  1. Eric really hit the nail on the head. I can pretty much tolerate just about ANYTHING in a park except for a lack of efficiency. Even a "low capacity" ride can be run efficiently. But when I see a Wild Mouse that's only running two or three cars, and the ops are taking the LONGEST time possible to load a ride, that REALLY bugs me. We always tell the story of the one time we went to SFFT and Superman was running ONE train, with ONE op! And that guy was unbelievable! The train would pull into the station, and he would HUSSLE to get people out of the train and into their seats and he RAN to check EVERY restraint, and was back to the console before you knew it! He was running a major coaster all BY HIMSELF faster than I see a full crew on most coasters at Knott's! (Ghostrider and Montezooma's comes to mind!) So yeah, as much as I hate stuff like line jumpers, people who smoke in line, etc, etc....I can put up with ALL that as long as the ride I'm waiting for is being run as efficiently as possible. --Robb "One of the reasons why I liked the Japan parks (except Fuji-Q) so much!" Alvey
  2. Ok, I even did a little photo. I mean, obviously not ALL the areas in yellow would be "easy" to build something, because there would be infastructure that they would need to move. But they've done it before! (Indy and ToonTown come to mind) so they can do it again, if they REALLY wanted to! Look at the following areas in comparison to the size of the Space Mountain building. So yeah, it's entirely possible. When you look at it from a bird's eye view, you realize just how tiny some attractions are! --Robb
  3. Disneyland has plenty of room to build a new ride. In fact, most parks, if they want a new ride, CAN. Most people always assume that since they can't "see" the space that a new ride can go, doesn't mean a park can't fit one in somewhere. For example, just look at Silver Bullet. Had someone told me a year prior that they'd fit a huge B&M in that space, I wouldn't have believed them! Just have a look at the satellite view, and you can see plenty of areas where a new ride could go: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=1313+Harbor+Blvd,+Anaheim,+CA&spn=0.005443,0.008613&t=k&hl=en Behind Space Mountian; Behind Indy, Mansion, or Pirates; behind Innoventions (or hell, take out that stupid thing!), or basically anywhere that is 'outside' the berm. Have a look at It's a Small World. That entire ride exists in the employee backstage area. It's just the ride and the entrance that appear 'onstage'. Same thing with Indy. Have a look at how ToonTown was shoehorned into a backstage area. They could create a whole new land out of that area behind Big Thunder if they wanted to. Just move or remove some backstage stuff, and you've got a plot of land about the same size as the area that Autopia and the Subs take up! So yeah, there's a lot of room, it's just hard to see! --Robb
  4. ^ He's talking about the fact that Castles N Coasters is an "RC Cola" park. You know how most parks are either "Coke Parks" or "Pepsi Parks"? I always find it funny when a park is not one of the two majors! Usually says something about that park! --Robb
  5. ^ Well, sure. If it was installed somewhere else and themed to something else OTHER than Space, it would be a brand new E-ticket. But the reality is, they re-built the EXACT same track layout with some new effects with the same name! For example, had they built a 2nd Space Mountain right NEXT to the original, called it Space Mountain: Mission 2, and it was the Disneyland Paris version of the ride, then THAT would be a new E-Ticket! A good example would be when they built a clone of Indy at Animal Kingdom, but themed it to Countdown to Extinction. It's the exact same track layout, exact same ride vehicle system, but it's a totaly differen theme, and thus a different E-Ticket ride (although it's arguable if it's actually an E-ticket!) The Matterhorn didn't count as a "New E-Ticket" in 1978 when they re-did the mountain and re-themed it to what it is today, so why should Space Mountain count? Those who remember the Matterhorn previous to the re-theme of 1978 will know EXACTLY what I'm talking about and know that it's pretty much the same thing as what they did to Space Mountain this year. --Robb "Old man!" Alvey The Matterhorn *cough* New *cough* for 1978
  6. Voting has closed! Elissa and I will be working on the ballots this weekend and hopefully have some results tomorrow or Monday! Good luck to everyone! --Robb
  7. ^ IMO, A rehab of a ride that I have been riding for the past 27 years is NOT a new E-Ticket, sorry. Also, he never said anything about wanting thrills, he said he wanted a better "Disney Experience." Before yelling at someone, read the guys original post! BTW, I edited out some of your harsh comments, because, quite honestly, they just weren't necessary. --Robb "Even with better effects, Space Mountain, IMO is NOT a new ride!" Alvey
