  1. GhostRider was obviously a great ride at one point, and now it's terrible. Silver Bullet is a very lackluster B&M invert compared to Montu or Dueling Dragons. Xcelerator is kinda fun, but not worth more than a few spins. Mantis Man is a little out there for riding it 20,000 times. The Amusement Today rankings are universally scorned here. CP has one top 10 coaster in Mitch Hawker's poll. I do agree that CF is the best choice out of possible suitors, but I don't think my home park is going to improve much.
  2. http://www.ushsho.com/steelrollercoasterpollresults2006.htm I'm glad that I'm going to get to ride the number 1 in June! I'm surprised Black Mamba didn't do better.
  3. I was there last week, and it was an awful park. After having been at Disneyland the day before, I couldn't handle that place for more than a few hours. GhostRider broke down, and they didn't give us anything for the hassle of walking down the lift hill. Then they got mad when I snapped pictures of the broken down train. A couple of hotels and a TGI Friday's don't make a resort. Isn't there nothing to do after the park shuts down? Not the case with Universal and Disney. And the quality of CP's coasters is highly debatable. Maverick is looking to be awesome though. One thing is for sure- Racer and Beast won't get the track work they desperately need. CF is awful with wood.
  4. The gist of what I'm saying is that PKI needs a decent coaster. This is because all their current coasters suck, thus making their decisions to date not so great. Actually, that article shows that Knotts has revenue very close to what Cedar Point has. So why is Knotts been turned into such a dump, while their flagship park gets its 17th coaster? CP is barely a resort destination. They're getting there. But they're nowhere near a real resort park, like Disney or Universal. Or maybe PKI will just become a wasteland like Knotts. They'll suck all the money they can from it, and invest almost nothing. It's great business, but sucks for enthusiasts. And when the locals whine about not getting any new rides, they can just pull another secondhand Vekoma from another park. Get ready for a $5 swing ride!!! The Future of PKI- Giving You Nothing After Making You Walk Down A Lift Hill, then Yelling At You for Taking Pictures
  5. Actually my point had nothing to do with X-flight. Obviously relocating a coaster takes much less time then designing a new one. Just pointing out that complaining that Cedar Fair isn't building major attractions at any Paramount park is stupid. Weren't they supposedly honoring a pretty significant, previously existing capital plan for PKI for 2007? And this is what they come up with? Somehow I don't think Paramount planned to move a POS Vekoma over from Geauga Lake. This delays even the possibility of PKI getting a respectable coaster for at least another few years. The park is packed as it is. They're going to have to start ripping stuff out. I think complaining about it is perfectly reasonable. It's possible that PKI makes more money than Cedar Point does based on the greater attendance. AFAIK industry experts claim that greater attendance generally correlates to greater profits. At least that's what I read in Forbes So CF goes and shoves a complete piece of junk on a park that makes good money, then gives a masterpiece to Cedar Point because they are so in love with pumping that park up, even though it completely doesn't need it. They pump up CP, and let other parks like Knotts rot. Sucks, and I'll whine some more about it.
  6. They should be able to easily meet the demand. The hardware isn't very different from the Gamecube, which came out in 2001 in Japan. The technology is half a decade old, and the manufacturing should consequently be trivial. I understand that the demand far exceeded their projections, but shouldn't they have built some sort of contingency plan in case the thing wildly succeeded?
  7. Valleyfair and Cedar Point though have both been in Cedar Fair's hands for a long time. Even if CF wanted to drop a big Intamin coaster into PKI they wouldn't have had time to plan it. They haven't even had control of Paramount for a year yet. Building a major Intamin coaster, or a GCI twister takes a few years to plan, develop, and build. Can't just drop one into a park like RCT. So what you're saying is this crappy X-flight thing won't go well, because they haven't had a few years to plan, develop, and build.
  8. Of course, I don't really believe Cedar Fair has any residual grudge against PKI from the days when they were competing. I just think the park deserves more love than it has received. CF should stop pumping up Cedar Point, and give their other parks some love.
  9. No way dude. We're going to day trip some real parks this summer. PKI certainly deserves a real coaster based on their attendance numbers, but will likely never get one. Does Cedar Fair want to turn PKI into another wasteland like Knott's? Their actions this year make certainly make it look like they really want to smack PKI. Cedar Point gets a world class new Intamin this year, while PKI gets a clunky secondhand coaster from a third rate manufacturer. Even Valleyfair, a park with far less atttendance than PKI, gets a nice new coaster this year. PKI gets more visitors than CP does even!
