POLL: Waterslide Riding Position?
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not sure I've ever crossed behind the head, but it looks painful. I always thought the arms crossing enforcement was to make sure that people don't fling their arms out and try to grab the sides of the slide where they could really hurt themselves. Maybe some parks enforce arms-behind-the-head because it's harder and takes longer to reach out and grab the side of the slide from that position than an arms-crossed-at-chest position? Just a thought, at least in regards to speed slides because they're pretty fast rides. -
It'd be difficult to find a place for that particular coaster, yes, but just because the Zonga/THBS spot is now filled doesn't mean they don't have other areas they could build awesome coasters in the coming years. I totally agree. I thought it was a fun ride and I was a little disappointed to hear that they're taking out such a new ride, but I won't miss it too much. It usually had really long slow-moving lines and it's not worth the wait. If it weren't for ERT with TPR, I probably wouldn't have ridden it as much as I have.

^Still, that's not bad. I live 1.5 miles from a Walmart/mall/any other major shopping center let alone an amusement park. I'm not complaining because we have some really nice natural beauty, but I always like to plan at least one trip a year to SFDK or SFMM. I haven't been to CGA in a long time because it doesn't feel worth the cost and effort it takes me to make an excursion like that, but I'm considering just going anyway if TPR does a SFDK/CGA weekend again next year.

I do that too! It drives me nuts sometimes though because when I'm messaging to non-Verizon and it goes over 160 characters, the extra characters get sent in a different message. Then I sit there for a few minutes deleting my signature, apostrophes, and changing "and" to & to get the message 160 chars. or less. It really is good practice to avoid text speak as much as possible. I had a professor recently showing sample bad e-mails that students had sent that included lots of text-speak. The whole time I was horrified (but somehow not surprised) about the e-mails. I always at least double-check my e-mails to professors and other business professionals and revise if needed.

I work there as a park guest Actually, I just go there a lot. A lot of people seem to recognize me now that they've seen my face many times...even got stopped by the park's entertainment director Patrick so he can introduce himself to me. LOL that's awesome! If I lived near a park, I would definitely get a season pass and go all the time too (theoretically that is, life tends to get busier than I expect it!).

Angry_Gumball... do you work at CGA or just go there often? Because it sounds like you visit there a lot and I was a little confused on whether you are a ride op. Side note: I met someone yesterday who said she worked at CGA. It was after the TFK concert and we were being fan-tards and standing at the gate to meet the band and get autographs. She told the guitarist that she had to cut off her dreds because Great America wouldn't let her keep them. This is what I said: Me: "You work at Great America?" Her: "Yes." Me: "Have you ever been to Six Flags?" Her: "No." Me: "Not even Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo?" Her: "No. I live in San Jose and I don't go very far." Me: "Well you should. Discovery Kingdom is getting an awesome new coaster next year... and come on, Great America just took out Invertigo." Her: "Yeah, I know. I guess the chain broke or something and they had to take it out. It's too bad." It seemed like a weird explanation for CGA taking out Invertigo, and I didn't get to ask her more about what she meant by it, but it made me wonder: do we know why they took it out, exactly?

B&M vs Intamin
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to alpengeistdude321's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's hard to say, but I voted B&M. Here's why: While I do agree that Intamin has more OMFG-this-is-crazy!-type coasters (most of my favorites are Intamin), I just love the reliability of B&Ms. They manufacture some pretty fun rides! There are not very many B&Ms I don't like, but several Intamins that I don't really care for, and several that I like now, but if I rode them over and over again, I'd get pretty bored. However, B&M coasters are still fun even with repeated rides. I have ridden Medusa at SFDK soooooo many times, but I never get tired of it. It's just a fun coaster. Other things I like about B&Ms: They don't appear too "scary" to most GPs, so I can usually convince the people I'm with to ride them with me; B&M coasters are pretty long-lasting (at least the ones I've ridden); they are very smooth; I like the variances of the inversions; but most of all, I'm pretty familiar with B&Ms and if I see one at a park, I know I can count on it to be a good coaster. But like I said, I'm a lot more familiar with B&Ms and as I ride more Intamins, I might change my opinion. -
That was my first thought, however the two times I've been to the park its not been very crowded, and everything's basically been a one train wait. So im not too concerned over having to wait hours on end for this. The park usually isn't too bad but it just depends on the day. Usually midday the coasters and water rides get fairly long lines (an hour or less, I'd say) but at that time I usually go have lunch, see the whale show, and look at some of the animals. V2 is kinda like this capacity-wise and I hardly ever see V2 get too bad, but V2 has also been there a while and this is brand new. Ditto! The more I look at pictures, videos, and descriptions about this, the more I go

