It's time for a 2010 picture recap
Airtime&Gravity replied to Hhappy's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Here are some of my favorite photos from 2010. Giant Wheel at Indiana Beach SFGAM overview Another overview Iron Wolf Tennessee Tornado Tennessee Tornado through the trees Thunderhed -
Here are some photos from the Fall Festival. Unfortunately, the park isn't staying open to Christmas Eve as planned, but they're still scheduled to reopen next year with more rides and attractions. Facebook Also, a paintball area will open up next year at the park, and driving by the park recently, it looks like it'll go where the old fire truck ride/put out the real fire ride was at the front of the park. ^...and even when one is added, it is not good enough. I see nothing wrong with this, and while I'd like another coaster added, there are a lot of other things I think would be better such as a Ferris Wheel, star flyer, dark ride, or even better food options. Parks that focus just/or mainly on thrill seekers have a lot of coasters, but it the end, they aren't the best parks. For a corporate, non Disney, park, SFGAM is one of the best around with a great ride and coaster selection. Plus, even if a coaster enthusiast/teenager decides not to visit since there isn't a major new coaster, there is probably a family ready to take their place. I still believe Chang would have been a failed attraction due to Iron Wolf's poor reputation, so a water park expansion, with two looping slides that Six Flags will probably make a major marketing point, is a much better replacement.

I say Brisbane-Gold Coast-Surfers Paradise. There are Wagamamas there (as well as the other Western brands), there is a large Asian population which matches the Asia photos (Singapore is a popular tourist destination for Australians), and Robb and Elissa have said they like to visit parks before they bring a TPR trip there. With TPR heading to Australia, it makes perfect sense for Robb and Elissa to visit the Brisbane-Gold Coast area since that's where the major Australian parks are.

Yeah, but Chimelong was a success. Baker Leisure Group's parks haven't. Well, they've been a success at showing how not to run a park, but I don't think that is what they wanted. In all seriousness though, this park has zero chance of succeeding. The fact that it'll just be thrill rides, the high cost of the intended rides, the saturated market, and because of whose behind it are more than enough reasons to see this park being a failure if it gets built. I doubt it will get built though, as it seems like only slightly more effort than the Save the Big Dipper campaign has been put in. People seem to expect a certain level of quality at Orlando parks, and this park just seems to lack any.

Lagoon Discussion Thread
Airtime&Gravity replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Looking at satellite images of the park, Lagoon doesn't seem to have much room unless they want to do something like Cliffs or Indiana Beach. Then, you have Lagoon being a family owned park, which limits the amount of capital they have available to spend. If you look at their coaster selection, which is pretty impressive(especially for a family owned park), you'll see a lot of clones. While these aren't appealing from an enthusiast perspective, they are great for business as they are cheaper than custom models, and they get people through the gates. While I think it would be great to see another major coaster get built, I could see a SLC or the rumored X-Car getting built, Lagoon seems to be doing great with what they are doing. -
"Neddy doesn't believe in insurance, he considers it a form of gambling' These people believe the Earth is 6000 years old, and if my Biblical time is correct, Noah's Ark took place 4000 years ago. Yeah, this has "Epic Fail" written all over it, but I thought the same thing back when the Creation Museum was being built. I know there are those people that truly believe in young earth creationism, but since I'm not one of those (I'm a liberal barely practicing Catholic), I just find the whole concept of building a park around it funny. Unlike if I were to visit a place like Magic Kingdom where I'd have fun being drawn into the story, here, if I were to visit, I'd feel my IQ dropping(although I would still be smarter than the other people there). I thought the investors would have learned after the failure of Holy Land that people don't go to religion theme park. Edit: Wait, this won't even have any rides? Then why the hell are they building a "theme park"? Wouldn't it be cheaper and less risky to just open it as a new "exhibit" at the Creation Museum? I understand those that visit will be very devout, apart from those going to the place for laughs, but why do they think people will go to this?

Knoebels Discussion Thread
Airtime&Gravity replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm sure it'll be easier to build new trains for Black Diamond than Flying Turns. With Black Diamond, they have something to go off of to build the trains, it isn't like the trains will be the first of their type in 40-50 years. Plus, the Black Diamond trains will not be exposed to the forces that Flying Turns' trains will. I'm really amazed at how fast this ride is going up, as it seems like they just started construction, but then again, the Flying Turns disaster has probably skewed my thoughts on how fast Knoebels can build a new coaster. I can't wait to see the finished coaster, and hopefully it lives up to all the hype. The ride itself doesn't seem that great, but given the theme(and that its at Knoebels) I'm sure it'll turn out great. -
The park is in Iraqi Kurdistan, which is pretty stable, especially when compared to the rest of the country. It's good to hear that Drayton Manor fixed G-Force, and hopefully this one runs just as well. I know that isn't saying much, but considering the rest of Iraq's coaster offerings, or lack thereof, even if it ran as G-Force did in 06, this is still a significant step up in the country's coaster offerings. There aren't many coasters over there, so I'm sure riders are happy they received this, even if it can be a torture device. Hopefully this signals the use of more coasters opening with similar elements, whether it be another clone, a launched X-Car, or with the traditional sky loop. The elements on this ride are unique, even for a X-car, and I think it'd be great to see more rides with them open if the problems can be fixed.

The Best Woodie under 75 feet Tall
Airtime&Gravity replied to MagnumForce's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Easily Cornball Express, that ride is awesome, and it's amazing that it is only 55ft tall. It's really a perfect example of bigger doesn't mean better. Lost Coaster is also pretty good, although it is more for the WTF ride it gives. It is a fun ride, and it does things a wooden coaster, well any coaster, just shouldn't do. -

Iraq suddenly makes sense now... So four soldiers, (and by four I mean the budget didn't allow for more) but three people will defeat the dinosaurs? Oh wait, only using two soldiers and a sheriff won't work either... -

What do you mean? This amazing example of cinematography is totally original. It is truly a leader and innovator in plot, acting, and CGI. -

American Eagle would be great with the track topper, although, even just placing it in the helices, especially the end of the first one, would be an improvement. American Eagle is always being retracked it seems, so this would be very cost effective in the long run. Shivering Timbers was aggressive, but reridable, like American Eagle, but I can still see where the track topper would also help. The ride is can be great, but it can still be bad(although only 1 out of like 5 of my rides on it would qualify as bad), so it would be an improvement if it meant all rides were great. Plus, the ending helix needed some work. Voyage - I know the Timberliners are supposed to help, but if they don't, Voyage would be another great candidate for the track topper. I've heard it can be aggressive, plus maybe I just rode it on a bad day, but Voyage ranks as one of, if not the roughest coaster I've ridden. It was just not fun to ride, and with each ride(I rode twice), I couldn't wait to get off. Boss would also be great with it. It has a great layout, but unless you sit in the front, it is a very rough ride. I think a whole Texas Giant makeover would be necessary to fix it, as a retracking, even with the track topper, doesn't seem like it would be enough IMO. If the ride is able to run at its full potential, I believe that it could be a top 20, maybe even top 10, coaster in Mitch's poll. Edit: V I forgot about that.