  10. Nintendo doesn't need better marketing of the Wii. They need to make more units!!! I still don't have one. I find their inability to make enough units of 5-year-old technology kinda pathetic.
  11. Scream! is one of the most pathetic coaster installations I've seen. Couldn't they do something about those painted parking lines? How much could gravel really cost? I do think, however, that it's one of the few decent coasters at Magic Mountain. I think Dueling Dragons wins for best station. Do any other coasters come close to that sweet castle? The ride itself isn't themed as well as, say, Montu.
  12. Xcelerator would be pretty lame to marathon. It's just a launch, a top hat, and a few turns. Big deal. It sounds like this fellow has some mental health issues. Oh well.
  13. You could try some camping. I wouldn't do it personally, but it's cheap. If you do camp, try to schedule your trip for early summer. Camping in August could suck. Another suggestion is to try to hit a lot of Six Flags parks, because you can buy those dirt cheap season passes at SFMM. Then you can save on park admissions by using the passes.
  14. Airtran is a good choice. I've had good luck with them, and prefer them over Southwest. Southwest's lack of assigned seating makes me angry. It's funny how the low cost carriers can totally kick the major carrier's a$$es in running things smoothly, yet everyone still remembers Airtran as "DeathJet". Meanwhile, Delta could crash 10,000 planes and nobody would blink.
  15. You're not missing much. In-n-Out Burger is a lot better. Sonic likes to smear way too much mustard on their burgers, and they're not that fresh. You can get similar food at any fast food burger place. Take your pick.
  16. No youre not! What on earth does a person with as much money as Beckham need such high wages for? He says hes not going to MLS for the money, so how hes got the conscience to accept that amount of money is beyond my understanding..... The same goes for mostly all celebrities.... Of course, it's not a matter of need. But, Beckham is a huge name that'll do a lot for the league. I guess he figures he might as well get some of the money he's bringing into the league. Otherwise it'll all go to the team owners. Why single out athletes anyway? They're small potatoes compared to some other people out there. Since the MLS is big on picking up has-been european footballers right now, they should pick up Zidane. He's an excellent player, and we'll get all kinds of awesome headbutting antics on YouTube.
  17. Like BeemerBoy said, we have very little information. Who knows what happened? Private security goons can get carried away. Some of the security guards at my work have been scary individuals, borderline psychotic. Maybe the girls lied. Maybe this guy is lying. We'll never know. Frankly, who cares? $10 million is excessive for this kind of case. They didn't beat the guy into a wheelchair. He didn't lose some $1 million/yr CEO job.
  18. $10 million he won't get. $1 million he won't get. Heck, I'd be shocked if he got $100 grand. It's up to this guy to prove that his damaged reputation is costing him financially. I mean what's this guy's reputation worth anyway? Probably not as much as he is suing for. If he lost his job or lost customers at a company he owns because of this, he might get some decent money out of this.
  19. PKI's Racer is in a similar state of disrepair. It's shameful. Poor John Allen; his coasters aren't getting the TLC they deserve.
  20. The way lawsuits work is you have to prove that you were damaged for the amount you are suing for. You can file suit for $10 million in damages all day long, but if you can't prove $10 million in damages you'll never get that. I imagine this guy doesn't get a dime more than 10 grand for his bruises.
  21. You forgot their job of making sure that launched coasters are closed more than open for the first 2-3 years of operation.
  22. Have you seen Vincent Gallo's "Buffalo '66"? He portrays Buffalo in the most unfavorable light imaginable, and it's a pretty damn funny movie.
  23. If Intamin has Stengel do the design work and they contract out the manufacturing and construction, what do they bring to the table? Project management experience? The ability to realize projects on-time and within the budget? Excuse my ignorance, but I know very little about how this works.
  24. Knott's was kinda a let down. We got the credits and left. After having been at Disney the day before, we couldn't hang with that ghetto park. Basically, believe everything the Alveys say about Knott's. Xcellerator was kinda fun, and Silver Bullet was a very average invert. We got pretty mad at the fact that they try to charge $5 to ride their giant swing ride. Basic flat rides should not be upcharge attractions.
