Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Except that TTD wasn't a dissapointment for most people. In fact, it's gotten voted one of the top roller coasters in the world! http://www.amusementtoday.com/2004gtasteel.html http://www.geocities.com/wcoasterpoll/scprs04.txt --Robb "I always say you should ride a coaster before you judge it!" A note about posting "Photo TR's"
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You use the "Add attachment" button. You only hit "submit" when you are done "adding attachments" --Robb -
Ok, so here are the results (Keep in mind that some of the votes were disqualified for various reasons - people not putting the correct names, people voting for 4 instead of 3, etc...) But overall, damn! It looks like Elissa's boobs cleaned up on this one! Except for the fact that my avatar is disqualified since 1. It wasn't actually my idea (although I did take the photo) and 2. I don't really want a pound of my own pocket fluff!!! So, the 2nd place and now thus the 1st place winner is..... Drum roll...... continued drum roll...... slightly softer drum roll...... followed by slightly louder drum roll..... followed by the sound of humping elephants..... MEMPHISH!!!!! Yay!!!!!! You get a trophy! Seriously, though, send me a PM and we'll figure out what you get to win in this amazing contest! And just to let you all know, Ted, who IS the original Fanatic came in 2nd place.....I guess your mug just isn't as interesting as Elissa's boobs or a couple of elephants doing the waka-waka move! AllisonY2K and SuperCrack also got quite a few votes, but not enough to win, so you both still suck! Anyway, thanks for playing this round of "Avatar Theme Week." Now it's time to come up with another theme!!! --Robb Congrats Memphish!!!

Knoebels '06? Vintage Looper?
robbalvey replied to CoasterEricHP's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So wait...Knoebel's is getting a Squirell Cages ride??? I'm baffled how there doesn't seem to be many of these left in the US, but they were all over Japan! --Robb -

Coaster Loading Crews
robbalvey replied to Erik Johnson's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Yes, I was there for that 17 second dispatch! That was amazing!!!!! Also, there was just a coaster on the Europe trip that we said they were going at "Knoebel's speeds" but now I can't remember which one! I have also seen the PNE coaster crew dispatch a train in under 20 seconds. --Robb "But hands down I think the Phoenix crew gets it!" Alvey -

You know, I recall people saying the same thing about "The Legend" when it was first announced.... --Robb -

^ It will also get PTC trains, which is something a lot of the other steel structured CCI's didn't have. In fact, the only ones I can think of are New Mexico Rattler and Silver Comet and those both held up pretty well! --Robb -
Junior Coaster Club

^ I was just going to say the same thing. I think I've seen more tantrums thrown by ACE members in parks than kids! --Robb -

^ What is the difference between being a member of a "club" that does newsletters, organized meets, etc, and being a member of a "forum" that does newsletters, organzied meets, etc? --Robb "Sounds like an issue of syntax to me!" Alvey -
Yeah, EBL actually does have a point. If you actually live in a decent area of California and you didn't have to travel anywhere around the state on a regular basis, it could be ok. As for me, I really like the area where I live, Valencia (and no NOT because of SFMM!), but since I have to drive from basically Santa Clarita to LAX every day (see for yourself on the traffic map: http://traffic.tann.net/lartraffic/) and deal with LA traffic, LA people, and in general LA ever day, I hate it! If my company was up here in Valencia, I'd love it, other than the fact that I don't think California has a single decent major park in it! I far more enjoyed living in the Baltimore/D.C. area where, not only was Florida a short, cheap Southwest flight away, but I also had 33 parks, most of which are some of my favorites, and ALL of which crap all over the pathetic California parks within a few hours drive of where I lived..... --Robb "...Knoebel's, Cedar Point, SFA, SFGAdv, Hershey, PKD, BGW, Wildwood, SFNE, Kennywood, Geauga Lake, *sigh*" Alvey

I totally have to agree with this. I have found myself more and more excited about water parks because so many new water rides are doing more interesting things that coasters these days. Between the Tornado slides, 'bowl' slides, master blasters, half-pipes, etc, there are actually more water rides that have me psyched to go to parks than coasters lately. Not to say I don't like coasters, but there hasn't been quite as much innovation in the past 5 years as there has been with water rides. I mean, what was the last real innovative coaster that actually *worked*? the B&M Inverted coaster from like 1992? --Robb

Yes, yes...it's on the list.... 1. Get caught up with day job. 2. Revamp Photo Gallery 3. Post 1st Europe video segment 4. Post MASSIVE Europe photo update 5. Post Florida photos I won't forget I swear! --Robb

I think this sentance says it all right there: "held her as a shield during a gun battle with police..." Perhaps her father shouldn't have been doing whatever it was that caused a gun battle with the police? Sad? Of course. But isn't all crime in the world? --Robb

Here is my thoughts on this topic....while my knee-jerk reaction is to close it simply because political topics usually end in a flame war, which ironically just proves the reasons why there is war in the world in the first place. But since the people on TPR seem to be fairly well behaved, I'm going to leave this open. If it gets ugly, it WILL be closed. --Robb

I'm actually surprised no one commented on this, but I think with the announcement from HW, I can see how this got overlooked. IMO, this is pretty big news. I mean, does anyone know much about this company? I know I've been to the London Dungeon, and it wasn't crap, but are they capable of running 4 very well themed parks? And did London Dungeon add a dark ride at some point recently? I thought the last time I was there I remembered seeing an advertizement for a dark ride. Any thoughts on this? --Robb
