Some of you may remember when I started to make the park Legacies a few pages back (it should be burried around p4 by now). Storywise, this picks up after Cedar Fair withdrew their ownership of the park.... --- Although this year of recovery for Legacies has proved to be nothing but devistating to the park's reputation, alot has been happening behind the scenes. After withdrawing their ownership of the park, Cedar Fair set off to find a small baron plot of land in the tristate area of Ohio,Kentucky, and Indiana. Setting up camp in Kentucky, Cedar Fair began to create a few major attractions including a portable flume, a whip, and a Boomerang Coaster. Calling it "Legacies Carnivale", this new expansion proved to be Cedar Fair's downfall in this skirmish. Legacies immediately sued Cedar Fair for stealing their name, and won ownership of the land. What came to follow was 2 new coasters: A corkscrew named Nitro (Legacies got permission to use the name from SF), and ofcourse construction began for the chain's signature ride; Project: Wildcat. --- Nitro Overview.

So, Mt. O's indoor park is done already? I know Upa isnt cuz you didnt snare that credit but...Ah well. I cant wait till my next trip to visit my cousins in Wisconsin. We make a trip to Mt Olympus 3/4 of the time now...Also, great shots on the rides anyways. As I have stressed on many a thread, Cyclops is hands down my favorite woodie, with Hades in 3rd (after Hershey's Wildcat). Insane air, pitch black tunnels, and air time gocarts! I think that's actually the track I've driven on the most...Though Trojan should be cool now that it interacts with Hades. Oh well, I'm not here to write my review now am I? Great job as usual! And that means theres not really anything else for me to say but I have decided on what to do! Basically, bobsled/alpine coaster but whenever there is a straightaway (not at risk of swaying off track from a curve) it reverts back to flat track (not curved sheets of plywood). Unless that sounds unsafe. Either way, I can use the same type of blueprint for a halfpipe for the track shape (only obviously adjusted quite a bit). It should hug the ground pretty easilly without needing to be enforced too many times...
-
I actually just went outside with a couple of large sheets of spare wood and tested the top area. Although it obviously took control, it should work once I make the track (and include a larger drop) I'll take some shots of the area when it gets to be day again...(its the dead of night now...)
-
^True, but it costs just as much to make the track, since its a lot of large plywood sheets layered....On the other hand, I can litterally use an old skateboard (one of those big ones with only one tail) as the car with a few adjustments Layout-wise, both would have the same layout, though as I said, momentum back up the hill is an issue. Ofcourse, using a skateboard with a good starting ramp should give a nice push, but it can only do so much...
-
The way I see it, an alpine ride would be built with bent and layered plywood, sort of like a homemade skateboard ramp. Ofcourse it would be alot longer...And for economy sake, I may end up just making a rope lift that you have to pull yourself up. Makes it an interactive ride^^. Anyway, right now the out and back otpion seems to be taking the lead, but the alpine is still in the race. I'll give the poll a little longer before I decide...

How many coaster (or ride) Shirts do you own?
Reon replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
*PKI-25th aniversery *PKI-Vortex *Cedar Point-Fearsome 5 *Cedar Point-Coaster Checklist *SFAstroworld-35th aniversery *Shlitterbahn (that count? its a water park though...) *Dueling dragons shirt That makes 7. Horrible yes. But it means I have one for each day of the week. -
What type of coaster videos do you prefer?
Reon replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I like a mix of fun at parks with POVs personally...That doesnt seem to be an option though. -
Hmmm...Im thinking that if I do the out and back, it will start at the top with a small lift hill (maybe 5 feet?) and go down to ground level where it will go past my room (right corner of basement), then take a curving drop into the tunnel area. Once it emerges, theres probably room for another small bump before rising back to the top. Problem is, I dont know if there will be enough momentum to come back up. If I chose the alpine bobs, it will start some feet above the ground at the top and then fly down into the curved tunnel, around into the corner slope (another u turn there), and zig zag across the hillside or something... The drop ride will probably do the same, exept with a longer steeper drop, with supports going up the house... As for your building permit concerns, my dad is an architect, so we can figure out some way to handle it easily..Same goes constructionwise, as I helped with the company that built our house (and I know where they set up office since its in the same plaza where I work...)

Alright. I see the majority wants the alpine bobsled so far. Someone voted other, but I dont see a post describing what they meant...Care to elaborate? And yes, my yard is built on a hill...

