  1. Wow, I'd missed that. So glad that common sense has returned...
  2. I felt security in Colombia to be very good. Honestly, I think the country has a bad rep because of what happened there decades ago. At no point did I feel unsafe there. There are security guards everywhere, which tends to imply that they are needed, but I felt them effective. (BTW, to the earlier poster, we actually hit two parks with a Boomerang and SLC side by side...)
  3. Only three, though a further two were not rideable - one due to a height limit, one due to missing track and train!
  4. All three times I've been there the queues for all four big coasters have exceeded two hours (one trip in May, two trips in September). You were lucky. Though I am a little confused -- why on earth didn't you buy a free pass if the park was that quiet?
  5. A few of us have just returned from two weeks touring around South America, during which we visited Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The trip was planned primarily around coasters, but we did do some touristy stuff too, primarily two days at the magnificent Iguasu Falls on the Argentina/Brazil/Paraguay border, but also Mitad del Mundo in Ecuador, the Estadio Centenario in Uruguay, the Itaipu Dam in Paraguay, and three Hard Rock Cafés I've put a full series of trip reports online here: http://www.bannister.org/coasters/trips/2012/ I've also uploaded photos from twelve of the parks: Complejo Pekos Parque Tematico (Argentina) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/pekos/ Fantasilandia (Chile) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/fantasilandia/ Karting Cross (Colombia) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/kartingcross/ Mampato Lo Barnechea (Chile) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/mampatolb/ Mundo Aventura (Colombia) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/mundoaventura/ Parque de la Costa (Argentina) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/parquedelacosta/ Parque Nacional del Café (Colombia) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/pndc/ Parque Norte (Colombia) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/parquenorte/ Parque Rodo (Uruguay) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/parquerodo/ Salitre Magico (Colombia) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/salitre/ VulQano Park (Ecuador) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/vulqano/ Attached are a handful of photos to whet the appetite. Salitre Magico (Colombia) Parque de la Costa (Argentina) Complejo Pekos (Argentina) I rather suspect more reports will be coming on this trip soon from the other participants!
  6. In my experience, the chances of using more than one ticket per coaster per day at Fuji-Q are pretty close to non-existent. (Takabisha is absolutely stunning, FWIW -- it's just a shame they built it at Fuji-Queue).
  7. Xetulul is lovely. I have to say that I didn't find Guatemala even remotely scary when I was there, though perhaps things have changed since 2010. You're right that the road from the capital to the park is fairly bouncy though
  8. That's annoying right enough, but there are worse things in life than being felt up by cute Japanese women!
  9. You shouldn't have to. I can't imagine the wait for that ride is ever more than thirty minutes, and that only happens when everyone in the entire park is queueing for it... BTW, sorry to raise my pet peeve again, but Ferrari World is not in Dubai; it's in Abu Dhabi, a neighbouring emirate – in American terms, mixing that up is like saying that Coney Island is in New Jersey.
  10. Same thing they did with Hard Rock Park...
  11. They'd need to redesign Formula Rossa so that the trains inverted when attempting to take a corner over 60 MPH. That, and a revision of the launch to hit a top speed (of about 90MPH) after 35-40 seconds.
  12. I can't say I'm surprised. I was there on a Friday night (which is the first day of the weekend in the UAE) and the park was basically deserted; the staff outnumbered the guests anyway. The launch on Formula Rossa is incredible, but it's about the only thing in the park that'd make me go back to be honest. The rest of it didn't do that much for me. On the plus side, it's 10 minutes in a taxi from AUH, where I often connect flights
  13. The first time I rode Deja Vu at SFGAM; on the pull back up the first lift hill my restraint, with all my weight on it, opened one notch. That was pretty bloody scary...
  14. Visiting the DPRK for a week was mine -- quite apart from the five obscure credits, it was a really fascinating experience.
  15. Shrug. It looked awesome, but rode like a shopping trolley with a missing wheel over cobblestones. I rode it once, and that was quite enough.
  16. It also introduces one major new one; international users who can't use the system without paying a small fortune in data roaming costs.
  17. The KMG Mission Space ride (pictured a few pages back) will be open from December 8th to January 8th in Dublin, Ireland -- about the only time we get something new to play with...
  18. Eurostar is quite possibly the most uncomfortable roller coaster in the entire multiverse. I'd encourage anyone planning to ride it to stock up on painkillers beforehand; you will need them.
  19. Pretty damn scary. The concept of ejector-seat airtime is completely redefined by Jungle Storm. You know a ride is insane when coaster enthusiasts are hanging on for dear life...
  20. Nice work on the Jungle Storm POV. Maybe it'll help some others understand why I've raved about it so much
  21. Stand-up pirate ships are really fun, if just a little dangerous
  22. I'm not planning the trip, so it's not up to me, but I would have thought it a bit far from the announced plan; it's about 450km west of Shanghai. For what it's worth, the Hebei coaster at Sun Park was utterly horrible, and that only had three inversions...
  23. Those religious extremists are just being silly now
  24. You might be a coaster nerd if... this is part of your web site!
  25. ...which is why I feel that the poll should stop pretending to be international (which it isn't) and instead concentrate on listing the most popular attractions in the United States (which it does). I'd have far more respect for it in that scenario. Nice essay by the way
