School textbook roller coaster references
Gnome replied to stormrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Our school's Algebra II book has Montezooma's revenge on the cover (from when it was still yellow) I also remember a science book I had in the 8th grade had a whole article on the Wild Thing at Valley Fair, and it's designer. -
^ at least until they get that B&M inverted coaster in 2009....

Six Flags 2007 Q1 Conference Call
Gnome replied to kraxleRIDAH's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love where Six Flags is headed. I think Shapiro is starting to get it. And the incorporation of well known brands of food? Loving it! It seems to me that cheap independent brands are always crappier anyways. I'm going to find Shapiro on myspace and tell him how much I love him. I'm going to have his baby, or be his baby's daddy. I don't know, we'd probably need that operation like in that one Arnold Shwarzennegger movie (jr?) in order for something like that to happen. But I'll get it to happen. And then I'll be intitled to some of his money. -
Avid is the standard in the industry, and Final Cut Pro (Mac) is also a standard. But that would be way to pricey as well as difficult to learn. When it comes down to it, best is subjective. What you want is an editing software that works for you and allows you to do what it is that you want. If you aren't on a budget, I would look into Sony Vegas, Adobe Premier Pro, or Avid Liquid If you are on a budget, Adobe offers a software package called Adobe Premier Elements. It is simply the best software out there for its price range. I've had it since v1 (and I've never felt the need to upgrade, mostly because if I do, I'll probably upgrade to pro level software) anyways it's worked just fine. They also offer an Elements package (Both Premier and Photoshop) for about $30 more then a stand alone of either software (Both run about $100 seperately, though photoshop may be cheaper, but none the less you save a lot of money buying the combo package). SO I definatley reccommend it.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
Gnome replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's a very paradoxical statement. Cedar Fair is here to entertain us as that is the very nature of the business. But as with any business, certain factors have to be taken into consideration, like which capital improvement would be best for the park? If it was all "business" comes first, then CP could have easily plopped in a generic B&M and still bring in the crowds, but obviously they choose not to. Hopefully their choice in doing such will benefit them in the end. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I'm trying to think how a non-inverting transitional change would be any different from what they currently have. I'm pretty sure that stress on the wheels would come out to be about the same. -

I will only be slightly upset if they remove that heartline roll like there have been talks about doing. I guess I will cross my fingers and pray for the best, but expect the worst so then there's no surprises. The delay doesn't affect me though. I'm not going to CP this year. Tee hee, Im cooler then the rest of you for doing so. -
Revenge Of The Mummy at USO
Gnome replied to EpcotLova's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Both mummy's have air time. I counted 3 instances on both. USH's has 3 spots of good solid float air, while USF has 2 instances of very abrupt violent air time and one float hill. -
Flamingo Land Discussion Thread

since 2005, I've been hearing they were looking into GCI, GG, and Vekoma for wooden coasters for 2008. I think they were leaning towards vekoma though do to thier past history with them. It's to bad that's not wood for the coaster though. Maybe it will spring up sometime soon, though? -
Finding Nemo at Disneyland
Gnome replied to Xtreme-me's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's because of the low capacity that the Subs have. If the subs got the lines that Monsters Inc got when that was open for AP, chances are lines would end up running around 3 hours. -
Only because Disneyland's castle was the first.

Revenge of the Mummy
Gnome replied to eskater132's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I actually found USF's to have the better dark ride portion while both are pretty much on par with each other for the coaster part. Though all in all, USH's does feel really incomplete which is why I like Florida's better. -

Epcot Promotional Video featuring TPR's Soren!
Gnome replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
magical moments is code name for sex. How kinky that one of TPR's own is futured in a documentary about sex at the Disney parks. Anywho, that guy and his dinosaur.... Funny. I think he needs some serious looking into, though. -
^ That's a tad bit of an over statement, imo. I would also say that Knott's was probably at it's best the year they opened ghost rider, maybe one or two years after. As for disfunct parks, I couldn't really care about any of them. As for coasters, I wish that the Rye Aeroplane was still around.

Didn't look that great to begin with.

From what I've gathered, normally hight limits are set up around manufacturers specifications, and not the forces involved, ect. Tiz a shame with the hight increase. I guess when I have children, I'll just be taking them to Six Flags and Disney until they're tall enough for the rides at a Cedar Fair park. (Hopefully by that time though, CF won't be so uptight, but usually things only get worse until some one new steps in and "saves" the company, but for as long as CF doesn't need any saving, it will only get worse. )

I believe this is video of them pulling the limbs of the child out of the crocodile. Viewer discretion strongly advised. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPVKPZgKt9s -edit- I just looked at the date of the video and it's from April 7th, so I guess I was wrong. Though I'm sure the Chinese Crocidile had a similar fate.
