that I just like the "hyper-ness" (height, speed) that I assume any hyper would provide.

How in the world was I able to use my April bus pass yesterday? I clearly showed it to both drivers, and they both acknowledged it (non-verbally). Being dumb saved me 4 dollars!

Going to parks alone?
cal1br3tto replied to alilstronger's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have no problem spending time at parks alone, and have done so many times. I'm just glad it's so common! It seems like I'm always the weird one who decides to go to some place or event by myself instead of making it into a social outing. Finally I have an interest where solo tripping is actually understood and accepted! I don't talk to people, but I'm not against it either. I'm just not the type to do so automatically. When I feel weird because everyone else in the park is with somebody else (and is infinitely better dressed), I just remember that I'm there for a slightly different reason. I'm there for the CREDITS! lol I know some people say that extreme credit whoring is only fun with friends, and not worthwhile to do alone. I disagree! Yeah, it is strange and mildly embarrassing, but I value every coaster I encounter, no matter how boring. It's just one more experience to look back on. I can say though that, as with anything, visiting parks and riding with others is always inherently more fun. Those lame coasters and rides I would usually ride silently just become so funny! -
I always think to myself, "Why? Why did it have to be me?" (I was actually quite scared to ride X2 the first time.) About the roughness, there is absolutely no question that the outside seats are rougher. Both the inside and outside seats provided the same "kinds" of roughness for me, but the outside seat was much more pain-inducing. Near the end of the ride there is a major headbang that gave me a headache, and I heard other people mentioning it as well. X2 was actually by far the roughest ride of the day for me, and I don't ride "aggressively"; I often don't bother seeking out the most gentle seats, either. So I was certainly at risk for being victimized by the other coasters, but it really didn't happen to a meaningful extent.

No. So, let's settle this once and for all (or at least for now): Have I mentioned how awesome donkeys are?
-
^^I never rode X, but I can say the onboard audio on X2 does a lot for me. SF definitely made the right choice with that, and it's perfectly executed with the song/saying choices and timing. It's not that I think it's making up for any shortcoming, because I really enjoyed the ride as a whole. It just helps "complete" the experience for me. It gives me something extra to enjoy during the ride and look back on fondly afterwards. I find the music exciting, yet slightly relaxing at the same time (probably because it's a distraction).

Best Invert - Vote for your favorite!
cal1br3tto replied to Scott's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I haven't yet been on any full circuit inverts that have really amazed me, so my list will seem very pathetic. 1. Aftershock 2. Flight Deck (CGA) 3. Deja Vu (SFMM) 4. Silver Bullet 5. V2: Vertical Velocity 6. Invertigo 7. Batman (SFMM) 8. Kong Note that Flight Deck gains a lot of points simply for theming and atmosphere, although Silver Bullet has a pleasant atmosphere as well. Also, I might have to quit ranking at some point. It's been pretty challenging for a while and only getting worse! -
The Matterhorn: Tomorrowland side Mulholland Madness Xcelerator Ninja (SFMM) I have successfully acquired all the credits I initially missed in 2009. Now I only need some from 2008 and 2010. Also, in 2010 I have only missed coasters that were actually closed, now that I am a dedicated credit collector. At the Disney parks I kind of had a similar idea in my head, but not quite strongly enough to actually commit to riding all the coasters.

LOL! I don't think it's really a "fear" (more of a "horror"), but I always cringe and recoil at the site of Swiss cheese. I have to examine all the holes (preferably against a high-contrast background), then flip the slice over and examine them from the other side. I don't feel comfortable until the cheese is safely inside my sandwich or mouth. I think the holes subconsciously remind me of wounds. As a child, I was probably disturbed by some kind of comparable image. I also can't stand those frogs that give birth out of holes in their back!

Best And Worst Coaster In California
cal1br3tto replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Pony Express is definitely "cute". Even as an adult, I like the trains. "If all else fails, at least I'm cute!" I don't want to over-criticize since it may well be serving its purpose well for the park, but there are definitely many coasters that size and smaller that are much more intense. Jaguar! ranks low on my list, as well. -
My last 2009 credit was a Schwarzkopf. My first 2010 credit was a Schwarzkopf.

Best And Worst Coaster In California
cal1br3tto replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Every kiddie coaster I have ever been on has been better than Pony Express. (Well, with some pretty obvious exceptions like Wacky Worms, Orient Expresses, and most ovals.) ^"...short, boring and forceless" is exactly how I would describe it as well. -

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
cal1br3tto replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
X2 on Monday. My day was a very tasty X2 sandwich. More precisely, it was an X2-Viper-Tatsu-everything else-Tatsu-Viper-X2 sandwich.
