Using A Temporary Cedar Fair Maxx Pass at Knott's
ginzo replied to ginzo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Huge savings as long as they don't just outsource the whole thing to India. I completely agree. I've never seen that go well. Most companies that use Indian labor never seem to bother to check the english skills of the firms they hire. It's always fun to try to work with a company when they don't even really speak your language. -

As a shareholder, I have suggested that to the the company. It is in their plans. Corporate speak for - on the long to do list. Huge cost savings there. Though it sadly means that some mid-level IT managers will probably get sacked. -

I dunno. I rode Ghostrider today. Letting that obviously once-great ride fall into its current state is unforgivable. It was almost as bad as Son of Beast. I'd take good rides before good interpark communication any day. Cedar Fair should just dismantle all their woodies. They haven't a clue how to run them. As for the interpark issue. All those computer systems should be standardized. There should be one IT department that runs the whole thing, giving the entire chain a standard computing platform. It's bad business to do it any other way. -

Odd. I guess I just assumed that it would scan. Six Flags passes scan wherever you go. -
I've got ya covered. I took this on Tuesday. That through the rusty chain link fence shot really says it all about Kentucky Kingdom. I personally don't see much potential in that dilapidated 3-hour park. Greezed Lightnin' is a fun little shuttle loop, but the other coasters aren't all that. Thunder Run, their supposed best woodie, had a bad case of the Dinn shuffle when I rode it. Replacing T2 with the SFNO Batman clone would be the best thing to ever happen to Kentucky Kingdom.

Apple's arrogance shines through. http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2007-01-10-cisco-sues-apple_x.htm So, when Cisco wants to protect their 11-year-old trademark, they are being silly. But, when Apple sues any company that uses the word "pod" in a product, they are justly defending their IP. Cisco wasn't even asking for cash, which is within their rights. They just wanted interoperability, an open system.

But that charger is a great deal at $150! Who wants "horrible PC" at $1,000 when you can get a Mac with less processing power for $3,000? Although their cases can be pretty darn slick, are they really worth the extra $2,000? I've been following Apple and their lies for years. I remember when they were trying to convince the world that their slow a$$ PPC chips were "faster" than Intel because of the RISC architecture. Their only evidence to support this lie was some Photoshop benchmarks. Wow, comparing an app that was written for your OS from the ground up to the, at the time, slowish Windows port sure is a fair comparison. In a sense, I really admire their hype machine. They're almost as good as Microsoft is at it.

I work in the telecom industry, and I've never seen a PDA/cell phone that worked well as a phone. Blackberries, for example, make awful phones. You have to adopt this awkward grip when you're on a call. But, hey this is Apple. They're the masters of overcharging and underdelivering. Their devoted legions of fanboys ensure that they never have to try much. Tens of thousands of VW Jetta-driving, Starbucks-drinking, black turtle-neck-wearing creative department types will buy the iPhone, no matter how badly it sucks. At least they have pretty products!

This sort of thing is pretty common. My university supposedly overhauled their web page recently, but it seems that they just changed the front page. Most of the other pages look suspiciously like the old page. Maybe Knott's wanted to retool their web site, but budgeted an unrealistically low amount to get the job done. So, the developer just changed as many pages as they paid him/her for. I know nothing about web development. If it's anything like my specialty, network engineering, then incompetence is the norm. Just last night I had a customer trying to get us to hack up our DNS server because he didn't know how to properly configure his firewall.

Six Flags 2007 Season Passes
ginzo replied to MisterP's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Are you activating a new pass, or renewing one? I haven't had a pass in a few years, and I want to buy one at SFGAm for a some business trips I have in the next few months. They say I have to activate it at my home park first. I'm wondering if anyone's up there to do it this time of year, before I leave???? This is a new pass. I don't live near SFMM, but there are no Six Flags parks in my state. I doubt I'll have problems activating it. -
Six Flags 2007 Season Passes

Please, no!!! I going to SFSTL, SFGadv, SFNE, and SFGam all for a total of 45 dollars!!!!! That's an incredible value, of course. But, do you really think Six Flags can turn the company around by giving away the gate? Cheap season passes just makes the problem of babysitting rowdy teens worse. They've cheapened their brand image, and this is no way to fix it. The season pass pricing structure makes no sense when you look at what competitors are doing, competitors that aren't losing their a$$. Do you want Six Flags to go out of business? How much can you enjoy those parks if they are sold to developers to make condos, and the rides are shipped to China for scrap? -
I read on imdb that Ron Jeremy, despite being a millionaire, is so cheap that he'll use garbage bags as luggage. That's too frugal for me.

