Great pictures Wes! I'm a little sad I didn't get to come out and join you today. The ride is looking so good, I tell you February can't come fast enough. I agree with you about Winterfest, hey maybe that's something that will change with the new buyout? If BGE and Dollywood can have Christmas events, then we most certainly can.

Roy E. Disney Passes Away...
Pufferfish replied to ginzo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What a depressing way to end the decade, and right before Christmas too. I really respected this man, and I'm very scared to know how this will effect the company. He will be very missed by me and my entire family. RIP Roy, you made your uncle proud. -
How did you end up here???
Pufferfish replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, I've been here for over 2 years now and I haven't seen nor posted in this thread yet, whoops, oh well. I originally found this site by seeing a couple videos on Youtube. I saw how awesome they were and I followed the link here. It was then about another 4-5 months before I actually decided to join, but it was probably one of the best decisions I have made. -
This sounds very "unique." I wonder exactly what doing this entitles to that town. Hey, what if they build a Castle in the center of that roundabout? Speaking of the roundabout, that thing is more like a pentagon in a square with each corner being a roundabout. I'd hate to see that thing with traffic.

Starting up the next season
Pufferfish replied to TYTL's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
For me it's going to be Carowinds for the first park of 2010 with Intimidator being the first coaster. I don't know the exact date as of yet, but right now it's looking like March 25th. -
Water Coaster VS Log Flume
Pufferfish replied to dmaxsba2408's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The only way this question can be answered is by yourself because it all matters on what you define as being a coaster. My personal definition of a coaster is any tracked ride that has at least 1 section of track where the only thing moving the ride vehicle forward is the force of gravity. I personally don't count Ripsaw Falls as a coaster because if the tracked hill after the drop was all that it would need to be a coaster, then Splash Mountain and countless other log flumes should be counted as well. -
The Men Who Stare At Goats: This movie is very good. It has an excellent cast, a great storyline, and the perfect balance of real humor and stoner humor. Most of the jokes are very well hidden and will probably take a couple of veiws to get the full meaning from them. If you are wondering, don't listen to others, this movie is NOT an anti-war movie. It does base itself around a bunch of hippies though. If you enjoy stoner comedy, then you will love this movie. 8/10

I guess I should go ahead and fess up to my nerdiness. I have never had to use a park map before, I just pick them up to collect them. I constantly doodle full coaster layouts anytime I get bored. I used to be able to mimic the exact sounds a coaster would make. My entire wardrobe consists of coaster/park t-shirts. I own almost all of the TPR DVDs. The backgrounds on all my computers and phones are pictures of coasters. I have all my onride photos proudly displayed in my bedroom. I have multiple pieces of different coasters. I have an entire box full of ticket stubs and park maps from everywhere I've been. Every time my family considers going somewhere on vacation I can quickly and easily name a park that is nearby the area, and I make sure it's included on the trip. I think that's all, I might have some more though.

Roller Coasters in the RAW Volume 4!
Pufferfish replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My copy came in today. I was right, this is my new favorite of the Raw series. All of the footage was excellent and worth every penny. Bumblebee says, "Buy it now!" -
My drawing of Hersheypark (with a surprise)
Pufferfish replied to HPCrazy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is just amazing! You need to show this map to the park and see if they'll hire you to design their maps. You'd do a brilliant job, in fact when I first saw this, the first thing that ran through my head is, "Is this one of the professionals showing off one of their W-I-Ps?" -
Roller Coasters in the RAW Volume 4!
Pufferfish replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As soon as I get my copy I'll post a picture of Bumblebee holding it. I'm actually very excited about this volume. It looks like it might be the best yet. Volume 2 is currently my favorite. -
Bringing food to US themeparks
Pufferfish replied to Coasterfan85's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Pretty much all of the Six Flags and Cedar Fair parks don't allow food to be brought in from outside of the park. It pulls away too much extra capital from the parks when you bring food in from outside instead of buying what they serve. I'm glad you are coming to visit and I hope you have a great time. -
A Christmas Carol: Let me start off by saying, DO NOT TAKE YOUR LITTLE KIDS TO SEE THIS! This is in no way a kid's movie and if you have any experience with Charles Dicken's works, you would understand. This is a near perfect portrayal of the novel and can give your child lasting nightmares. The only times it strays from the novel is very inconspicuous and is only there for comedic/dramatic effect. The atmosphere created in the film is very dark and cold. This is THE best portrayal of this story I have seen. It is even better than the broadway production I watched a couple years ago. The voice acting was brilliant, the story was fluent and spot on with the novel, and the animation style, while still creepy looking, really worked for this film. 10/10 One final note on the scariness of this film. I actually say that some parts of this film are scarier and more disturbing than Paranormal Activity. This is a horror movie about Christmas, just with a PG rating. Everyone go see it NOW!

SCarowinds 2009
Pufferfish replied to Whoa, Davie!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, this is the first time I have ever heard someone say our event was better than HHN. I'm glad you liked it. Were you the guy who was wearing the TPR hoodie or was that someone else? Just to let you know, Slaughterhouse is about 5 years old now and it has been using the Saw theme music for at least the past 3. So, if there was any resemblance between them, Slaughterhouse is obviously the original. -
Okay, I have something to add to this "not enough for teens to do" conversation. I went on my first ever Disney cruise earlier this year. I was 17 at the time and I was very nervous thinking that I would be miserable due to lack of things to do. As soon as we started doing things, my attitude automatically changed. The cruise turned out to be one of the best vacations I've ever had. It was so good that I am thinking of booking a cruise as soon as the Dream is available. So take my word for it. There is more to do than you really think there is. Also, complaining about not enough "sporting" activities to do on the ship, well guess what, that's what the excursions are for. I ended up spending more time off the ship than I did on it. Castaway Cay and Nassau have a crap load of awesome things that you can do while docked there. My opinion, try it out. You might just end up really liking it.

Let's just say, this trim is probably actually needed. I mean without it, there's no telling how intense the turnaround might really be. When you are changing from a height of 232ft to a height of 125ft over a series of just three hills, that's a lot of potential energy. So unless you want to hit that hammerhead at 60mph and fly through it (over-estimation), that trim isn't really so bad. Hey, just be glad they only put in 1 of the available two. Oh and speaking of trims, they recently installed one on hurler. Apparently two bad things really is a good thing, because that trim actually made the ride very tolerable without killing the airtime. -
A new $35 million waterpark for Cairns has recieved approval from the regional council. It is set to start construction in May to be finished for 2011. This will just be the first stage of construction with the second one set to begin construction as soon as the first stage is open. Source:www.themeparknewsdirect.com/australia-and-new-zealand/2009/adventure-waters-receives-approval I have to say, this looks like a really nice project. They are really going to utilize the land they have very well. Here's a couple pictures of what they are planning. Photo: Adventure Waters Photo: Adventure Waters
