  1. No, but I've mistaken one of the others (I think it was the GP thread, but since we were talking about SFDK I mistook it for the SFDK thread and posted this huge response about SFDK) Have you ever been on TPR for more than 3 hours?
  2. Half the time I've been here browsing the strange coasters thread and looking at pictures, my mom has been in the other room on the phone talking about me. I have 3 siblings, but it always seems like I get talked about the most when my mom's on the phone. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing... I've heard her traverse topics such as my excitement with my by-line in the paper, me tutoring math but not having a real job, me telling her I'm a math nerd this semester, me not having a boyfriend, my troubles last year, and me voting Democratic and her concern with me voting more liberal than her (even though I've never voted yet, and I'm registered "undeclared") Mommm....
  3. I've had fun just looking at all the strange coasters on this thread. There are some really weird ones in various countries in Europe and in China and Japan. I saw this one, but it was SBNO the year I was there. Too bad. It's probably the strangest one I've seen in person. It's a real tower from a gold mine turned into a coaster. http://rcdb.com/1481.htm
  4. That's what it was. I didn't know if they still did it. If I found out a band I really liked was going, I probably would go again (and maybe convince my sister to go... she's the concert freak of the family and I'm the coaster freak). I wonder if JMA will keep it going? ^^TOTALLY THIS.
  5. Losing your lunch at the park entrance. What's worse than having feet like this? (https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/306979_1529363890888_1738453547_747585_1545380270_n.jpg) NOTE: Don't click if you have a faint stomach. It's a nasty picture of gangrenous feet that someone posted on Facebook from their medical text.
  6. Ride a Vekoma, although I just answered your question. Would you rather work as a professor of an extremely difficult math class for a career, or teach numbers to kindergartners for a career?
  7. Yeah! It was a great trip I took with a mission's group in '07. I saw the park on RCDB and got all excited when I found out that it was in the city we were going to, but by the time we were in the country, I gave up on going to the park because we were so busy. But then the missionary we were with surprised us on the last day of the trip and took us there. That was one of the longest, slowest-moving lines I ever remember being in, but we played circle games in line and even got some of the other people in line to join in with us. I really loved the theming of this coaster and I've never seen theming like it since (though I think there are some Busch gardens parks that I've heard has great theming like this). One weird thing about going to the park that kinda put South Africa into perspective.... most of the people we saw in our ten days were African, but at the park almost everyone was white. I'm guessing it's probably because of the huge difference in money-class between the whites and the Africans. Most of the Africans struggle to feed their families, let alone go to the amusement park. It's really sad.
  8. ^So tempting, but I really need to save all my money. The one and only time I've been to CGA it was for a Christian rock concert, and if you're talking about the same amphitheater that I'm thinking of, the particular concert event I went to was an annual thing, at least for a while (because some people had been to the same thing the year before I went). That was in like 2005/2006 (can't remember which at the moment). But I definitely would love to see them expand an event like that, as the amphitheater was pretty crowded. It was a very memorable day and I had a lot of fun. I completely agree! I was fortunate to visit a few NE parts in 2009 when my dad and I took a road trip for my senior trip. The trip was awesome and I loved the parks but it was super expensive and I would have to spend a lot of money if I wanted to go back to any of them (or visit others). So I pretty much have two choices: 1) Visit the California parks (which SFDK and CGA are the closest for me, but still about 4 hours drive) 2) Don't ride coasters. It's a non-choice for me. I hate it when I hear people from the east coast bagging on CA parks... whether SFMM, SFDK, and CGA have the best coasters/best operations/are the best parks compared to ones on the east coast doesn't really matter to me. It's all we've got, and you learn to love them for their good qualities.
  9. The power going out/computer crashing just as you realize you forgot to save your term paper and you lose everything you've written. What's worse than having your laptop lose power right in the middle of a long post?
  10. I know this is an old post and I don't think X2 has this anymore in the station, but I still love it! I heard someone say, "Is everybody in? The ceremony is about to begin." and I got all excited because it reminded me of X2. I also liked the whispering echoes "X..x.. TWO...two..." Also because you can't really see the coaster from the station, it really heightened the suspenseful mood. I really like inside Tower of Terror. So cool. It really captures the old haunted feel of the ride. ^A pic I took around '06 of a sign in the queue. I never could tell if the red smudges were blood, or rust, or both, but I thought it looked really cool. ^Outside the ride, a sign thing that twinkles. I thought it was awesome. A coaster I rode in South Africa. The line took FOREVER, but the station and the queue was really beautiful. (The pics are from RCDB, I'm not sure where my pics ended up)
  11. That kinda bothered me too. Great America is not my home park (SFDK is) and I've only been to CGA once, but I'm pulling for it because we don't have a lot up here in NorCal. I would be pissed if people were verbally auctioning off the stuff at SFDK, so I can completely understand where you're coming from. That being said, I also am afraid to put too high hopes in this company. I thought it would be a good thing when I heard that CF (an established amusement company) bought CGA, but they really did nothing for the park, if not make it worse. But it did occur to me that since this company isn't jaded with high-amassing parks all over the country, maybe they'll have lots more time and energy to invest in the park. I hope that's the case... I would be sad to see any more bad things happen to CGA. It's gone through so much, it just needs some love.
