  1. I'm sad that they are replacing the park entrance. It was one of my favorites and I thought it looked really nice when entering the park. But it's true that it wasn't very crowd efficient. Let's hope they don't make it as bad as SFSTL's entrance.
  2. I got a few I can share... Granted this isn't the actual on-ride photo, but one of my friends took this picture and it turned out great! From 2012. I am the awesome one wearing the SpongeBob T-shirt... I think I was 9 years old when I rode it and even as Bizarro, one of my favorite rides anywhere. From 2004. And this has to be my favorite. Riding Nemesis (front row) in the rain was a crazy experience! I don't know how Alton Towers can run this in the rain, but it was amazing! I can't explain enough that it was *pouring rain* as you can see in the photo! You couldn't even see a thing. From 2012.
  3. For some reason, Great American Scream Machine (SFOG) was not on the list, it wasn't my favorite ride but I couldn't find it. 4. Thank you all for the comments and taking the time to check out my report! Means a lot, and since you guys did that for me, I'll post another park from my adventures in England over the summer. (Alton Towers is next!) So on August 10th, 2012... I took a trip to Drayton Manor! The weather was perfect - blue sky and white clouds, no rain clouds in sight. It was a bit crowded that day but the lines were manageable. G-Force wasn't open until an hour and a half after the park opened, and the line filled up fast with only one train running. Waited 45 minutes, and I felt bad for anyone that had to wait in the extremely long queue. Operations were great and I gotta say, all these England parks really impressed me with their attention to scenery and foliage, they really take care of themselves. Drayton really kept up on repainting their rides and making everything seem fresh and new, even if it might now have been. I also wanna say that Drayton Manor was my favorite British theme park that I've been to (Out of Thorpe, Alton, Legoland, and Drayton) as I felt it had a great collection of rides. While none of the roller coasters are *AMAZING* or come near my Top 20, I still think they were fun and unique to the park. The operations were great and I liked the food they had, and they had the best collection of flat rides out of any park in England. I did not have time to do the zoo but I did manage to get to Thomas Town and it is very, very, very well done. Shockwave: After riding Cobra at La Ronde and finding that complete crap, Shockwave actually turned my view on Intamin stand ups into a 180. While it's not better than a B&M stand up, the zero-g was a lot of fun and has a great setting over the rapids. The double corkscrew I was worried about as well, but it's not bad either. Has a superb station too, very well themed. G-Force: I don't know, really. It's not that good. I think Drayton was looking for a signature coaster, something that separates it from the rest, and they certainly did that. It doesn't really make the park awful as it looks nice (besides the station) but they could have gotten something better. And special shout out to their flume ride! For a park the size of Drayton Manor, I did not expect it to have that well of a themed log-flume style ride if I can even call it that. It's very cool! And now onto the pictures... I edited them a bit because my camera is crap, and if you guys don't like them, I won't edit the Alton Tower pictures. Welcome to Drayton Manor! To minimize our wait times that day, we went straight to the Ben 10 boomerang. Good for Vekoma at marketing this ride as a family ride as it is very popular, but does nothing for me. At least it's not rough like the other Boomerangs... And like any ride at Drayton, they did an *amazing* job theming it. It takes you up one spike backwards before releasing you forwards and then you go through the course backwards. The kids loved it though, and that's what matters. Early in the park opening and this ride was down for maintenance. It's a pretty ride though, at least the paint doesn't fade as quick as those roller coasters in southern California. At first, I wouldn't consider this an inversion but I guess you do go upside down, this ride is full of wacky stuff. I just want to applaud Drayton for repainting Shockwave, it looks brand new and really looks like they care for the park. The ride goes *through the trees*!!! The zero-g is what I was looking forward to most on this ride, and if I can add, it was worth it. This ride has many Millennium Force style 'straight ways' where the track just goes straight, but it doesn't make the ride any less boring because it gives you a sense of speed. Great setting for the park. Looks a lot better than many areas at parks like Cedar Point, SFMM, etc. The ride finally opened with one train operations and we went in line right away. While we still