  8. Grrr....someone needs to read the thread "A note about posting Photo TR's!" http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17407 --Robb
  9. ^ Agreed about Animal Kingdom. We haven't visited AK on our last two trips to WDW. --Robb "Although we've never been to AK at night, and I'm told we should!" Alvey
  10. You mean like the tea cups and dumbo? And Golden Zephyr? You do realize that the ONLY other ride like that left IN THE WORLD is found at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. And the Sun Wheel, the only other ride like that IN THE WORLD is found at Coney Island. So they really haven't built rides that you can find at your local county fair. In fact Disneyland has more rides you'll find at your "local county fair" than DCA does. They just happen to have a lot more 'bigger rides' to hide that fact. But keep in mind, they have had FIFTY YEARS to evolve that park into what it is today. Have you seen photos of DL when it first opened? Not too much there! Think about it, you find those types of "County Fair" rides at EVERY Disney Park. They off-set the E-tickets. The issue here is quite simple: you don't like DCA. It's not that it's a good or bad park, it's that you don't like it. And that's totaly ok, a lot of people don't like it. I mean, I'm not knocking you, I can totally relate! For example, I don't like Animal Kingdom! (Sorry Reed!) But I deal with it. I just simply don't go there as often when I visit WDW. And think about it, they have WAY less to do than DCA! And even when they get Expedition Everest, they'll still have less to do! Animal Kingdom opened like 7 years ago, and they are just now getting a major coaster. At least DCA opened the doors with one. I'm bummed you don't like DCA, I think it's a beautiful park, especially at night, but hey, the park isn't going to be for everyone. It's not the best park they have ever built, but IMO, it's certainly not the worst, either. Look, I do agree with you, I want Disneyland to get another E-ticket like Journey To The Center Of The Earth just as much as the next person. But I also think that DCA is a pretty fun park as it is, even though I wouldn't complain at all if they too got another major ride, like Rock N Roller Coaster. But I also enjoy those 'little' rides for what they are. --Robb "I probably ride Orange Stinger on every trip to DCA and enjoy it just fine!" Alvey
  11. In the past ten years the Disneyland Resort has gotten a WHOLE NEW PARK with more attractions on day one than Disney/MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, Disney Studios Paris, DisneySeas and even the upcoming Hong Kong Disneyland. Oh, but YOU don't like that park, so therefore it's not good? I have news for you, DCA is one of the top ten parks in America regardless if you like it or not. DCA also is home to the most "E Tickets" opened in the least amount of time at ANY Disney Resort. California Screamin' is a great ride, Grizzly River Run is a great ride, and while I personally might not like Soarin', it's VERY popular with Disney's target market (so much so that they've put it in WDW.) And while Tower of Terror might not be as good as Florida's IMO, it's still a GREAT ride. So yeah, I do agree with you that it's a bummer that "Disneyland Park" hasn't gotten a major E ticket since Indy, but quite frankly, neither has Magic Kindom in Florida or Tokyo Disneyland. Both those park's last "E Ticket" was Splash Mountain. And the last major ride that Disneyland Paris got was Space Mountain in 1995. And yes, while Islands of Adventure is a park that I agree is "how it should be done", it's also "how it should be done" when your competition is the four parks of Walt Disney World. Anything less and the park would have been a failure next to the competition. And even still, do you remember those first few years of IOA where you could Dragon Hop in the middle of a Saturday? It is not necessarily "how it should be done" when you the #1 or #2 destination resort building a long-term investment. Disney has the luxury of being able to open a new park with fewer attractions and it's a hit with their target audience. I was so surprised with DCA the first time I went in 2001. I mean, did you visit Disney/MGM, Animal Kingdom or Disney Studios Paris in their opening years? I did, and WOW...compared to them, DCA seemed like a park that had years of development already! Try to see things from the persective of people who visit these destination resorts once every 5 to 10 years. Now, keep in mind, that even having said all this, the Disneyland Resort is my least favorite of the four Disney Resorts. So while I mostly agree with you, and I would love to see a new E-ticket at Disneyland, I do try to see things through a different set of eyes. --Robb "They don't make parks for "us", they make them for their target audience." Alvey
