What is your local park?
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've thought of that many times. In my opinion, your home park should be the one you go to the most/feel most connected with. If you live close to a certain park but almost never visit it compared to how often you visit another, how can it be your home park? -
I usually prefer the front even though the wait is often twice as long as any other row. I just love the view and not having to stare at the back of someone's head for most of the ride. When the front row is really really long, I'll sometimes take the second-to-front row. On wooden coasters, I generally prefer the back. If I have time, I try to ride at least once in the front and once in the back.

I've been listening to Family Force 5's newest album (III) lately. I really don't care for it much except this song: http://youtu.be/2xiOydMk2lA It's kinda ironic because I doubt the band members have ever really had money issues, but the things they say are pretty funny and so true! All of you broke dopes out there need to hear it. One thing I really like about this band is their versatility. I don't care for the music on this cd as much, but each song is very different from the rest. I hope they get back more to their rock/alt. rock + dance roots soon because that's what I really liked the best from them.

LOL I'll have to say yes but it would never be diagnosed. Ever since I learned about the spread of germs in public places, I refuse to touch doorknobs with my bare hands. If I do, I have to wash my hands or apply hand-sanitizer. Have you ever done something on Facebook or TPR that you thought was hilarious because it was late and night and you were hyper, then the next day you couldn't remember what was so funny about it?

Thanks guys! I understand the jerk function a lot better now. Since we're mainly focusing on derivatives for this next exam, does someone have an example about how derivatives can apply in this situation? I've been understanding derivatives well enough but I'm still a little fuzzy about why they're important. Too late. The semester is already halfway over and next semester I already have 18 units planned. I probably will never take math again in my life.

Yes Is there one song you know so well that you could sing it from start to finish a'capella?

My professor knows I like coasters, so when I asked him a question about coasters and Calculus that he couldn't answer, he said I could go find out for extra credit. We're learning derivatives and we were discussing the applications of derivatives. Coasters came up when we were discussing the "jerk" function... I think the 3rd derivative of position, the 2nd derivative of velocity, the first derivative of acceleration. Two questions that I'd really appreciate if anyone can help me answer! 1) What ways do derivatives assist roller coaster engineers? 2) (Something I've been wondering that my professor couldn't answer)... is there a reason Formula Rossa is a lot faster than Kingda Ka but not nearly as high? Is it because the forces the body would experience going nearly 150 mph and over 450 feet high are too extreme? Or is it merely a difference in the manufacturing of the two coasters? I'm wondering how possible it is from an engineering perspective for a coaster to be as tall/taller than KK and as fast/faster than Formula Rossa? I'm not an Engineering major, I'm an English major, but I decided to take Calculus instead of Statistics partially so I could better understand and appreciate the math that goes into engineering coasters. If someone could give me a good explanation to this that doesn't mind me copying their answer for my Calculus teacher, I'd really appreciate it!

GAME: What's worse than...

^LMAO that was a good answer! Someone stealing your laptop, ipod, textbooks, and stereo out of your car, and you come to find out that they were worth more than the car itself. What's worse than getting promoted at work and then the same night that you're promoted, someone breaks in and steals thousands of dollars worth of stuff and it gets blamed on you? -
How would I be able to reply if I didn't? Do you prefer this game to the This or That game?

the B&M. Would you rather live in a really ugly place that has lots of nearby movie theaters, malls, shopping centers, places to eat, things to do, etc. or live in the middle of nowhere where it's beautiful?

(One way trips) SFDK: about 4 hours CGA: about 4 hours 45 minutes SFMM: 8.5 hours Knott's: 9.5 hours This may seem like a lot (and it is) but knock off about 1.5 hours each way because that's how long it takes us to drive to the nearest Walmart/mall/shopping center/large movie theater. I used to live closer to SFDK and went there every year since I was a little kid, so I definitely consider it my home park. I think I will probably still consider it my home park even if I end up going to university somewhere that's technically closer to CGA or SFMM. -

Following through on suicide What's worse than being late for work because you want to finish replying to some posts on TPR? (true story, but I really g2g now! ) -
Yes, maybe one of the ones at Magic Mountain that got removed shortly before I ever visited the park (Psyclone, maybe?) Have you ever made a death park on RCT3? (i.e.: smashing peeps with launched coasters, making nauseous rides, etc.)
-
^^There always seems to be plenty of clowns chasing your cousin whenever you go... maybe they put her on some sort of list of "People to chase around the park". Seeing all these pics about CGA has been inspiring me to want to visit CGA again... I realize that I'll never get to go to CGA during it's Cedar Fair days (the last time I went it was it's last year as a Paramount park) but I think it would be interesting to go next year and compare it to what I remember from the last time I went... Plus, when I transfer to whichever university I'm going to go to, there's a good chance I might be closer to these parks. But if I end up living closer to CGA, can I still count SFDK as my home park?

Shane's Amusement Attic

^ This. It's a lot easier to relocate a house than an amusement park. Plus, I have to think that having a park like this would be great for the economy/tourism in the area. This looks so cool, and I agree with whoever said that it would rival Disneyland. I would love to see another heavily-themed park come to California, but I doubt we'll see anything for years to come. Do you know why this never happened? -
