Andy Shine's Quiz Time
Airtime&Gravity replied to Simon Baynham's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
9/20 for me. However, I've never been to a Legoland, nor was I that into Legos as a kid. -
...nothing a trim brake won't solve. With what's going on, it seems like the end of the park, and while it's sad to see a park, especially a major one, close, it seems like Great America has been on borrowed time for a while. I'd like to see the park thrive, but with a lack of investment, complaining neighbors, and probably a stadium on the way, there doesn't seem to be a future for the park. Cedar Fair seemed to do a decent job when they parted out Geauga Lake, so hopefully most of the rides at Great America will find new homes through the chain.

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
Airtime&Gravity replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Maybe it will be themed to The Godfather... Looking at the area for the lift and markers, there doesn't appear to be much room, especially for a hyper coaster. So if it is a hyper, I'm positive that the ride will take up more space. That being said, it might not be a hyper at all, and if that is all the space to be used, then maybe Hersheypark is building the first custom Mega-lite. -
On tap for 2011
Airtime&Gravity replied to HowieP's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Depending on what happens, I might end up having a really good year. The only park confirmed so far is Six Flags Great America, but I might also visit Six Flags St. Louis, Michigan's Adventure, Mt. Olympus, Timber Falls, and Holiday World. The only other park(s) I'll visit will be any near where I go on vacation in the summer. There is also the chance that I'll visit Disney World in the winter, although this trip might be early 2012. So it's either going to be a great year, or it's going to be a pretty bad year. -

Suprising Soakings
Airtime&Gravity replied to Kingsislandfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The biggest soaking I've gotten is on the portable log flume that is brought in to Taste of Chicago. It doesn't look like much, but you can even be soaked walking up to the station if you are happen to be walking by when a boat goes down the drop. The only ride that came close was Splashwater Falls at Six Flags Great America. I usually don't get too wet when I ride water rides, being in splash areas is a different story, so no other rides stand out in my memory like Splashwater Falls or the flume at The Taste. Even Pilgrims Plunge didn't get me that wet(I was in the third row I believe), but everyone in the rows in front of or behind me were soaked. -

The Jacksonville, Florida Civic Council wants an amusement park to be built in the city's downtown area. Link -
Bugs Bunny National Park seemed to be pretty popular this past season with the opening of Little Dipper, so I wouldn't count on it. I know the go-karts bring in money, but it wouldn't make sense to remove a popular and recently reopened section of the park for an up-charge attraction. It just doesn't make sense, especially when there is a large open area on the other side of the park.

McDonald's truly was at fault in that case. At the time, cup holders weren't common in cars as people didn't eat in them like today. To make up for this, McDonald's made the coffee hotter than normal so that it would still be hot when the person got to their destination. Now, some fault was still with the woman though as most people put their food on the floor, not in their lap. While this seems like another ridiculous case, if Disney did heat the nacho cheese hotter than normal, then they are, at least partially, at fault. The story I read about the incident earlier showed the kid, and the blister was really bad. Now the kids injuries are nowhere near as bad as the woman in the McDonald's case, but with the current information, Disney can still be at fault.

Photo TR: Robb & Elissa go to Dubai!
Airtime&Gravity replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The Maybach costs at least 900000 euros. Link It's amazing how much money is over there even in a poor economy. Great trip report, and it's amazing what there is to do over there. Ski Dubai looks great, and its cool to see Dubai pushing the architectural limits by building what seems to be impossible. -

Photo TR: Robb & Elissa go to Dubai!
Airtime&Gravity replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, it's even worse than Santa's Village's Typhoon? As you know first hand, I guess it isn't a surprise they're made by the same company. Great photos and trip report so far, and it's a shame so many of the coasters and parks have to be so bad, although there is a lot of other stuff to do in the UAE. While the parks and coasters, for the most part, don't look that great, the UAE looks like a great place to visit. It's too bad Dubai ran out of money and few, if any, of the proposed parks will ever get built. -
I haven't seen any new coaster books, but I'd recommend Walt Disney Imagineering: A Behind the Dreams Look at Making the Magic Real which came out last year. Amazon

This is looking a lot better than what I was expecting, and, despite being a "family" coaster, it looks like a great ride. As has been said, as long as the theming is closer to what's in the picture, and not like Atlantis, this should be a great ride. This coaster looks like it will just be a lot of fun to ride, and it just goes to show, that bigger is not necessarily better.

17/20 - Not bad, but I guessed on probably around 7 of them. -

Wow, this ship looks a lot better than I was expecting. I thought it would be very family friendly and kid oriented, but there looks like a lot for adults to do to. The ship looks great, and it shows how you can have a cruise ship that has a lot for kids to do, let alone up to Disney standards in this category, yet still have luxurious amenities for adults. It looks like a fun ship with something for everyone.

Walibi Holland Discussion Thread
Airtime&Gravity replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
While I like that they are doing something different, this whole project seems really strange. While I like seeing all the marketing they are doing, it's for a ride that most visitors have probably ridden (whether at this park or another). I am interested to see how the park ties the battle of the bands/music theme in besides the on-board audio, and it's great that they are investing in a long SBNO ride, when they could have just as easily removed it. Although, isn't a Boomerang a little too short of a ride to have on-board audio in the first place? I hope it works out well, but as of right now, I don't see the reasoning behind it. I see that it is part of a music themed area, but the on-board audio seems a little pointless IMO. -

I too see this as the beginning of the end for CGA, as little capital is being invested, and red tape/complaints prevent any that would from being built. As for Invertigo, Valleyfair seems like a great choice. Although, with this announcement and removal so sudden, would it be possible for it to open say mid-season? I'd be surprised if it would open this year, but how long does it take to build a ride like this(red tape not included)? Also, if this can indeed be built fast, didn't Michigan's Adventure say that they had another announcement when they announced the water play structure? I know they just added Thunderhawk a couple years ago, but with the big attendance increase that was generated, could it be possible that Invertigo could be heading up to Michigan? Either way, the future doesn't look to bright for CGA, and within a couple years, I believer we will see this park being parted out to the other Cedar Fair parks.
