  1. I suddenly feel an urge to increase the number of emails I send to Dan and the number of entries into the Game Exchange contests. All part of Robb's plan? If so its working quite well!
  2. I can't open Bronco due to some missing object ID, but it looks nice. Any custom scenery or anything else that might be causing that?
  3. Here's my submission for this week: Quetzalcoatl No theming aside from the station, but its the coaster that counts, right? Take a flight on this mythical winged creature if you dare.
  4. Congrats! I started a submission on Saturday but couldn't get around to finishing all the theming so I didn't wind up submitting it. Probably give this one a try though.
  5. Conveniently enough I missed the last contest since I thought it was due midnight on the midnight of whatever day it was due and not the night before. Either way here's my submission for this week's contest. Wildfire Its a terrain Arrow Looper with some great moments of air.
  6. That damn bug with the AI screwed me over at the end. I was crapping money and had all the people and the rating and then 78 lost depressed people decided they wanted to leave. Also people love congregating in the most crowded part of the park and then complaining about the crowds. Oh well, it was fun until that last bit.
  7. What time zone is midnight measured from? I think I should make it considering I'm in year 5 but it might come close with any hiccups with the upload process.
  8. If only I had realized this earlier! I just found my RCT disc and installed it after not playing for 6 some odd years. Might give it a go and see if I can get past it in the next 24 hours, but definitely in for the next one.
  9. Since I'm a recent bay area transplant and haven't been able to go to a TPR event due to lack of funds and or time, this works perfectly! I'd love to go. I wouldn't need transportation or lodging due to the being a local.
  10. I think the whole claim that they have the first beyond vertical drop is meant to be read as the first beyond vertical drop on a coaster with three inversions in the US. I think the other Eurofighters and Macerick both have 2 inversions and Fahrenheit has something like 6. Horray for marketing getting creative.
  11. Whats the little track thing with the red edges in the third to last picture? Looks fun whatever it is. Great pictures!
  12. I'd like to see some more pictures of the base of the ride and how that was connected because that seems like the major problem. From the video grabs on the first post it looks like the anchorage of the base of the tower was insufficient as the one article claims. The counterweight actually shouldn't be much of a concern since the only thing which is changing by the position of the car is the amount of bending on the main support and base, and you should be able to determine that and design for it very easily. Normally I'd expect to see the bolts on the base getting embedded in concrete, but its hard to tell from the pictures how that was connected, though it looks like it was just two steel plates bolted together. Light poles on freeways and stadiums have a habit of collapsing due to fatigue from repeated exposure to wind load. I'm wondering if this was something similar, where the connection at the bottom wasn't designed to go through enough load cycles to get to the design life of the ride. As far as damage to the yellow and red arms that can probably be explained from falling 100+ feet. I'd be interested to see more pictures of the base of the ride to see how it was connected and a formal report would be good, but thats my stab at the problem. Thats an absolutely horrific accident and my regards go out to the friends and family of those involved.
  13. But Paul the octopus can't be wrong! I'm going for Spain since their defense looks a bit stronger but it looks like if you can stop David Villa, you can stop Spain. I'm happy with either winning especially since neither has won before and they're both very talented.
  14. Deep fried candy bar because I've had a deep fried snickers and something about the frying makes them better. The bacon wrapped, beef surrounded, cheese topped, deep fried hot dog sounds a bit too over the top for me. I value my life a little more than that.
  15. Thou shall not worship idols perhaps, though you think seeing as its the same religion that wouldn't follow exactly. Perhaps we can go Jerry Falwell on it and try and see this as a sign that God is angry at...maybe all the anti-gay people or the pedophiles. Unfortunately that article says that they will be replacing it so there goes another $700,000 that could have been spent in the community or on helping the hungry or something actually productive.
  16. Find a job. If anyone knows any structural engineering firms who need a recent masters graduate, feel free to pm / email me. Only slightly kidding.
  17. I tried searching for other topics for funny onride pictures since this isn't me and it most definitely violates park policies etc., but it was good for a laugh. Extreme Jenga.
  18. I don't even know where they'll go with this. Some weird Truman Show like thing where people are in this theme park completely controlled by others they don't even know about? I hope there's a giant floating claw that drags people off and drowns them. Actually come to think of it this could be an incredibly dark movie.
  19. I like what I'm seeing so far. There was a video posted somewhere that a guy filmed from his balcony staying at one of the Disneyland resort hotels. The show was a lot longer than I thought a dancing fountains show could ever be, but I don't think the jazz reel they just released shows the best of what I saw from that. There seemed to be a good solid minute or two of the entire lake turning into fire from what that video showed. They might have to put a splash zone and no one with excessive hair product zone for that first row. Either way it looks good from what I can see, but it'll probably impact you differently up close and personal.
  20. The World Cup might not be #1 in the states but I guarantee you it blows the crap out of any other sports competition aside from maybe the Olympics when you look at the world audience. Granted it might not be fair to compare those because most countries could probably care less if West Virginia beats Duke or who wins the Super Bowl. There might also be something to a numbers game for those half time commercials. If you've ever seen a Champions League game, which are sponsored by Heineken, their ads are on multiple times every commercial break and you have a huge audience that has to watch those few commercials. I wouldn't be shocked if those rights were amazingly expensive and if you wound up reaching a similar amount of people, there's just less commercials. As for how exciting the games can be, I agree its weird for something to end as a tie, but outside of the group stages, that stops. I was in Germany for the 2002 world cup during the US v. Germany game and for the final against Brazil. An absolutely awesome atmosphere especially for the final. Can't wait for school to be over and for the world cup to start. No idea who is really going to win this year. I thought England was going to have a pretty decent shot at it but now there are a lot of injuries and people sleeping with other player's wives, so I have no idea how far they'll go.
  21. I think an upside down launch would be doable. Odds are if you do that you're going to go with a rolling launch like Formule x has, but just inverted. You'd probably have the track sloping upward the entire launch so if for some odd reason there's an e-stop or some other problem it has the momentum to roll back down the launch track, through the half heartline spin and come to some area where the cars are at least upright. I've never been in an X-car but it would be weird to get that dangling out of your seat feeling while getting launched. Cool idea and I hope some more information is uncovered sometime soon.
  22. It seems really weird to put bolts on the top of the flange like that. Any chance of the car sliding over and catching those would make for a very interesting accident. While I'm sure its safe and they've calculated all the possible paths of the train, I'd still feel a lot better if they put them on the sides or on the web somehow.
  23. Yeah that or something weird happened in a wave pool. Its hard to think of too many things that can happen to that many people in a waterpark.
  24. It looks like it has more air than the typical B&M, though I haven't been on their latest creations. The newest I've been on was Goliath at SFOG and it had floater air for the most part but some of those hills seem to have more pop to them. Somehow the real car's sponsor logos look a little more spread out to me, giving it a less cheap feel to it but the coaster doesn't have many other options to try and recreate that effect. Can't wait to see the POV for Intimidator-305.