had to wait 45 minutes, the line got to at least a 2 hour wait. Ridiculous. At least it's a hit with the public. I want to try out SHOCK at Rainbow Magic Land because I feel that the Maurer Sohne rides with 2 carts are not as good with the rides with 1 car. Yeah... Definitely one of the better Frisbees. I haven't been on MaXair, but it has a long ride cycle and you get some good forces while spinning. I wish it was as good as it looked. It is extremely loud and goes at a sloth's pace through the whole course. Rolling through the zero-G. Props to Drayton Manor for running 2 trains on Shockwave even though the ride was a walk on. Good for them. Close up I love how they built the ride around/over the rapids, it makes it that much more special. Especially the funky supports. See what I mean about the supports? It's a very pretty sight. Oh, but the water for the rapids was very dirty. For a ride that doesn't really get you wet though, it had a long line. (It was pretty hot that day) Those people are deciding whether or not to risk 2 hours of their time waiting in line for G-Force to find out that it would not be worth it. Not much airtime on this ride because the restraints hurt a bit. They strap you in at a weird angle. This is the 'log flume' I was talking about... Oh yeah, forgot what park I was at, thanks for the reminder! WHAT IS THIS??!?!? A BACKWARDS SECTION??!? AND IT GETS YOU ***SOAKED*** The park is situated on the lake and makes it look so beautiful that not many parks in the US can compare. They would fill in the lake with dirt to make room for a new giga coaster, but not here! The only picture I got of the powered coaster. Pretty weird but still fun. I forgot why though, there was something about this ride that made it special. I think it's rumored to be taken down for their new addition in 2 years? UGHHH! One of the scariest drop towers around! I did the stand up side and it's taller than I thought it was. And it TILTED. Nearly shat myself. I love drop towers, but they scare me so bad. I love how they take your picture on the ride. My face was priceless. The last photo I took at the park. On their website, the park was going to close at 5, but they stay opened until around 7 due to the crowds. Another reason why it's my favorite British park! Hope they don't lose their charm next time I visit! Thanks for reading...
  5. Hey TPR! I've been on this section of the forums many times but never posted any parks. I've built many parks before but never felt any of them were good enough to post until this one, so I hope you guys enjoy it. I appreciate feedback especially because my building style can be really weird. Let me present Marriott's Grand America! Located just outside of Ottawa, Canada and it going to represent the America's in general. It was first opened in 1978 (2 years after the original Great America's opened) and will open a new section of the park in 1979! I'm gonna treat the park as if it's opened year by year so you won't be seeing any B&M's for awhile Enjoy! SCR56.BMP The entrance The train station to Round-About Express. You have to pass through it to enter 'Hometown Square' and the other station is located on the other end of the park. If you take a left as soon as you pass the train station, you can ride the Turn of the Century. It's a updated version of the other Turn of the Century's at the Great America's, but maybe it will go under an update in a few years! Take a spin on Crazy Cruiser, a Schwarzkopf Jumbo jet, a unique model. Some theming. While Tidal Wave premiered in 1978 as a new ride at Marriott's Great America, Tidal Wave premiered at Marriott's Grand America as a ride that opened with the park. Spinning Aces (Scrambler) as well as the South end train station of 'Hometown Square' finishes off this update. SCR63.BMP And of course you can ride the Observation Flyer, located in the center of a lake. Be careful though, as it is one of the most popular rides in the park! Total layout of what I've seen so far.
  6. Thinking about posting this park later tonight or sometime this week. Working really hard on it and it's turning out great! And this is just one section of the park, I definitely plan on adding 3 or more areas.
  7. Here's my entry to the contest! Let me say, this was actually a big challenge for me. Seeing the other entries, I don't understand how any of them had enough time to build anything, really. Seeing as there were no rules against not building any new rides, I didn't... Seeing as it was mainly focused on retheming the existing rides, that is what I tried to accomplish! It took nearly all the 5 years to do it, and I tried my best, so please go check it out! Click the Download Image to lead you to the Game Exchange download! 8. I voted for the Chicago 1920's as well. Out of all the ones they mentioned in Screams and Dreams this year, that one looked pretty well done.
