  1. ^Oh no, you only have three parks instead of four within a two hour drive, you have it so tough... I thought Kentucky Kingdom was a decent park, but it could use some work, especially in the flat ride selection. Hopefully the new/old owners can fix that problem. I also don't see what's wrong with starting small. It will take time to get Kentucky Kingdom back to what it once was, so give it some time. I have a lot of confidence that the owners will be able to turn the park back to what it once was. Only then do I see a new coaster being added.
  2. A ropes course is coming to the site where the rock wall was. SFGAM's Facebook
  3. According to SFGAM world, Little Dipper is 36" with an adult and 42" without one. Six Flags has made some questionable decisions over the past few years, but like Robb said, the parks are more enjoyable. With the company having emerged from bankruptcy, it'll be interesting to see what happens. They still have a ways to go at some parks, but overall, they seem to be doing much better. I still question why SFGAM is getting Chang, but I can see this helping the park in the long run. I hope it ends up being a good addition for the park, but given Iron Wolf's reputation, I fear that this will become a failed attraction. I hope I'm wrong, but I think people will pass on the ride due to Iron Wolf.
  4. ^Your idea, while aesthetically is better, would have taken out a lot of parking spaces, and it might not work due to the lazy river. The location the park chose takes out a few rows, but most of the parking lot taken in just open pavement serving no real purpose. I'm indifferent to receiving Chang. It's a good coaster, and while I'm glad that the park will be getting a major thrill coaster, I just don't think it is the right ride for SFGAM.
  5. According to SFGAM world, the Zoning Board approved the construction of the ride. The representative from the park said that it will be a relocated ride, has a large footprint, is made by B&M, and is a stand-up coaster. So I guess Iron Love will soon be leaving the park instead of receiving some "new" trains. I'm a little disappointed that Chang is being rebuilt at SFGAM, and while it is a great ride, I would have liked to see an expansion in flats or the water park. I'll still ride it, it'll be one of the park's best coasters, but I just have to wonder how the park will get people to ride it given Iron Wolf's reputation. Little Dipper is looking great, and I'm surprised they have the lettering on the station. When I was there Saturday, it didn't look like there was any place to wire it to. Six Flags did a good job of rebuilding it, and it should be very popular with families.
  6. According to Screamscape, Chang might fit the height requirement, and that the 154ft height might have jut been some padding done by Kentucky Kingdom to improve the coaster's height above Mantis. Also, Chang's footers are fairly tall, so if the supports are at ground level, the 150ft height might fit. Here are some photos of the tall footers:
  7. Update for May 22, 2010 Today the park was packed with school and choir groups, so lines were long for nearly everything. At around 3, nearly every coaster had an hour wait, with some, including American Eagle, having waits of over 90 minutes. Even with the crowds, the staff still worked had with efficient operations, although running the red side of Eagle would have been nice, and the ride ops looked for riders to fill up a train. Also: -Whizzer ran three trains, something I don't remember happening in a while, if ever -American Eagle was awesome. It was fairly smooth, except for the second half of the helix, and it had plenty of airtime. -Viper also ran really well -Even for being pretty crowded, the park staff managed to keep the park very clean Little Dipper is coming along nicely, and it looks like they should be able to open next week. I was skeptical on my last visit a month ago, but the park has pulled it off. It was even noticeable the amount of work they got done while I was there, such as putting up railings in the queue. The ride is looking great, although it doesn't look like it'll have the neon lights. Hopefully I'm proven wrong on this too though. So even though it was a fairly hot and crowded day, I still had a great time Now onto the photos: Little Dipper Little Dipper Little Dipper Little Dipper Little Dipper Viper V2 Overview Superman Demon's clown car train Revolution Viper Raging Bull Viper Overview
  8. Wow, and I thought no one went to night games at the Cell. I'm a White Sox fan (I'll still cheer for the Cubs though), and they aren't having a good season. The team has a lot of talent, they just can't do anything.
  9. Online Songs - Blink 182
  10. This is one of the reasons I'm against adding thrill rides every year or to. While they are a lot of fun, people begin to expect them, and they get upset if one isn't added every other season. Parks that seem to stick to schedules like that don't seem to be that great, but if thrill rides are added only every once in a while with a lot of family rides added between those times, the parks seem to be a lot better in terms of quality. I'd also be skeptical about who in the GP is complaining. I'm sure families aren't complaining about the fact that a large coaster isn't being added, but rather it's the teenagers and thrill seekers who only care about the next coaster Cedar Point builds.
  11. Well, you have to give him credit for not giving up, even though he should have a long time ago. A park in Mississippi is, in my opinion, worse than reopening one in New Orleans. Mississippi just doesn't have the population to support a park, and tourists who visit Mississippi don't go there to visit an amusement park. I know Jackson is a big town, but unless they tried to market the park to residents of Alabama, Tennessee, and Louisiana, I don't see how they will get enough people to visit. Even then it will be really difficult to find enough people to come visit. If the park was small, maybe the size of Alabama Adventure at most, I might be able to see it have a chance of surviving, but even if it's that big, I see it struggling like Alabama Adventure did. Then again, I think this is just another pipe dream of Danny's that will never see the light of day.
  12. Mr. Freeze's inverted top hat - it's not very intense, but it is scary with being upside down so high in the air with only a lap bar holding you in Viper's double down drop - a great moment of airtime Nitro's helix - very very intense Cobra rolls Zero-G rolls Vertical loops - so simple, but still a lot of fun Not a single element, but El Toro's finale with the highly banked turns and filled with airtime is awesome Shivering Timbers helix - a fast helix, and although nowhere near as intense as Nitro's, it is still a lot of fun

  15. Not sure if this should go here or the games section: Link Why would someone think this is a good idea? Then again, movies are being made on Where's Waldo and Candyland.

  17. I wonder if the kid has a name from a character in a certain vampire movie?!?! Maybe, but in that case, wouldn't the article be about the kid beating up his mom? As others have said before on the site, prospective parents really need to take an IQ test. Seriously, if the boy did anything wrong(don't know he did), why couldn't she just give him "the look"?

  21. My (limited) list: 1. Double Shot at Indiana Beach - my first S&S tower, and while not very tall, it is still intense, and the initial launch is still scary 2. Giant Drop 3. Hellevator/Superman: Tower of Power - my first drop tower Sadly Six Flags St. Louis' Superman: Tower of Power has been closed the times I've visited. It's a small list, but drop towers still scare me, although I have fun when I ride them.
  22. Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down
  23. I've only ridden Iron Wolf and Chang, so Chang is easily my top pick. While I like Iron Wolf's layout more, Chang was the far more enjoyable ride. If Iron Wolf was smoother, it might be my number one due to how intense it is, but Chang is currently superior due to it's smoothness and size. I'm not a fan of bigger is better, but in the Case of Chang, it is currently true. The only thing I didn't like about Chang was its location which was an overgrown field and the worst station I've seen, although Iron Wolf's isn't much better.
  24. While El Toro is a great ride, I'm going to go with Shivering Timbers. El Toro had the most intense airtime, but Shivering Timbers seemed to deliver the most. From the first drop to the final helix, I spent little time in my seat. I'm sure one reason Shivering Timbers beats El Toro is because of the lap bar like RollingRunner said. The PTC trains just don't staple you in like Intamin's trains do, although Intamin's trains are still comfortable. Although, front row on Cyclone at Lakeside in Denver has the single most intense airtime moment I've experienced which happened on the first drop.
