  1. Since you're too young to remember the early days of Top Gun, allow me to interject. Top Gun was added back when KI had about half the coasters it has now. And it was a very popular ride in its day.The queue regularly stretched back to about where SOB is now. In fact, I remember generally avoiding Top Gun because of the line. Back then the Racer and Beast ran a lot better. Now Top Gun is one of the few coasters in the park that is both fun and doesn't beat the crap out of you. Not a great ride by any means, but still one of the better ones in the park. While the conversion may have been a complete hack job, I don't think having an indoor coaster at Cedar Point is pointless at all. It rains a lot up there. With their BS rain policy the guests need something to do other than stare at puddles when the weather takes its inevitable turns. Edit: I just found this on Wikipedia: Too cheap to fix the roof, eh?
  2. ^Good luck with that, Big Mike. Dollywood discounts are hard to come by. Their season pass rates are pretty reasonable though. Supposedly, some AAA chapters sell Dollywood tickets. That might be worth looking into. Craigslist is another possibility, but I just checked both Knoxville, TN and Asheville, NC (two nearby cities) on CL and found nothing.
  3. But this law doesn't address the problem of under-trained ride operators. An untrained 18-year-old would likely act in the same way as an untrained 16-year-old. Heck, the Amish let kids MUCH younger than 16 operate heavy equipment and they have few problems with this.
  4. Being relatively close to IB is one of the few perks of living in this wasteland. I really hope the new owners don't dork around with the park too much. I'm especially fond of how fast 'n loose IB operates. How many other parks run their Double Shots so intensely that you slam into the restraints at the top? Or let you ride one per seat on a Falling Star, producing more insane lateral action than any coaster out there?
  5. Wow. I really want to go back to Legoland now. It's my second favorite park in SoCal.
  6. I rode SOB shortly after it re-opened last year and it sucks as much as it ever did. Only now you have to deal with the annoyance of G-trains and trying to position yourself away from the back of the seat, yet not too close to the lap bar. Ugh. Still a bottom 5 coaster that would make far better firewood than anything else.
  7. That would present some serious logistical problems as those parks are in the middle of the trip. Not only would you be stranded somewhere in Belgium or Holland and have to make your way to somewhere in Germany, you wouldn't save any money because you'd have to pay for your own lodging and transport. In fact, you'd probably wind up paying MORE to do it that way. The reason skipping DLP saves you money is because the trip begins and ends in Paris. DLP is the last park on the tour, so you'd just fly home early. My guess is this cheaper option is more aimed at Europeans who likely have already been to DLP and aren't paying $1,200 to $1,500 to fly to Paris.
  8. Whether you're sold or not, disc media is on the way out. And good riddance too. No more getting home with a movie only to find out that the moron who had it before you rendered it unplayable with scratches.
  9. That's why they call it "R. Kelly weekend".
  10. This is your best post yet.
  11. I noticed something. This is the longest queue the Avalanche has ever had.
  12. A professor of mine who happens to be a DVC member was commenting on that recently. He says WDW is the only place he's been to where he doesn't think about the outside world at all Still, Disneyland gets my vote. I enjoy the Magic Kingdom style parks most and I think Disneyland has Magic Kingdom whipped. Much better attractions, more dark rides, and less walking. Granted I've only visited Disneyland in January when it was not at all crowded. Also, California Screamin' is far and away my favorite Disney coaster. And Blue Bayou is my favorite Disney restaurant. Obviously, if you add up the entire experience WDW is going to win. More hotels than you could ever stay in, great food everywhere, 4 huge parks with more to do than you could ever imagine, water parks that are nearly peerless. Not to mention the fact that when you travel to WDW you can also get your B&M fix on at Universal, Busch, and Sea World. Still, something about Disneyland, how it's like a summary sheet of only really good attractions and not 8 hours of walking apart gives it a slight edge for me. Disneyland, for me, is like that neighborhood grocery store that somehow manages to stock everything you need even though there is a big box megastore up the street with 10x more stuff.
  13. ^I greatly prefer squash. Racquetball pisses me off. Any game where you can hit the ball after missing on your first swing sucks.
  14. You got to play squash in gym class? Awesome.
  15. I'm not a stalker, I'm related to her ex. Dark Helmet: I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate. Lone Starr: What's that make us? Dark Helmet: Absolutely nothing! Which is what you are about to become.
  16. Awesome! When can I send my deposit for the TPR ME trip?
  17. Our vibrations were getting nasty. But why? Was there no communication in this car? Had we deteriorated to the level of dumb beasts?
  18. He was an idiot about it and I don't feel sorry for him, but nobody deserves 4 years for such an insanely low amount. Draconian measures such as these call into question the viability of Dubai as an entertainment hub. A huge portion of entertainers share Grooverider's habits and may decide Dubai is just not worth the hassle. Of course, they could get around this by just throwing large amounts of cash at performers.
  19. Dude, she's still a member. She just spent several months on the whirlwind media trip of a lifetime. If logging into TPR isn't at the top of her list, I think we can forgive her. BTW, the creepy meter just went haywire again. Yeah, she's apparently a real enthusiast and has been for a while. This hobby tends to stick with you. She'll be back.
  20. I know what you mean. I've never seen that water park not crowded.
  21. this sounds dumb, but, where the heck is London?
  22. Perhaps you should provide some sort of evidence to back these claims. If it's so obvious, the job should be easy.
  23. A one off or annual event catering to a homogeneous crowd is distinct from a huge theme park catering to a mixed crowd. I'm still betting they at least won't be giving out CH3CH2OH for "free", even if they're told they can. In the interest of thread hijacking, I can think of several good wines in the $20 range, which puts you at a similar per serving cost as upper end beers, if you're talking $5+ bottles of Belgian stuff. Wine does have a much steeper upper end though.
  24. Giving out "free" beer is a big step beyond allowing very limited sale of it. This is a country that sentenced a pretty high profile entertainer to 4 years for 2 g of weed. Bud doesn't really taste like much of anything at all. If I want alcohol that tastes good, I'll drink wine.
