Toverland Discussion Thread
Airtime&Gravity replied to turbolaaf's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, I'm impressed with the level of theming that has been added. It's not often you see a swinging ship as well themed as this one, and I'm pleased to see that the theming in the rendering was what was actually built. It seems all to often that the renderings look better than the actual ride, so it's nice to see Toverland build the ride that was shown. Also, while fairly impressive, I can't imagine that the theming cost that much. Why can't American parks put a little more effort into making their rides look like this? -
If Kentucky Kingdom ever did relocate, I think a location around Carrolton would be better. It is roughly half way between Louisville and Cincinnati. It's also isn't far from Frankfort or Lexington. Then again, it won't happen, even though it would open up many possibilities. A location near Louisville would be good in that it is next to a major city, but a location near Carrolton puts it within easy driving distance of even more people. I hope the new management can turn the park around. Kentucky Kingdom looks like it used to be a nice park, sadly it seems to have gone downhill under Six Flags management. If the grounds are fixed up and some more flats brought in, Kentucky Kingdom can once again become a nice regional park. The park doesn't really have much room for a coaster, minus the hole left by Chang, so they might as well use their limited space to the best of their ability.

While it's looking unlikely, I wouldn't say the coaster has been canceled. It might have been, or park management is waiting to see what new corporate management wants. I'll believe the ride is canceled when I see a statement from the park or corporate office. I'll still ride Chang if it does end up getting built, but I'd rather see the money spent on something else. However, it's kind of an odd area for rides, so the only thing I can see going there is a water park expansion. I'm not a big water park person, but since it is always at capacity, a couple new slides could make a great addition. Sure the teenagers and thrill seekers will be upset, but is that really a bad thing?

^I would love that, and hey, Six Flags can continue the "Keeping the history alive" they have going on from this year. Sadly that won't happen. I'm glad it looks like Chang is no longer coming to the park. As has been said, the money can be better spent on the water park or flat rides, although, if flats are added, I hope they aren't the spin and puke kind. While Chang is a good coaster, Great America doesn't need it. What the park does need(besides more room) is more major flats or a Hurricane Harbor expansion. As much as I'd like to see a new major coaster added, the park doesn't need it. Now if we were to get a Mack launched coaster like was hoped for a couple pages back, I'll take back what I said and replace it with how the park needs it.

Photo TR: Jojo goes to Little Ammericka!
Airtime&Gravity replied to Jojo19799's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Nice trip report. Little Ammericka looks like a fun little park, slightly ghetto though, but it still looks like a good place to spend a couple of hours. I've wanted to make a stop on my way up to the Dells, but I've just never had the time. The park purchased the trains from the Lincoln Park Comet, but due to the coasters condition, they will have to rebuild it from scratch. I read that the purchase and reconstruction of Meteor was a test to see if they would be able to build a much larger coaster. -

Photo TR:Michigan adventure and funny billboards.
Airtime&Gravity replied to thrillrider's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Great trip report I liked Michigan's Adventure when I visited it last year. Even though it was pretty crowded, the lines moved fast for everything except Wildcat and Corkscrew. Shivering Timbers is actually my number one coaster, even beats El Toro, but if you visit, make sure to ride it later on after its been running for a while. My only complaint is that ehe park could could use some more flats. Sorry you didn't get to spend as long as you wanted, but it looks like you had fun in the time you had. -
Belantis Discussion Thread
Airtime&Gravity replied to GeorgeT's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I read the coaster was supposed to go to the F1-X park in Dubai, but after that park was canceled, Belantis was able to pick the ride up cheaply. I assume the ride was supposed to be given a raving theme, hence the all red paint job, but it does look odd. Hopefully it gets a new paint job later on though, since an all red coaster will look weird with what looks to be a jungle theme. -
Kingda Ka Coaster Question
Airtime&Gravity replied to sixflagsgadvguy1000's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't remember noticing much roughness when I rode Kingda Ka. However, I rode it in the front, so that might have something to do with it. As for your fear, I'd just get in line and stay there. I was the same way with Mr. Freeze and Kingda Ka. I had ridden V2 before, but I was still scared when I got in line for Mr. Freeze in 2006(It was closed when I went in 05). Luckily or unfortunately, for me, Mr. Freeze broke down so I didn't have to face my fears. I finally did ride Mr. Freeze in 2007, but by that time, I had ridden Kingda Ka. I was scared of Kingda Ka, but I decided to get in line and stay there. So just do the same and make the commitment to get in line and stay there. The ride is not as bad as it looks. The launch is great. The only other sit-down launched coasters I've ridden are Mr. Freeze and Greezed Lightning, and while Kingda Ka has by far the strongest launch, it isn't anything to be scared of. Since you've ridden Storm runner, you know what the launch is like. It has a strong initial launch, and the launch just continues to gain speed until you reach the top hat. It is a lot of fun, and it is nothing to be scared about. I can't tell you anything about the top hat though since I rode at night. If you are scared of heights, I'd recommend riding at night too so you don't get scared. The drop is great though, and the whole ride is just a lot of fun. I didn't find the ride too intense, and the ride is just one that is fun to ride. Getting off, I was wondering why I was so scared of it, since the actual ride is no where near as bad as it looks. -
Efteling Discussion Thread
Airtime&Gravity replied to Pepper's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is looking to be a lot better than just the family coaster I was expecting, and I'm really impressed with what I'm seeing so far. The theming looks like it will be really impressive, and if the dragon does end up being animatronic like it looks, then that will be even better. One thing I like about the ride itself is that while being family friendly in terms of height and length, it seems to have a layout suitable for a thrill ride. This definitely looks like a great ride that will be a big hit among all guests to Efteling. -
You'll need to apply online sometime in the winter, I believe in February. In your case, I'd write my address as the one you'll stay at, and if you get a call(for you, I'd list your cell number) for an interview, mention what your living conditions will be. Lately, it seems like a lot of older adults and less college students/teenagers have been hired due to the economy. Sadly, I forgot to do that, so I didn't get hired at the park.