  12. Never been on the left, so I'll say right. S:EFK forwards or backwards?
  13. No, the next person to post [after me] did. Do you have any cats?
  14. A few years ago a friend of mine said she went to SFMM and didn't ride anything but the carousel. I was like: ?!?!?!? ?!?!?
  15. Six Flags and Cedar Fair being bought by department stores and food chains and letting all of the coasters run horribly while pasting their ads on every possible space in the park (including the toilet paper). What's worse than the zombie apocalypse?
  16. ^^ Great ideas! I could see them really making this park good, but what I think is almost certain, this park won't be like it was before and probably won't be anything like other amusement parks we're accustomed to. If/when they get a new coaster, I doubt they'd get anything significant or take care of it the way a company would who's been in the business a long time. But we'll just have to see, JMA might surprise us.
  17. CGA staying open but Cedar Fair takes out every coaster before they surrender the park. What's worse than football-themed coasters at CGA?
  18. Oh I forgot one biggie... everything at SFNE besides Bizarro. We were had a strict time-boundary because we were driving up to Niagara that day but I insisted that we go ride Bizarro (with our season pass). I really wanted to stay but we already had overnight arrangements that would cost us if we missed them.
  19. Thanks Angry_Gumball and robman! I think I understand better now. I just realized that I never visited CGA as CGA. Last time I visited it was around 2005 and still owned by Paramount. I'm thinking they might run it more like a boardwalk amusement park where each ride cost separately but entrance is free. I hope not, because if they did it would be highly unlikely that they get any good coasters or rides. Is that what you were thinking by "Entertainment Complex"?
  20. The main one I can think of was Maverick at Cedar Point. We were going two days in a row, and day 1 there were long lines and I didn't feel like waiting. Day 2 it was closed. I really wish I had just waited for it. I got every credit there except that one. Also one of the sides of Colossus, I'm thinking it was the left, and the left side of Superman: The Escape (I don't know if they were running it the one and only time I rode it, and last year when I went I didn't ride it)
  21. I'm still not sure how I feel about this. My first reaction was, "Whoa, NOT expecting that." but then I thought about it and realized it was actually quite predictable, but I wasn't expecting to hear it at this time in the year (right as Haunt is gearing up). My second reaction was sadness in thinking that they were going to dump the park, but now I'm thinking this might actually be a good thing for CGA. I don't think I ever understood the stadium thing correctly... I thought that the stadium was planned to be built on the same grounds as CGA and that CGA would close for good, but if I'm understanding this correct, the stadium will be built near CGA and will share a parking lot. Is this correct? Does anyone have an arial view of the proposed stadium in relation to the park? I was thinking the same thing. In context, it seems like they just randomly named two rides that people would know, but that doesn't necessarily mean those two will stay. I guess all we can do now is wait and see and hope for the best...
  22. Just took a look at that Westcoaster update. That's exciting! Maybe there will be something coming for 2012 for Knott's after all? *not quite wanting to believe the rumors until we hear or see something more solid*
  23. I think it was because I got that CD the summer that we were between houses and lived with my grandma, and half the time I holed up in my room (which was actually a pantry with a cot thrown in the middle) and listened to that CD until I got sick of it. Then a few years later my dad got into the CD and played it non-stop all the time. And there's something about the sound of that particular that just isn't really my style. I haven't really listened to anything since that CD (which iTunes tells me was made in 2004), so I might like them again if I bought the newest CD. Christian rock/alternative is my favorite genre too. And it's cool because the artists aren't so famous that they don't have time for their fans. My sister went to this concert where she got a backstage pass with Family Force 5 and she still talks to them on Twitter sometimes, and this year at a Christian alt/rock fest we hung around after TFK played and the band members took turns coming over and chatting with us, signing autographs, and taking pictures.
  24. Not much, but maybe getting kidnapped and forced to listen to this for 12 hours. What's worse than getting stuck going to an amusement park with the most GP-like person you know?
  25. Yes, even with all it's faults. Is SFMM your favorite park in California?
