Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
Airtime&Gravity replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If it were truly important, people would have visited it, and it would still be open Well here you are correct, Big Dipper does have an importance, it will make great firewood for the cold Ohio winters. This is great, I can't believe I missed this topic. Had there been a plan at the time of purpose, I might have wished those involved luck, but I can't stop laughing at what is being done. Why the hell would you buy a wooden coaster that's been SBNO for a couple years(evidence that no one wants it), and then buy it without any kind of plan? -

Wow, these trains look great, especially since I was expecting something like what was on Twisted Twins with horns. The new Texas Giant is shaping up to be a great coaster, and it wouldn't surprise me if it ends up being ranked as one of the best in the country. Every update shows this coaster getting better and better, and hopefully if the new track system works, we will see other parks do something similar in the not to distant future.

Best Looking Park From A Distance
Airtime&Gravity replied to RollerC's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Indiana Beach looks great from across the lake, although this is the only time as you can't see the park when you drive up to it until you are already there. Dollywood is also nice in the fact that you can't see the park, even when you are at the entrance, and SFGAM is also cool as the park goes right up to the Tri-State(especially true for American Eagle). Best Theme Park Food
Airtime&Gravity replied to ChrisZer0's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Dollywood easily has the best food of any park I remember. Granny Olge's ham dinner was really good, and of course the cinnamon bread from the Grist Mill is not to be missed. Edit: I don't know how I forgot about Holiday World, but they too have great food. I had the chicken and dumplings from the Plymouth Cafe, and while I don't know it it topped my meal at Dollywood a few days earlier, it was still really good. It was cheap too, and it amazes me that corporate parks don't serve similar food. I'm sure Holiday World still made a profit off of my meal, and I'd easily pay more for a similar meal at a corporate park. The quality was great, it was affordable(especially when it costs me $7-$8 to get some cheese bread and a soda at SFGAM), and if other parks did it, I'm sure it would be welcomed by the GP. The same goes for my Dollywood meal. -
Worst Coaster Ever?
Airtime&Gravity replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know many will probably disagree, but I'd have to rank Voyage as one of the worst coasters. With the exception of the first three hills, the ride was just very rough and not enjoyable at all. I'd even go so far as to say that it might be as rough or rougher than Predator. It was just a very unpleasant ride, and I'd say that it too would rank as one of my least favorite coasters. To be fair, it was hot as hell when I went, so that would explain some of the roughness, but even when it is running well, Voyage is supposed to still throw you around to my understanding. I'd love to ride it with the new trains, but until then, I think I'll pass. I don't know if I'd rank it below Predator, but it is certainly down there on my list. Although, Predator is now supposed to be running well/better now with Voyage's train... T2 and Typhoon are still the worst steel coasters I've ridden, and I think it'll be hard for a coaster to be rougher than either of those where. -
The only reason I can see that rumor being true is if Six Flags intends to build a permanent one in the future, and if this is just to see if a Star Flyer and a yo yo can operate in the same park. Six Flags has placed attractions in parks with other similar rides, and if this is just temporary, it might just be to see if a Star Flyer can draw the intended crowds. If it does end up a success, I can see many more opening up at other Six Flags parks. It is a lot easier on the finances to remove a temporary ride at one park than it is to build multiple permanent rides that don't draw anyone in.

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
Airtime&Gravity replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The last coaster I rode was Screamin Eagle earlier today. Sadly it didn't have any airtime(today and yesterday), but it is still a fun coaster. The one good thing about my ride today, besides the coaster still being fun, was that I was able to ride before the crowds hit the coaster which caused me to leave early due to the long waits and my limited time available today. Photo taken by me when I visited the park last night. -
The majority who would comment on SFNE's Facebook are probably teens and young adults who will complain about anything added that isn't a giant coaster, and even then, they'll still complain. For example, when Chang track showed up at SFGAM, people on Facebook complained, then after Chang was canceled, the same people complained again. You shouldn't base public opinion of a theme parks upcoming attraction off of a Facebook page. The posts generally aren't well thought out, and those complaining will probably still visit the park next year. Face it, and it isn't just in this topic, Six Flags can't just build roller coasters, and you(those complaining) can't get upset and think parks should base their additions around the wants of coaster enthusiasts and other thrill seekers. This means not complaining if your home park has added family attractions recently or doesn't add thrill rides every or every other year. End rant It is nice to see the rides that could be moved by Six Flags being sent to other parks, and it is nice that this will be sent to a park that hasn't added a new coaster in a while, although SFA is probably more deserving. It'll be interesting to see what Six Flags does with this ride, and hopefully Six Flags puts some effort in to it instead of just placing it in an open area. With Six Flags now out of bankruptcy and a new change in management, I hope they now have the ability to theme rides with something other than signs. Also, Road Runner Express was pretty rough when I rode it, so hopefully Six Flags works on that.

