I opted for early graduation in January and I've been going to the local community college to take some classes and babysitting in my spare time. My graduation is in about a month, and I'm really hoping to attend, but my parents didn't buy me my cap and gown this year ...

Judging by the article, the park seems to be a Stratosphere-style park with rides at the top of a large tower but will also have rides around the base as well. I’m very interested in what the “swiveling, snaking” ride that sends riders “500 feet in the air”. It seems like (everybody else mentioned) an X-Car, but I can really see a Eurofighter or an El Loco as well. It seems a bit ambitious, and I wish them the best of luck trying to get the off the ground...

^ Thank you for the comment. I have a few pages worth of drawings posted here. If you wish to see them, click the link in my sig. Now back on track… The layout for the coaster looks amazing, but I think you should add a bit more theming around the ride. Maybe allow the ride to interact with some golden yellow colored buildings and structures by placing them on and around the coaster to hide the layout and to add to the sense of mystery. For a ride themed to a lost fictional civilization it seems kinda open to me. But again, great work on the coaster. I would love to see the future lands added to the park. -
IOA IS a thrill-based park so they build massive coasters are built to draw crowds to that area. Disney is more of a family park, but it follows a similar formula by building very large structures surrounding a smaller ride as well as revealing certain high-thrill points in the ride like a big drop or high speed area. The theming is there to add to the atmosphere and contribute to the "magic" of the area. An extremely well-themed park does have the power to send you into the Old West or Jurassic Park. This is judging solely on pictures, but IOA seems to have a similar effect by putting you right in the middle of a Marvel comic or a Dr. Seuss book. Sure it isn't something realistic like a rain forest or outer space, but IOA still tries to engulf the visitor in a sort of fantasy that is different from a traditional theme park. There are plenty of parks that have massive coasters, but are extremely well-themed like Phantasialand, Europa Park, and Happy Valley, but I wouldn't compare these parks to something like Six Flags.

^^ I guess I don't really have much experience with BGW parking, since I've only used the parking about four or five times in my entire lifetime... Dan - Don't take my advice about the parking.

^ Its fun to have debates like this. Kinda like the discussion about adding the heartline roll to HRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR's lift hill. Now personally I haven't been to IOA either so I don't have an opinion on the matter, but I HAVE been to a Universal park and I know firsthand that Universal is second only to Disney in terms of theming. This is judging solely on pictures I've seen... The park looks very heavily themed. So what if the coasters are out in the open? They suit the overall theme of the island itself (Hulk in Superhero Island and Dragons in Lost Continent). The queue creates a story behind the ride. The coasters don't try to blend in possibly because Universal wants them to stand out to draw people to the area. Disney does the same by creating large structures surrounding the ride (Space, Everest, TOT), but they want to build a sense of mystery surrounding the ride so they hide it in a building or they only reveal certain parts. Look at MK, you've got a log flume, teacups, mine train coaster, regular steel coaster, carousel, a bunch of dark rides, a boat ride, and a train... And the themed lands don't exactly fit together either (Old West? Jungle? Fairy Tales? the Future?). IOA isn't a theme specific park like DAK or USH. Its more of a MK-style park in which it utilizes multiple overall themes. The thing is, I wouldn't compare Universal to SF because it's like comparing apples to oranges. One is a massive destination park with a heavy theming, while the other is a chain of regional parks with zero to average theming (although they've gotten better at theming in recent years). We should get back on track... Potter looks great!

^ I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet. Alright judging by what you've stated so far... 1. The person could be using some extremely cheap mail. 2. Something's wrong with the mail delivery system. 3. Something's wrong with the package itself (maybe not enough postage or something like that) 4. The person might've ripped you off (I'm kinda doubting this though). 5. The mail has to travel an extremely long distance. 6. The other person may not have that much experience with mailing things internationally (which I assume they are not from Italy) so maybe they made a mistake when sending the package. Somewhat connects to number 3. You might want to contact the other person to see if they can compensate for the trade. -
^ Really? Every time my family's gone there, we were able to park in the England lot without much trouble. Even without paying for preferred parking or a Platinum Pass, although recently I never really needed to park there because I could just walk or ride my bike to the park.

^ So both SF and BGW would be a cross between an amusement park and a theme park? And because Disney also has some carny style rides (Space Mountain/Dumbo) they would be a cross b/w an amusement park and a theme park as well... IMO an amusement park focuses more on rides... I classify CF and SF on top of parks like Hershey and IB as amusement parks because they tend to focus more on their ride selection than a story to suit the ride. Some of their rides may have a theme, but normally people will go to those parks to focus on the ride aspect over the story aspect. A theme park tries to tie some sort of story aspect with their rides or build the ride to blend in with a specific area within the park. Herschend, Busch, Disney, and Universal lie in this category. People go to these parks primarily for the rides, but they also go to be immersed in the atmosphere as well. I doubt a random GP member will go to Disney hoping to look for specific details, but those details are placed there to add to the atmosphere of the park. Here's an example... If a regular amusement park decided to build a Giant Frisbee, they would just install the frisbee, maybe plant some shrubs around it to make it look nicer, and add a roof over the line. A theme park would take the frisbee one step further, maybe by painting the structure a certain way to make it look like an ancient torture device or a creature of some sort. The park then builds the ride in a certain part of the park to allow the ride to "fit in" with the surrounding area. Maybe place it in a certain area to hide it away from the public's eye. Add some special theming elements like fire and rock formations to increase the atmosphere and heighten the thrill. And then the park adds a back story to the ride or the area around the ride. I haven't been to IOA before, but I DO know that Universal themes its rides exceptionally well. On top of that, SF is more of an amusement park, but their recent attempts at theming are almost Busch quality, if its not really there yet.

^ I've always wondered that myself. Why does Revolution get all the credit for having the world's first successful vertical loop when Corkscrew opened the exact same year and also had a vertical loop? Maybe its something technical like Revolution opened a few days/weeks before Corkscrew opened. I guess CP and MM were competing for recognition long before the 90s-00s. -

^ Yes but you're still among some of the better RCT2 designers on TPR. The park has excellent scenery and from what I've seen so far, the park is absolutely incredible... ... and here is an interesting history lesson about the "real" Marriott's Great America's Edge. Taken from... http://www.greatamericaparks.com/edge.html Great America parks is an excellent site if you want to learn more about the real Marriott parks. You could definately use it as a source of inspiration for this park. -

^ Are you serious??? I highly recommend PMing the person you traded with and asking them if they recieved yours or sent theirs yet... If they don't reply, try to send them another message. After a while, if you don't recieve a reply, you might've gotten ripped off. And I also recommend keeping track of your trades by asking the other person that traded with you to send you a PM when they put their brochures in the mail and when they recieve them. -