Seems like another example of people looking to blame anyone but themselves. While more care could have possibly been taken to control the crowd, what did they expect to happen? If you are actively taking part in a rowdy crowd, you can't get upset if force is used to bring control. Now, if you weren't part of the crowd, or a victim was young, say under 13, you might have a case, but not if you are part of the problem. It's a shame that most of the public will probably take the side of the band and not Six Flags.

That is a really odd layout, it almost looks like something a child playing RCT would come up with. It looks like a lot of fun, and if it rides more like Powder Keg than the other Thrust Air coasters, I think this could end up being a very fun ride. It looks like a great ride, but I just don't like the layout as it looks too unprofessional to me.

No, although I have left park's early due to the temperature being really high though. Have you visited a theme park with exceptionally good real food(not including snacks)?

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
Airtime&Gravity replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The last coaster I rode was American Eagle (Red) yesterday. American Eagle has been running great this season with the ride being pretty smooth with lots of airtime. In my opinion, it is the second best ride in the park. -

Update for May 30, 2010 Notes: -Even though it was crowded, most people were in Hurricane Harbor, the rides in the ride park had waits of 30 minutes max -It was hot -A new Wii area has opened in Southwest Territory to replace the one taken over by Magiquest -It was really hot -The red side of American Eagle was finally running -They were allowing people to skip the pre-show in Dark Knight -I think it was due to me not feeling so well because of the heat, but Dark Knight was pretty unpleasant. The two main drops, while usually abrupt and rough, were really bad today. -Did I mention it was around 90*? -Viper was running great with lots of airtime, and it's great to see it back at its potential after a pretty mediocre 2009 season. -American Eagle, both sides, was running great. The ride, with the exception of the second half of the helix and the second helix, is pretty smooth, and there is a lot of airtime. In my opinion, American Eagle is the second best coaster in the park after Viper Little Dipper: -Little Dipper looks great, Six Flags did a great job rebuilding it, and it looks just like it did at Kiddieland -Little Dipper had a lot of mechanical problems with the breaks. Nearly every time I went by it, it was closed, or I heard the "Little Dipper is having technical difficulties" announcement -When Little Dipper broke down, ride operators and mechanics were quick to get it back up, often doing so in just a few minutes -Little Dipper looks like a huge hit with both families and surprisingly teens. Welcome to another SFGAM update Do you see the TPR members? Little Dipper's sign Inside the queue, there are some signs like this, just like you'll find on Tony Hawk's Big Spin and Evel Knievel Another sign Another sign Another sign in the queue A map Six Flags' parks A sign showing off other historic rides at Six Flags parks Little Dipper looks almost just like it did at Kiddieland Little Dipper stuck on the brake run...again Little Dipper Little Dipper again Another view of the station. I had to wait a little bit to get this shot due to Little Dipper breaking down. You can get some new views of B:TR from Little Dipper's queue Another new shot B:TR More B:TR Jo phone home Nathan is a cannibal For some reason, Jo doesn't seem to be enjoying this This will eventually become a new ropes course Viper is running great this season The new Wii area Signature shot King Chaos always attracts a crowd of spectators Daffy and Sylvester during the dance-off in Hometown Square This was probably a bad idea... Luckily, I just avoided getting soaked

Awesome pictures and trip report(s). I can't believe Walygator and Parc Asterix owned by the same company as there is a huge difference in terms of quality. I heard bad things about Walygator, but I didn't believe it much as all the photos I saw made it look decent, although I knew Anaconda was bad. Your report did a good job of showing how bad it really is, and it actually looks a lot like the Fuji-Q of France. Parc Asterix looks great on the other hand, and you did a good job of showing how good of a park it is.
