  1. Mmmmm some of that food looks good! Making me hungry! "Anyone leaving their arms and legs outside the car will be given pom poms and forced to cheer for the red team." That totally made my day!
  2. Will it work better with B&M Inverts, floorless and SLC's? I'm riding all those types next week and I'm really prone to having reactions to high acceleration and I definately DON'T want another trip to first aid!! Nor do I want that SLC incident of 2007 to repeat itself. For the "poor man's G-suit" effect of stapling, you have to put pressure on the right places or it won't work? I'm definately going to try the hiccup thing. I'm getting quite good at it!
  3. Again, the Playland Coaster. You feel like you're going to get thrown off any second. On almost every drop you're pretty much out of the seat and practically standing up. Someone who works on that ride told me that the forces on there are basically enough to keep someone in but I don't really believe it. That is indeed one ride I'll never get used to.
  4. I'd go with a Batman clone too. I had a terrible headache afterwards! I think the "whipping" of the B&M wingovers really did it to me. In one of those inversions (forgot which), I swear my vision went blurry for a second. Those Batman clones sure pack quite the punch for a mass produced model.
  5. At Playland, where I work, we have a strict rule about the use of cellphones, music players, gaming devices etc on the job. Same applies even for us sweepers. Yet once in a while I do see ride ops listening to their music players. The most I've seen was one time I was riding Corkscrew, I rode with an unlocked OTSR because some stupid person forgot! I wasn't hurt or anything as Corkscrew has enough force in the inversions to keep someone in (like when you spin a bucket of water upside down) and there's no hangtime. Corkscrew still uses the old Arrow trains that need to be locked and unlocked manual with foot pedals (1 pedal unlocks the entire car, I was the only one in that car). Was still scary anyways.
  6. I didn't enjoy Texas Giant either. I was sitting I think in the 3rd row from the back. I didn't feel much airtime for some reason but I didn't find it too painful or rough. 20 rides on Titan in a row?! I'd pass out if I was to ride even more than 3 times in a row!
  7. Or arrange the funerals! I also got another one yesterday, Older guy: Is that Cokscrew really the rollercoaster from World Expo 86? Me: Actually sory to say, but it isn't. The one at Expo 86 is now at Six Flags St. Louis, and it also has a completely different layout than this one. This one was relocated from a closed amusement park in Ontario called Boblo Island. Older guy: So I was wrong all along?!
  8. Here's my Titan picture. I have several other on ride photos but most of them are from my local park anyways. B&M you're not afraid of losing your cellphone? Lol at the guy holding out the map. How original... I look so funny after I greyout and I still managed to pose for the camera.
  9. I have to deal with the GP everyday at work, I'm a sweeper but people always ask me things. Today I got a funny one: Lady: Is the big wooden coaster safe? Me: If it isin't safe, it wouldn't be allowed to run.
  10. It's always interesting to see smaller parks from other countries outside North America. And what's with all the frogs? I assume its the parks mascot?
  11. I guess I'd go with the Pirate Ship even though I've only really been on afew HUSS Pirates and 1 Intamin Bounty. The Intamin version seems to go higher than the HUSS version but for some reason (atleast the one at SFOT) had NO AIRTIME.
  12. I like call that the "poor man's G suit" effect. Didn't really work for me on Titan though, maybe I didn't do it hard enough (don't you have to really dig in untill it hurts)? Or it's just too intense? Or was it because I was too tired and hungry right before I rode?
  13. The old freaky airtime monster at PNE Playland known as Coaster. I work at Playland now and on my days off I always go there to ride Coaster. I was planning on marathoning it for awhile but never really got the time or chance. Probably will do so this year sometime though.
  14. Yep, I love the taste of it too. Doesn't affect your energy level or your ability to tolerate high acceleration (which mine isin't too good anyways). Also from Chinese medicine, preserved sweet plum works great for motion sickness. Again, no side effects. Tastes kinda funny though but I actually like the taste of it. It's like salty and sweet and sour at the same time. You can buy it at most places that sell Asian food products, or Chinese herbal stores. Have you not ridden such intense rides for awhile or something? Took a break from the action? That would affect it. The body isn't used to taking so much force after a break from the action.