Whoa! None of us were expecting that! Someone posted the link like 30 min. after I got off to do my math homework, and I didn't get back on until now. I'm so mad. I should have checked this before I went to bed. Anyway.... my first reaction seeing this was, "It's basically V2 with a loop, what are they thinking?" but now after looking closer at it, I think it's actually a really good move. I'm not sure about the wing coaster at SFGAm, but this definitely looks better than the other announcements! Plus, it'll have a nice element for SFDK to brag about (tallest loop in the West). Judging from all of your reactions, it sounds like it's going to do what it really is intended to do: bring in thrill seekers! Also, I thought that this was a really interesting idea given the small space where Pandemonium was and given the height restriction. I'm not disappointed. And when I heard about Six Flags trademarking the Superman: Ultimate Flight name it never occurred to me that SFDK might get it! Two concerns: 1) It looks like the train might have a tendency to valley at the top 2) Low capacity One question: Watching the video, it looks like it only goes through the entire circuit (and the big loop) once going forward, is that correct?

What is your next park?
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to onewheeled999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll be surprised if I can go to any other park this year, but I'll be saving up for 2012! Especially if the announcements tomorrow go the way a lot of us are hoping, I might just go opening day on some of the new rides. -
I really can't wait for the announcements! SFMM and SFDK both announcing their 2012 plans? I think I'm going to die from anticipation! Does anyone know what time the announcements will be? Is it going to be live anywhere? Like someone else said, I've always heard the plans after they're announced, so I have no idea how this works.

A 5-hour wait on Colossus. What's worse than a cheesy horror movie? -
No But I already went to one earlier this year, which is one more than I've gone to in years. Do you like Six Flags parks better than Cedar Fair parks?

You're riding a coaster when your restraints fail after the first drop and you fly out and hit a GP. What's worse than hearing your favorite coaster is now SBNO? -
Rabbit. Watch shows on TV when they air or Netflix them later?

Dolphins! I happen to love dolphins, but I don't know anyone who'd answer sharks to that. Would you rather marry your 2nd cousin or a sibling's ex-husband/wife?

Having a cartoon cliffside-chase during hurricane Irene. What's worse than hearing a really bad cover of a good song? -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ummm....cause he doesn't? Do you? Whoops, my bad. I'm still was so shocked that someone random knew Swarzkopf that I've forgotten that Kong is Vekoma! I looked at the SFDK page and saw the possibly-TPR member reply, but thought the comment after that was hilarious. Guy 1: " Eurofighter coaster? Flat ride? Wait! An inverted stand up wooden launched 4D Aquatrax coaster" Guy 2: "^ my mind = blown" -
LOL! I'm so going to the Facebook now to read them! MOVED from the "Weirdest Things the GP have said" thread (because I forgot which thread I was in and went off-topic a little too much!) During our Q&A at SFDK, the guy there did mention that it will always be Marine World in many people's hearts (referring to those who grew up with Marine World). It warmed my heart to hear that. I understand why they changed the name, but it will always be Marine World to me. Does anyone still have original merchandise/maps/brochures with the Marine World/Marine World Africa USA logo on it? I'd be interested to see pictures of some of the things you all have. A few of the things I have(Marine World Africa USA): a pennant, a sweatshirt, several brochures and maps, a deck of cards with the old whales on it, some post cards with various animals, and a plate with illustrations of different animals incl. a whale and a dolphin. The plate is the most awesome thing out of them all and totally a mistake. I believe my grandma bought it for me at a local yard sale because she knew I liked things with whales on them, but no one realized that it said "Marine World Africa USA" on it until I saw it and told her. I was like then Best yard-sale gift EVER!!!! If you want I can try to gather these things and take a picture of them. Whoa from Redwood City? That's awesome! I was very lucky to win one of those Bag of Crap raffles too, so I got a mug. Made the bag a lot less "crappy"! Also, there was a book about killer whales that I saw in my elementary school library that had a whole chapter on Vigga, the whale that died in 2001 before they got Shouka. I'd really like to get that book. EDIT: I just now looked up the title on Amazon and actually fount it! Eureka! The two whales on the cover are actually Yaka and Vigga from Marine World. I think it's Yaka jumping over Vigga and I think this is the exact picture that I have on the deck of cards. http://www.amazon.com/Orcas-Supermen-Cover---Cover-Informational/dp/0789152584/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1314501999&sr=1-1