  12. Welcome to the boards everyone who has posted in this thread recently!
  13. ^ That's ok. I'm assuming one of the reasons you probably haven't seen examples of it, is because we have been deleting them. So you being confused is actually probably a good thing in a way! I should have stated before "Those of you who are doing it, know who you are...everyone else ignore this thread..." --Robb "Didn't want to make it sound like it's a global issue!" Alvey
  14. What? Who ever said I wasn't allowing "discussions???" Discussion is fine. Difference of opinions is fine. Even if a discussion gets a bit heated is fine. Bickering and yelling at people because they have an opinion will NOT be tolerated here. Acting childish and typing in HUGE TEXT is NOT going to be allowed on this board either! The reason for this thread is because there has been a lot of bickering, name calling, and childish behavior going on, which I have had to delete. Those of you who are doing it know who you are, and if it doesn't stop, your accounts will be banned. Plain and simple. I never said we were banning having "discussions." --Robb "Who knows what the point of forums are all about, thanks." Alvey
  15. You avatar wasn't nominated because you never submitted it! It's one thing to make an avatar, but you actually have to UPLOAD it into the "Submit your Avatar" thread for it to be counted! --Robb
  16. Ok, It you need to watch what you say and how you come off because you're not coming off too 'nice' to some people including me. Please go read the "I'm only going to say this once...." thread. --Robb "If stuff like this keep happening, people are going to be asked not to post here anymore." Alvey
  17. This is a cool buffallo..... "Don't mess with me!"
  18. ^ and yeah, two people DID end up getting banned because of that! --Robb
  19. ^ Correct. And the only thing you will lose is the ability to post on these boards. --Robb
  20. First off, in my profession, there aren't many other jobs outside of CA. And IMO, the place sucks, at least the LA area. It's not the worst state in the world, and Orange County and San Diego are far better than LA, but I would prefer to live on the east coast if I could. The reason I moved outta here in the first place was when I found a job in my profession OUTSIDE of CA, but that place closed up after three years. When I find a job that can pay me an equivalent salary outside of the LA area, you bet your ass I'm outta here! --Robb
  21. Guys, gals, everyone.... Over the past week I've noticed a lot more "bickering" going on in this forum than ever before. People near-flaming someone else for opinions, taking our personal issues on the forum, etc. You need to 'calm down.' Seriously. If you don't like one another, that's something you need to work out amongst yourselves, but DO NOT TAKE IT OUT ON THE BOARDS! I do not want to have to start closing threads and banning people, but I will if I have to. This is a place to have fun, post goofy stuff, and enjoy each other's company. Understood? --Robb "Please police yourselves because you don't want us to have to do it!" Alvey
  22. This was posted in the wrong forum...moving it to the "Roller Coasters" forum.... --Robb
  23. Ok, guys, some of this behavior is NOT what we want here. If you want flame wars or to fight amongst each other, take it to another board. Maliboomer, It, Maynard, Twister - you've been warned. Next time, your posting privilages will be revoked. --Robb "Please don't let it happen again." Alvey
  24. Goliath is not a bad ride, but IMO it's not a great ride either. If you've never been on any other hyper coaster, you'll love it. But having come back from amazing coasters like Expedition GeForce and Walibi World's Goliath, SFMM's just seems very tame. The drop is really not that great. It might be tall, yes, but it's not very steep. It produces very minor floater airtime in the back seat at best. Still, I'm sure you'll have a very good time on the ride. --Robb
