Unanswered/Dumb Question-Dumb Answer game
Force 310 replied to Angry_Gumball's topic in Random, Random, Random
The CFNameBot 3000X is not pleased with your query. Why do the vast majority of comic strips suck? -
^Are you talking about acceleration g's or positive/negative g's? If it's the former, then if you're facing backwards, it's the same kind of force that you would get coming to a stop while facing forwards, so you could probably comfortably withstand only about 0.5 to about 1 G for any extended period of time. The optimal way to make that work would be to use cars that spin but have passengers facing in one direction (like Reverchon's spinning mice). As for positive/negative g's, tolerance is about the same whether you're facing forwards or backwards, as far as I know. Mindbender at Galaxyland is a very forceful coaster from what I've heard, but it's able to operate with the last car in the train facing backwards. So that shouldn't be a problem.

Uh, bad definition. Many flat rides (not to mention the majority of wheeled vehicles) are on a track of some sort and move. Try harder.

The list Twister II posted should work well. It's extensive enough to make other compilations of scenery redundant. -
Geauga Lake - Photo & Video TR - 7.28.07
Force 310 replied to Theme-Park-Urge's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Great TR, as the posters above me have already reiterated. It brings back some great memories of the few fleeting months in which I was able to enjoy GL. Even if it was lacking in rides and atmosphere at that point in its history, I'll still miss the park. I remember going to the Sea World side of the park when I was younger, and I definitely remember the 2007 season, brief as it might have been. I only became interested in coasters (and willing to ride them) in late May of that year, when my school took a field trip to the park. As I said... memories... -
I didn't know that people counted their credits on drop towers in the first place.

It looks more like a flat ride to me. Two (maybe three? couldn't tell...) short, continuous, round tracks that are being rotated in a flat-style motion... the "coaster"-ish part doesn't look powered to me, but there's no lift hill either; the trains seem to be moved primarily by the undulating base... I'm just going to go out on a limb and say no. I don't know why, but the ride shown reminds me of little marvel of poor engineering.

Percussion, rudimentary piano skills, and if you put a harmonica in front of me I could probably get some sort of basic two-note melody going.

Two corrections... Flip-Flap Railway was wood. This is correct. It was also probably the only coaster to pull as many as 12 Gs. However, Loop-the-Loop ran on a three-rail steel track system. I have the patents for an earlier concept of Edwin Prescott's steel-track looping coaster similar to Loop-the-Loop somewhere in my bedroom. Anyway, the point is that it's steel. Also, Stealth was not the first "flying" coaster. Skytrak at Granada Studios in the UK was. Actually, according to RCDB, Stealth was technically the third flying coaster, with Komet at Encounter Zone in Dubai, a very screwed-up family coaster, opening in 1998. Stealth was still the first flying coaster with a conventional track system of some sort, though. Skytrak ran on a single-rail system, as did Komet.Just look at how durable and smooth Komet's track system looks... Luckily, though, it was only seven feet tall and it closed in 2005. I would have liked to ride it if only out of perverse curiosity.

It's open in one of my tabs right now. When was the last time that a preposition was the word that you ended a sentence with? -

I never have. I don't think I've ever seen or heard of anything called a "minidisc." When was the last time you consulted Wikipedia? -
Yeah, I hope the trips will be going on at least four to six years from now... my parents aren't exactly what you would call "coaster enthusiasts" or "GP who are mildly interested in something about coasters" or even "people who can tolerate coasters." So even though we probably have the money, adult accompaniment would be impractical, to say the least.

It's 2008! Where are you headed this year?
Force 310 replied to OldJJman's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, I know that I'll be going to Waldameer, CP, KI, Hersheypark, and Knoebels and/or Kennywood at some time or another this year. Other than that, it's mostly wishful thinking. Which will not be tolerated. -

So, no school today because of some crazy wind chills or something. And when I say "crazy," I mean in the vein of -10° Fahrenheit or so, as they were this morning.

Nürburgring launched coaster
Force 310 replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
To make it less of a pain to read for English speakers (and also paraphrasing quite a bit), here's a version that's more readable even though it sounds stilted: And the rest of it is about the other developments going on at the race track. So... 138 mph, according to the press release. In 2.5 seconds. Using a bit of guess-and-check with the NL calculator, that's about 2.5 acceleration g's, which is within tolerances, but still... Then again, besides the launch, I haven't heard many good things about S&S launched coasters (excluding Powder Keg). The uninspired layout (as I understand, one of the elements is 1575 feet of straight track?) is also unappealing. The launch should be suitably wacky, but otherwise, it just looks like something built blatantly to break a record or two then move on.