Preying on a disabled kid. Now there's a fine specimen of humanity, a true role model.

I spent a year at Wright State. Although WSU isn't inside Dayton proper, I got the pleasure of going there a number of times. It's a dead/dying city, and most of it is one big ghetto. They have sky high crime, and a massive drug problem. Obviously, not everyone there is a crackhead, but the place itself is pretty messed up.

Never trust anyone from Dayton, OH! That entire town is like one giant crackhouse. I hope this guy gets into rehab, and cleans up his act. It's sad that we criminalize addiction, which is a medical problem.

Mitch Hawker's Steel Poll - Now Open
ginzo replied to ParkTrips's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, I think the poll is a great tool for planning trips. While I may not agree with the exact ranking, knowing what the top rides are helps me figure out where I want to go next. -
Six Flags 2007 Season Passes
ginzo replied to MisterP's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I just bought two online that I'm going to activate at SFMM in a few weeks. They were only $60 each. I think this is silly. They need to raise the price. Cedar Fair Maxx Passes are $125, and Six Flags has more parks. Six Flags should adopt Cedar Fair style pricing, offering both home park only and chain wide passes. And the home park only passes should be $80. I think giving a free kiddie pass with an adult pass is a great idea, but the adult passes should cost more. How do you chase away rowdy teens by offering your passes so cheaply. -
Borat Snakes on a Plane Casino Royale A Scanner Darkly I also saw the Departed and Clerks II, but didn't think much of them. Both fell far short of their respective director's previous efforts.

Amusement Park Workers In Ohio Excluded

Yeah... that would be fun Employee discount on all the things you need to build your own backyard woodie! That would be Home Depot, not Office Depot. -
I found that on some web page of worst album covers of all time. I think that guy is pretty creepy, but hilarious.

Is this the crappy news thread? It's pretty easy to find this stuff. Any news source will give you more than enough bad news.

I think that falls under the category of "duh". We probably don't know everything about math. But, what we do know is solid, and has served us well. Things are accepted in empirical science when there is a preponderance of evidence in support of them. Science is inherently reductionist, which has caused some philosophers, like Nietzsche, to criticize it. But, this is a necessary evil, as our intelligence only goes so far. If God is a non-physical entity, then science has no way to study Him. Funny you should bring that up. Galileo was inquisitioned for that discovery. Not exactly religion's finest hour. But, the Earth and the solar system are physical bodies that we can study with instruments. How do you see a non-physical entity with a telescope? My area of scientific interest is neuroscience. I'm working towards this being my profession. John Lilly, one of the most famous neuroscientists, said that humans will never fully understand the brain, because we are not smart enough. I think he might be right, but it's still fun to try.

Are you going to post a PTR of that?

Science is not a religion. It has completely different philosophical underpinnings. Science is about discovering the physical world. Religion purports to explain everything, physical and metaphysical. Science does not cover anything metaphysical. You are correct that the body of human knowledge is limited compared to what is out there waiting to be discovered. But, how does that make science a religion? And, there are plenty of laws in science. First Law of Thermodynamics Second Law of Thermodynamics Ideal Gas Law Newton's 3 Laws Ohm's Law Law of Gravitation Just to name a few. These are called laws because there have never been any situations observed where they were violated. Never. Scientific theories are made to explain the laws of nature, but the word "theory" in science has a different meaning than in common usage. A scientific theory is well-established, supported by countless experiments. Disproving a scientific theory is a momentous achievement, which would certainly win you a Nobel Prize at the least. Nonsense! Math is what gives science credibility, because it is reliable. It was Descartes who made this contribution several hundred years ago. If math were broken, lots of other things wouldn't work, like our government, computers, sports, and capitalist economy. Have you ever yelled at a cashier in a store for being overcharged, because "math isn't accurate"? Probably not. You might get angry when they do the math incorrectly, but this has nothing to do with the reliability of math.