Alright. No one has really been responding to what I've been posting in the backyard coaster thread, so I thought I'd make a seperate one for my backyard coaster. Unless your a retarded llama, you should already know that Project Wildcat is a backyard coaster project, especially since I just mentioned it. Even in that case, you know now, and knowing is half the battle *Cues GI Joe thing* Anyway, right now I NEED YOU ALL TO VOTE ON WHAT KIND OF COASTER IT SHOULD BE! I'd love to start construction asap, but I cant do it until I know what I'm doing. Here are some shots of the area...
-
2 differnet coasters. 2 just has a lift hill that rises over the Flash...
-
Looks awesome! Cant wait till it's done...I'm probabbly gonna call in a visit eventually to ride those two credits, but I'll bide my time until then. I still have to finish project wildcat after all *Points at near-dead backyard coasters thread. I NEED TO DECIDE ON THE LAYOUT, SO I NEED PEOPLE TO VOTE ON THE OPTIONS!* Anyways, yeah. Great work as usual John! You give us fellow backyard ride designers something to aspire to!

OK. I uploaded a few more pics of the 'backyard' for you guys. Turns out I had them ever since the summer Anyway, this should give you an idea of the area I have to work with. Any suggestions? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v467/Reon_Skyridge/Rollercoasters/backyard%20coaster/projectwildcat.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v467/Reon_Skyridge/Rollercoasters/backyard%20coaster/backyard.png Also, remember this tunnel through the trees is a must unless I do a freefall ride... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v467/Reon_Skyridge/Rollercoasters/backyard%20coaster/IMG_0221.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v467/Reon_Skyridge/Rollercoasters/backyard%20coaster/IMG_0222.jpg

I dont use NL. I posted some pics of the area I'm using a while ago. I'll see if I can find time to shoot some more...

*Uber-revives thread* Well, its been a much warmer winter than expected, so I may start Project Wildcat's (refer to page 3 for details) construction soon. Only one problem is that once again I'm thinking of revisions. Possibly a bobsled style run down the hill and through the 'tunnel', then snaking back up to a slope? For that case I'd use the side hill or have a starting ramp. Its either that or the out and back idea that was my latest revision. Thus I propose a pole: Vote for your favorite idea: *Out and back terrain coaster *Terrain bobsled with incomplete curcuit (think alpine coasterish) *Freefall with airtime hill *Other ideas... That...looks amazing! When you first mentioned alpine coasters, I figured you were just attepmting to get credits on alpine slides. After seing the pics, I had doubts..but THIS POV? Definately a credit in my book, and a magnificent attraction. The US needs some more of this kind of rides..I've only been on one, and it was just a slide... i hope your having a good time out there...Nice job on the TR so far

pass-holder or general opening? As long as I dont have work, I'll be there. Its almost an annual event for me>.> Jared"look for a guy in a dueling dragons shirt"Becker

The nice thing about smaller parks...
Reon replied to Movieguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Coney Island (Ohio). Nice little park thats never crowded, has some good old fashion flats, a credit, and a nice pool/water park. On top of that, its only $10 for a full day's visit. (and those bumper cars own. The floor is just TOO slippery.) I'm even thinking of getting a job there this summer as a ride op. (I doubt Kings Island would hire me now that they're switching companys *votes for Cedar Fair*) -
Your favorite coaster tunnel
Reon replied to chavslayer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The second and last tunnel on Beast. The second is cool because you dont know where your going, and the last...well, I dont need to go into that do I? ITS THE EARTHQUAKE MACHINE!!! But yeah. Hades>all. -
Paramounts Kings Island 2005
Reon replied to Reon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sonny I'll have to agree with. Vortex can be a bit rough due to aging, but I have ways around it (Im still skinny enought to stick my head out of the restraint.) Beast all depends where you sit... Racer though...dont ride forewards toward the back. It kills babies and eats them. -
Paramounts Kings Island 2005
Reon replied to Reon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Son of Beast is okay speed and thrillwise, but ridable...NO!!!!! THis thing bangs worse than 12 SLC's combined. Only ride it once. As for beast itself, still a great ride. The trims TOTALLY kill the air on the second hill, but the overall ride make up for it. Plus you cant beat the tunnels on it...AND WHY ISNT ANYONE TALKING ABOUT VORTEX???? Ride the back rows....one of the best classic steels around. -
Paramount has been sold
Reon replied to QueenCityBoy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The article states that PKI would keep their name till April 17 (just about when they open for the year) So, then would it still work? (Either way, my relatives pay for the pass yearly as a present, so I dont suffer from it) -
