Embarrassed of parks...
WFChris replied to outbackjack's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Of course I do! I really have no idea what most of what the gear heads are saying. But in the meantime, I think if you project confidence in your hobby, they will appreciate your appreciation for it, regardless of how much they actually care. If you are embarrassed by it and project that embarrassment, they can sniff that out and will just give you sh*t for it. Have some pride!!! -
Starwood. For you younguns, Starwood encompasses Westin, Sheraton, 4 Points, "W", St Regis, and a few others.

Embarrassed of parks...

^Hey, I bet your friends nerd out about something THEY are familiar with. Maybe basketball? Baseball? Cars? I know if I say 'put it in 4th gear or whatever,' my car junkie friends spare no time in explaining what each and every gear does. Just because what we love is not popular does not mean you need to be ashamed of it. I think my friends enjoy it when I fix 'twisty loop-de-loop' with 'immelman.' -

My boyfriend thinks its weird that I can chronicle my life by what year coasters opened at SFMM. Other than that, my friends definitely take advantage of my knowledge and don't give me any negative feedback. Look, most of us on this planet are nerds in some way or another; harness the nerdiness and make the best of it! I consider myself 'cool' and I love theme parks and my favorite sport is disc golf. -
Just "add another maintenance team?" I'm sure that's an option because I'm sure the park has $250,000 sitting around to pay out in annual wages so they can run an extra train on a coaster. I don't think you kids understand how much these crews cost. While I wouldn't say they are 'cutting a corner' not having a second team (since we can assume they have always just had one in the first place), I would think it is more of a possibility of adding one person to the team instead of creating a whole new one. You can't just say *poof* and have the world fix itself. Sure, Disney, Busch, and Universal can pull it off. Does SFMM have a movie studio, television network, record label, or animation studio attached to it? It is expected that things at SF and CF parks are on a more constrained budget, and I think the team they have does a great job with the resources they have.

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

This is definitely one of the better 'common sense' announcements I have read so far. If you build a wildly successful ride, build another similar one! It just makes total sense to me, that way you can disperse the crowds onto each of the rides, and really make the original ride almost equally as marketable as the previous year. Good job Holiday World! -

Are you sure that you cannot get your deposit back for something happening in 15 MONTHS? I work in the industry and have never heard of such a large fee for canceling! -

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

^I agree with the others about the hours being dependent on staffing hours. Notice that it is conveniently placed in a 7 hour period? That is a full work day with a half hour of prep and a half hour of finalizing. I also want to go ahead and say that they are probably reluctant to add it to Invertigo due to fears of adding a line-slowing system to a ride that perpetually runs a single train. Yes, it works at other parks, but CF needs to see how it works in their own system before they add new or different rides to the program. -

I'm actually employed this year so hopefully I can make it!!! -
I'll go ahead and support the Mooseburger Lodge bandwagon. I always end up eating my dinner there, it's a great opportunity to sit down and relax in air conditioning, and the prices are only $1 or $2 more than other food venues in the park. With the free refills and the relaxed environment, it's worth it. The prices to me are no different than a trip out to Islands or some other sit-down burger joint. I have also found that you can sometimes sneak in a ride on Log Jammer while you are waiting for your table The Panda Express was $10 last time I was there, which is only $2 more than their mall locations, and the food is standard. That works too, but the sitting area kind of sucks. I really feel like most people are complaining about the food service area across from Gold Rusher. I agree if that's the case; that place has always been a mess. You wait in a long CRAWLING line in the hot sun, to get up to the counter where one employee is taking the order, giving out change, and grabbing the food. After waiting a half hour in the sun for a 12 dollar burger, I would be hard pressed for anyone to be impressed, even if the food is descent! Oh, yeah, and after you grab your food, you have to find an open seat, and hope that the seat and table aren't covered in ketchup, crumbs, and bird crap. It's just all around a terrible dining experience.