  9. Little update with what I did with the woodie and surrounding area. Link: http://i49.tinypic.com/2itheog.jpg
  10. I felt bad for the park as it didn't really have an entrance and the horribly knocked-off Chinese SLC is placed right there, so I had to compromise a bit. I'm still working on certain areas of the park, but I love what I've been doing! Here's a pic of the entrance area. It's gonna be a fun contest! (If the photo is only loading halfway through, here's a link to the picture! http://i49.tinypic.com/2ym7l39.jpg ) Edit: To Chrixz, that's a great park! You finished really quickly, but I like what you did on the lake. (Don't worry, I won't steal it!) SCR43.BMP
  11. Wow, I know what everyone is thinking... Why have I not been updating this thread more often? Well today is your lucky day because I have a few trip reports I can post onto this thread! Not like anyone cares about this... but let's continue! Over the summer, a couple of my friends and I headed around England hitting up a few theme parks (Thorpe Park, Alton Towers, Chessington, Drayton, and Legoland) and I had a great time. The parks are similar, yet very different than the typical American parks. The rides were great and instead of every park having a boomerang, a powered coaster was the ride to have! Let's start off with Thorpe Park. So flashback to August 9th, what were you doing that day? I was enjoying my day at Thorpe Park. I never knew I'd visit the park this early in my life, especially the year The Swarm opened, and I was impressed! The park was a lot smaller than I thought it would be, but I guess it's because I'm used to American parks. There are mostly thrill rides in this park, as Chessington is more of the family park, but it still didn't disappoint. The biggest problem with the park are the Fast Track passes. I waited over an hour for Nemesis Inferno, even when the line was not that long. They are probably on par with Fast Lane in terms of customer satisfaction. But let's just go into quick detail on some of the coasters... The Swarm: Oh. My. God. Even though I got one ride on this, it's still the best wing-rider that opened this year. It is better than X-Flight, and loads better than Wild Eagle (which is my least favorite). Swarm has the same drop as X-Flight, but I rode in the back row, and wow!!! My favorite part of the the ride was the inclined loop into the low to the ground turn. The plane at the bottom of the drop was cool, but even the barrel roll over the station was really good. And like I said, the best wing-rider that I rode, but I haven't been on Raptor at Gardaland yet, but maybe someone else can chime in on which they like better? Saw: The Ride: Overall, shaky, rough, good airtime, and one of the better Euro-Fighters. You could say it's on par with Mystery Mine with a bigger outdoor section. I prefer Mystery Mine but this isn't too bad. The theming is really good, and I love the Saw movies. Colossus: I heard the countless complaints that this ride is rough, breaks your neck, and overall isn't an enjoyable ride. I rode in the 5th row and like Swarm, I was surprised. The ride doesn't slow down until the barrel rolls, and I *LOVED* the diving in and out of plants and the ground, the play with the terrain is so good! It's weird to say, but it's my favorite ride at the park. I'm not promising you'll enjoy your ride either, but I really enjoyed mine. Stealth: The best seat is definitely in the front row. Fast acceleration, and airtime on the top hat and the airtime hill. I wish the ride was longer, in the sense it did a turn or had another turn etc. I prefer it over Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka! I will also add that the park has a lot of greenery. So many tree, bushes, and plants, although there are some funky smells around the park. Whether is was a trash can or the park guests that don't like deodorant, it didn't ruin my day! And onto the pictures. I don't have a picture of it, but when you enter the parking lot (or car park!) there is a mini-roller coaster over the road. Apparently it's Intamin track, but I thought it was pretty cool. This is the park entrance though. The first ride we headed to was Saw. As it is still a relatively new ride with low capacity, it was a smart move. While it wasn't crazy busy, we were able to avoid 30 minute lines by getting there early. While the outdoor section is a lot crazy than the indoor section, I preferred the indoor part. I don't wanna give too much away, but if you ride the back row first time around, you'll be in for a big surprise! I honestly was not excited for this ride after hearing all the bad reviews for it. They were only running one train, so it was a smart move to get on it at the beginning of the day. I will add that even though it has 1 train, they had the train in and out of the station very quickly. Props for that crew! If you read what I posted above about this ride, the ride weaves under and over the path, and in between plants and bushes and it really adds to the ride. Nemesis, a huge disappointment. This was even before I rode the one at Alton Towers, but compared to Batman, Raptor, or any B&M invert in the US, it isn't very forceful. The pre-lift is pretty cool though. There's nothing really impressive about this ride. I think Thorpe wanted to live off of the Nemesis name, but yeah, it didn't work out well. As far as pretty coasters go, Stealth takes the crown. I'm always happy when a part has one of these This ride, ew. I'm not sure why these are popping up at random parks, but they aren't that good. I skipped it, but in 10 years, I can't wait for them to be removed. Stealth has a great entrance. The whole day was leading up to Swarm, and I was so excited. It was my 300th credit after all, so it was going to be special. The drop into the plane was really cool. See what I mean? The theming around the ride is well done. Although the queue line is something to complain about. Mmmmm! This was so well done, and I'm glad I rode in the back. I'm glad Thorpe Park was able to having something unique for Swarm. The drop and barrel rolls and corkscrews were all taken for other layouts, but the inclined loop is one of my favorite elements anywhere.
