  1. Are you serious? Elevators break down ALL the time. It just doesn't make the news. But elevator break downs usually aren't cable breaks (at least not that I know of). The steel fatigue (and thus fracture) has two components, the number of stress cycles, and the magnitude of the stress change during those cycles. For this reason, although an elevator has a large number of cycles, the amount of change during each one is relatively small (only the weight of the people. THese lift and launch cables go from being fully loaded to essentially no load during each of their cycles causes a great deal of wear and tear (fatigue) on the cables.
  2. I'm glad the attic has been renewed for another season. I have been eagerly awaiting seeing your hidden treasures.
  3. I really enjoyed all of Palahniuk's books. I am currently reading Alice in Wonderland. Having read a few other children's books recently and finding them to be much more than what I expected/remembered, I am a little dissapointed in this story thus far.
  4. Its seems like its a shame this is all for a RCT2 waterpark that will not have working attractions.
  5. I don't think you could ever get a cat to follow you around unless it decides you are worthy of its company. Having a golf kitty would definately make minigolf better at that course.
  6. While we were at the park (which was awesome), we asked about it being a B&M, and they said that while the rendering does show a B&M style coaster, that does not mean that is what they will install. I am sure whatever they pick, it will be a great addition. It surprises me that the coaster isnt intertwinded with more stuff. One of the things that I feel makes Grona Lund a gem is the layering and overlapping of the rides. The coaster seems to occupy pretty much the entire site.
  7. ^If it opens. The one thing that sold me to go back to Europe was Europa Park. I never really found the language barrier to be too bad. Most places the staff could help us stupid americans trying to figure out what to eat or they had picture that we could point to. THe one time I was baffled was at a rest area, thanfully Erik came along and translated for us.
  8. I stopped playing when I realised that it forces you to choose a friend to operate your rides etc and then notifies them that you have chosen them. I could not find a way to turn off this "feature."
  9. Thankyou for taking us along on your baking. I love pies. I love apple pies even more but would never have thought to add cheese to the pie. It looks delicous and picture perfect, quite an accomplishment for a first ever pie made from scratch. Congrats! Re: the half an apple more. I think you can never have enough apples in a pie and have been known to stuff the pie with an entire bag of them. Minus the bag of course.
  10. That's definately Dragon Khan. It's a really good coaster so I can see why they used it as a model when they built this AWESOME looking ride, but I doubt it really has 40 loops. I love the Onion.
  11. I'm still playing World of Warcraft. I'm slowly leveling up a few alts, one of which I fully intend to make my main. She is currently at level 75 out of 80 so not too much more leveling on her. I play alliance on Feathermoon incase anyone else is there (doubtful)
  12. ^^Wow, thats awful that they ridiculed you on the phone. I was actually at SFNE on the day of the Great Northeast Blackout. I was in the wave pool when it occurred and as such, didn't notice anything straight away. Everything shut down for about a half hour and then reopened. Springfield was apparently outside of the blacked out area. The worst experience I've had in a park would have to be Walibi Belgium. The park was overcrowded with rude teenagers. Continuous French Crunch. If it weren't for the great people I was with it would have been completely unbearable.
  13. http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=25.139741,55.188985&spn=0.001712,0.002411&t=h&z=19 It's there. If you were interested, here is how the slides are laid out. Blue are master blasters, red are gravity slides... I should have looked for the burj rather than trust that Google would locate the waterpark in the right place. THankyou for both the correct location and the slide layout. The place looks amazing.
  14. I would love to see an aerial shot of this place to see the layout of all those slides. It looks amazingly dense and all well themed. I checked google and unfortunately their satellite image shows only a dirt lot. Thanks for the report!
  15. Did I read correctly that two meals per day included will now be standard? That'd be a nice bonus.
  16. I noticed both of those things, but never though that the cube was sponsored, but now it makes more sense. As long as they dont get too obtrusive I dont really mind the product placements if it keeps good shows getting made.
  17. Sorry for a week of suckitude. Old Nalgene bottles apparently were made with a plastic that does baaad stuff. So if your bottle is old enough then you can take solice in its destruction. (maybe I should stop using mine... hmm) But anyway. Great report. Cute sandals even if they caused weird tanlines.
  18. I love where they went with Tracy. I admit, I have a straight crush on her. The carney's could be interesting.
  19. I'm in the same boat, but trying to like the food less. Or eat less of the food i like. Welcome to the site!
  20. The suspect list is Steve or Shane. There is not enough evidence to be sure, but I think it is the latter.
  21. I took an entire test without putting down my pencil and created the left hand rule of electricity and magnetism, which oddly comes up with answers completely opposite in direction to the correct ones. I didnt fail the test, but I came damn near close to it. Maybe not the toughest, but definately the most arduous class for me was Fundamentals of Structural Analysis which had weekly problem sets that took in excess of 30 hours even when working together.
  22. Great report, as always. I need to get to these Disney parks someday. RE: Miles. While I doubt our friend imbibed only *one* beverage. There are beer and wine glasses there, I suspect he may have only had one type of beverage. (miss you Miles)
  23. I have to agree with Elissa and Joe. This thing was crazy. I have never felt more sick after an ERT session. After seeing how many issues it created to unbalance the cars the way we did, I doubt that they would (or should) do it again. Seriously. The forces on it were astounding.
  24. Thanks for this info. Next time I'll be able to do this and not have a limb bitten off.
  25. ^It's likely a preexisting condition that caused her to faint. Dehydration or fear of dinosaurs?