While I'm not a huge water park fan, I'm glad to see this long rumored project finally getting built. While not terribly huge, it is still probably enough attractions to significantly increase the water park's capacity. A speed slide was needed at the park, and the activity pool and surf simulators will also make great attractions. I can't wait to see how it turns out, and hopefully the expansion matches what is already there in terms of theming as Hurricane Harbor is one of the nicest places in the park.

^A place down in Utica, Illinois called Grizzly Jacks purchased a bunch of rides from the old park with the intention of building a new park next to the resort. I haven't heard anything about it since, so it wouldn't surprise me if they resold the rides to the new owners. That is assuming these rides will be those that were once at Santa's Village.

Underrated Coasters?
Airtime&Gravity replied to Yero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Shivering Timbers - I know it was ranked highly a while ago, but since then it seems like little has been heard about it. It is a great ride that seems to get overlooked when compared to newer wooden coasters, but then again, being in the middle of nowhere might be part of the reason so little is heard about it. Tennessee Tornado - I had heard that this coaster was starting to show its age, but I found it to be very smooth. It seems to get overlooked when compared to Mystery Mine and Thunderhead, but Tennessee Tornado is still a great ride. It is very smooth, the inversions are great, and the hill at the end had a lot more airtime than I expected. Wolverine Wildcat - While not as good as Shivering Timbers, this is still underrated. It doesn't fit the Dinn stereotype as it is actually very smooth, and there are even some moments of airtime. It isn't a great ride, but it definitely isn't the worst, especially when you consider how bad it could be. Lakeside's Cyclone - Sure it is old and rough, but this ride still packs a punch. The ride never lets up, and the intensity and airtime was a surprise when I rode it. -
Most Intense Rides You've Been On
Airtime&Gravity replied to StrataKirby's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
El Toro - While not the most intense airtime moment I've experienced, it ranks up there, and the airtime is throughout the entire ride, unlike my more intense airtime moments which are just at one point in the ride. Voyage - While it was extremely rough when I rode it, the ride was still very intense and aggressive, especially the two turnarounds. Nitro - The helix is probably the most intense moment on any ride I've ridden B:TR(SFGAM) - no explanation needed -
^People are already complaining about it being a water slide, but of course that is to be expected, especially at Facebook. While I'd have preferred a new thrill ride or a giant Ferris wheel like the park president seemed to want, a water park expansion, even if just one slide, will still be a great addition to the park. The water park always fills to capacity, and it seemed to be missing another signature slide. While it has a great selection of slides, I am surprised that it doesn't have a speed slide. So far, I've read rumors about it being a simple speed slide, to a deluge type ride, to even a pair of those new looping water slides. Any of those would be a great addition to Hurricane Harbor, and any one would be a signature slide it needs. Also, how would 130ft compare to other speed slides? There seems to be a sizable gap between 130 and foot, which makes me think it might say 1300 foot (long hidden). If true, I'd expect something closer to Deluge.

^Your last visit was probably just luck. Lately, and especially noticeable this year, Six Flags Great America has been really crowded. Great America doesn't have the capacity to handle the crowds it gets, and while it is great financial wise for the park, it means guests will have to wait in long lines. Had the whole Entertainment Village proposal been built, Great America would be in better shape to handle the crowds it gets, but it now has to make do with its limited land. For those who don't know, the Entertainment Village would have been built across the tri-state and include(to what I understand) retail, hotel, conference center, parking garage, a water park, and possibly even the corporate office/headquarters. Unfortunately, Six Flags was unable to get the permits that would have been necessary to build the bridges or tunnels to get guests between the two sides of the park.