  12. A zoomed out picture of a park I'm working on. Only worked on it for a few hours but still a lot of rides to build! SCR42.BMP
  13. They seriously need to do something to attract more locals to the pier. I went in the summer and it was not busy, and judging from your photos, they can't be making much money. But I'm surprised you didn't like Iron Shark. I actually didn't care for the lap bar restrains because I whacked the people sitting next to me many times (the turns on that ride are very quick) but it's still fun euro-fighter!
  14. Very cool idea with the different themed corners! As well as the mountain in the middle of the park, I might steal that
  15. Keep the stand up! From what you posted, it appears to have a nice (and unique) layout! Although the Magic Carpet ride feels out of place being so close to the stand up. I like the start of your park, and the foliage around your observation tower is great.
  16. Once the Wacky Worlds problem is fixes, I'll participate as well!
  17. I took a trip to Dollywood with an amazing group of people I've honestly had so many fantastic moments this year, it's lame to list them all, but I had a lot of fun on my trip to England, and to Vegas, as well as my many trips to Six Flags Great America. I just hope I will have as much of an awesome time next year! Wooo!
  18. Sorry that I didn't have much time to read the whole report, but what did this ride take place of? I have yet to see a Transformers movie, but then again, I haven't seen Spiderman and that ride is totally awesome, and Transformers doesn't have a confusing plot line that Forbidden Journey has. So I can't wait to visit!
  19. I was able to visit this random park in Sweden in 2003 and in 2009, so I have both defunct credits as well as the one still operating. I wouldn't consider this credit as amazing, but it operated from 2009-2011 and not many people have ridden it. Ölands Djur & Nöjespark: http://rcdb.com/4913.htm The rare credit at the park... Afrika Expressen: http://rcdb.com/4510.htm
  20. I rode X-Flight front row yesterday. I was on the 2nd last train of the day and it was very cold. (A little above 40 degrees) And might I say, Fright Fest at SFGAm this year is great!
  21. Chad, I pretty much agree with you on everything. I decided to hit up Kemah Boardwalk and Pleasure Pier on the same day, and I felt like going from Kemah to Pleasure Pier was like tripping down the stairs. I went in July, so the beach had a fair amount of people and the water was warm like soup. I felt that the pier was super expensive and feel like they would have more business with free admission but offering a ticket system / ride wristband like they have now. That is what Kemah Boardwalk has and it works a lot better (And that place had a much better atmosphere as well!) Weird how you found Iron Shark rough though. It's not my favorite Euro-Fighter, but I liked it more than Untamed. I felt that Iron Shark was so fast, that it whipped you around the seats and I bumped shoulders with the people next to me nearly every turn. I didn't ride anything else on the pier as the Star Flyer wasn't open yet and the other rides were just the same rides from other parks. I probably won't go to back unless they lower their prices or something. I'd rather try Schlitterbahn Galveston a chance... I just feel like, outside of the beach and the pier, there isn't much else to do in that area of Galveston. And I doubt many people that live in Galveston visit the pier, because they built the pier for tourists instead of the locals. And a lot of people that own homes in Galveston are vacation homes of some sort, which they are in during the summer, so it makes sense that not many are visiting the pier. Oh well...
  22. Very interested in the Mexico trip as well as the Taiwan trip (Gravity Max is my biggest draw!) and Japan I'll save for another year. You guys always manage to impress me with the trips that are planned every year
  23. Honestly, I'm okay with this. SFGAm is my home park and we got a really nice roller coaster this year! Other parks need to have their chance to shine while SFGAm adds a not-so-expensive attraction. I'm sure we'll get something great in 2014 or '15. I don't understand why people assume we'll add the latest and greatest coaster every year.