  15. I think it's the same for screaming and laughing. I'm really not sure about the being stapled thing though, I thought it sounded reasonable.
  16. Love it. The only thing is, instead of people thinkng I'm a coaster enthusiast with that, they'd think I'm a math geek instead. ~ Jess "Mathematically challenged actually" Chan
  17. The PNE Coaster. There's a picture of me on it in my avatar, but here's another one which shows the old school trains. Gotta love that freaky out-of-your-seat-almost-standing-up airtime. Still freaks me out to this day. I've never ridden any other coaster with such potent airtime. Sure it's not the tallest or fastest in the world, but it's definately a classic that has remained unchanged for 51 years.
  18. I guess that site is saying generally then. Have you tried chewing on a piece of ginger before you ride? Like even candied ginger will help. In Chinese medicine ginger is used to treat motion sickness. I do that before I go on an airplane and it works. Best of all, no side effects.
  19. Or just scream when it gets to the scariest part (usually the first drop)! I was so scared to the point of nearly crying when I rode Behemoth and going up that lift hill, I was telling myself "its ok, I'm not comming out of this train...Ahhhhhhhh!" Singing a song...I've done that too, going up Titan's lift hill I was singing "What goes up...must come down" over and over again. You all know that song right?
  20. It's just like after the ride, I was coughing really hard and trying to catch my breath. Alot of people were like that too and afew couldn't even walk straight.
  21. I remember riding that when I was like 3 and I went to Hong Kong with my family. I'd love to go back to Ocean Park someday and ride the "big kid" coasters that I wasn't able to ride before.
  22. Actually medications can affect your ability to tolerate accelertion. Because they affect the brain or something like that. Pulling G's takes stamina. I remembered that time felt like I was about to pass out on the SLC, I had a was abit sick before that too and I took some cold medicine that day. Quoted from http://aeromedical.org/Articles/g-loc.html (It's an information site for pilots but I think some of it can be applied to coaster enthusiasts) I am a vegetarian too myself and I've only actually had major problems on 2 rides, an SLC and Titan (Giovanola hyper). I do remember that both those times I was tired, hungry, and sick in some way. Also, I'm 5'2-ish and over 140lbs and not too healthy overall either. Do you have any family history of low blood pressure? It has to do with blood pressure too. Did you ever have your blood pressure tested? If you don't mind the loss of airtime, possible bruising, pain or discomfort, get stapled (as hard as possible, yeah it might hurt). It basically produces the same effect as a G-suit used by pilots and astronauts. By putting pressure on certain parts of the body, you're making it harder for the blood to drain away from the brain and pool in the lower body. Everyone’s tolerance to G force is different. Blacking out/greying out is normal. However, if you feel faint, extremely disoriented or confused, complete memory loss of the event, and prolonged visual disturbances/loss of colour vision after riding, tell a doctor as soon as possible as it could be an adverse reaction to acceleration. Screaming and laughing can also help increase your threshold by getting adrenaline rushing and getting oxygen to the brain. Holding your breath (due to fear or whatever reason), like riding at not full health or energy decreases your threshold. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-LOC ~ Jess "I'm not really a NASA doctor" Chan
  23. So far this year only Six Flags Over Texas once and Vancouver Playland several times (I work there anyways). Parks planned: California's Great America, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, and MAYBE Canada's Wonderland Marineland Ontario.
  24. Indeed, Titan will do that to ya. Will make you see trippy light spots and maybe walk weird afterwards. Infact I had to go to first aid that time because my mom was so worried I might pass out (I was already hungry, tired, thirsty, and abit sick before I rode Titan). Although have yet to meet somene who doesn't have a problem with Titan. Were you coughing when you got back to the station because the forces made it hard to breathe? Shockwave is a fun lil machine indeed. So glad to lose my Schwartzkopf virginity to it. Those two loops sure are intense! I actually almost "folded in half" on the second loop. Did you find Flashback smooth? I found quite smooth, no headbanging for me. I hear it's one of the smoother boomerangs out there. Did you ride Conquistador (The Intamin pirate ship in the Spain area)? If so, did you get any airtime on it? I didn't get any for some reason. Kinda disapointed with it.
  25. It's a safety issue. Because those rides are just that intense. Titan especially, 1 ride and I was pretty much seeing things.
