  1. Really? Lame! They just took out the best part of the ride!
  2. It sure would be nice if this thread had vegetarian spelled correctly in the title. BTW- if you go by the teeth, humans are most definitely omnivores. We have pig-like teeth. If you want to see what carnivore teeth look like, look in your dog or cat's mouth.
  3. That doesn't make ne sense! That's the smoothest part of the ride. How are you gonna make a rider smoother by taking out the smoothest part?
  4. "Hard to see the future is." -Yoda No offense, but making predictions 50 years out borders on uselessness. In 50 years I'll be nearly 80 years old, and probably won't give a crap about Legoland closing. Or, maybe a giant meteor could hit the Earth, and kill us all within 50 years. How about the next 10 years? What major parks will close in the next decade, and why?
  5. I think the solution is obvious. You patronize the good parks, and let the bad ones die off. Though, I think a lot of relatively bad parks survive based on the fact that they are the only game in town. SFKK has no direct competition in the Louisville area. I can't imagine that toilet would survive if there was anything decent in town.
  6. My first rides on Montu were last October at Howl-O-Scream. I got three amazing night rides. Maybe my ignorance is bliss, but those rides were incredible. I did notice a bit of slow down at the MCBR, but the ride really recovered and kicked butt for the duration of the course. That last suprise inversion rules!
  7. I have a feeling that Expedition GeForce and S:ROS are about to be knocked out of the #1 spot. I've been reading through the processed ballots, and Black Mamba is really kicking butt in the mutual rider comparison to Expedition GeForce. This could, of course, change as more ballots are processed.
  8. I agree that there is good news along with the bad. We got three excellent new woodies this year. Holiday World attracted 1,000,000 visitors to a park in the middle of fricken' nowhere that is near no major cities whatsoever. SFOG got a new B&M hyper, and SFMM got a massive flyer. And, look at next year. Maverick, Mystery Mine, Griffon, Flying Turns (maybe), Renegade. Mall of America is getting a Eurofighter in 2008. There's plenty to be excited about.
  9. I think the hyper aspect of it is debatable. SOB never seemed all that fast due to the shuffling. It also has zero airtime. I think hyper is more of a design philosophy than "any 200 ft coaster". According to B&M's web page, "Height, speed, airtime characterize the Hyper Coaster." Nobody has ever called Sheikra a hypercoaster, or Griffon (200 ft and 205 ft respectively), but Expedition GeForce (173 ft) and Goliath @ Walabi World (153 ft) are commonly described as such.
  10. A lot of BBs use the ECA (Ephedrine-Caffeine-Aspirin) stack to burn fat. That sounds nasty to me, but supposedly it works. I've had to cut back on my water intake. I hate going to the bathroom constantly. Too much water can actually be fatal due to hyponatremia, but this would require a lot more than 8 glasses in a day.
  11. The increase in BP is only a problem if you have problems with high BP. If you don't have hypertension, it's no big deal. On the whole, caffeine is extremely safe. The biomedical research community has been shooting at it for years, and has never found that it does much harm to healthy people. http://pharmrev.aspetjournals.org/cgi/content/full/51/1/83 The link above is an exhaustive scientific review of caffeine.
  12. I heard that Disney is buying S:TE to replace the loop in California Screaming with, and then they are going to retrack it as an Intamin woodie.
  13. The kind of holes that don't want to hurt riders! A few of the riders were mangled pretty badly in last year's accident. They're trying to find a way to prevent this from ever happening again. Safety is a lot more important than keeping some dumb gimmick in a ride that was never any good to begin with. PKI should have invested in a hypercoaster instead of SOB. The cost is similar, and it would have been a far better investment with far less maintenance headaches.
  14. Maybe it is confusing, what I meant was that if they reduce the mass of the trains the ride becomes less forceful. If they keep the current trains the only way to make the ride less forceful is to remove the loop. Since they dont want to buy new trains, they remove the loop. Dane I don't really understand what you're saying either. The loop isn't the problem. That was the smoothest part of the ride. PKI is claiming that the heavy steel coaster trains are tearing up the track. If they can use lighter trains the track won't get torn up as much, and the ride will be smoother. I'm not quite sure why lighter trains won't work in the loop. Are they not durable enough?
  15. Because not mangling more riders takes precedence over meaningless marketing BS. Records are overrated.
  16. Lame. I was hoping for them to replace SoB with that much-needed hypercoaster. I don't think you're going to see much capex from CF in the coming years due to the acquisition of Paramount Parks. Actually, that spot seems like it would be a great place to put an airtime hill, or two. That would at least give the ride some redeeming value. But, hey this is PKI. So, fat chance!
  17. Basically NONE of the coffee that you buy in the US is any good. If you've ever had coffee directly from Central American countries like Costa Rica, Nicaragua, or Colombia you know exactly what I'm talking about. And, I'm not talking about "Colombian blend" or whatever these US stores call it. I'm talking about the stuff they sell on the streets of Central American countries. Absolutely no comparison to the bitter mud water they peddle here. So, make lots of friends with people who have relatives in those countries, and have them send you the real stuff. I'm cursed with caffeine hypersensitivity, and cannot drink coffee in any quantity.
  18. That would be pretty sweet! I felt Voyage was pretty darn rough when we rode it, and it only like 3 weeks old!!! And add a little bit more airtime while you're at it! --Robb "A smoother Voyage with more airtime might have made me actually rank it #1." Alvey The Voyage's biggest problem is inconsistency. My first few rides were mind-blowing, but I've also had some crap rides on it with a bit of jackhammering. I rode it in three separate trips in May, July, and August. I think it was best in May. Let's hope the track work they just completed clears up these issues. I've also found that the front seat of the Voyage is a lot smoother than most of the other seats. The third seat, oddly, can be brutal. It's also a really bad idea to put your arms up in the finale because you can often find your elbows bashing into your riding partner's head.
  19. Good point. I haven't seen it in person yet so I may come away with the same impression. From what I've seen picture and video wise so far was just kinda "bleh". I just feel Voyage would look so much more monstrous made out of wood. El Toro on the other hand is monstrous on two levels; 1) It's sheer humungous size of clutter of all that stacked wood and 2) It's placemnet side by side and through Rolling Thunder showing how RT is absolutely dwarfed in comparison. Now that's monstrous. Sounds like a bit of NJ fanboyism. They're both obviously pretty awesome rides, although I haven't gotten to ride El Toro yet. Looks can be deceiving. Who would think that the Avalanche is a top ride just by looking at it? And, isn't El Toro even more dwarfed by Kingda Ka than Rolling Thunder is by El Toro?
  20. Taco Bell is disgusting. How can you distinguish e. coli poisoning from the standard Taco Bell vomiting experience?
  21. I'm going to have to go with Flying Turns at Knoebels for my most anticipated ride of 2007. There's nothing else like it. Of course, Knoebels has not committed to even opening it in 2007, but it looks like it will.
  22. I'm going to get a tattoo of a butt, with a butt-shaped tattoo on it, and I'm going to get it right on my butt.
  23. Huh?!? Explain. This poll, unlike any other, allows anyone to participate, which gives a better sampling than a bunch of random ballots sent out to a few people in Ohio, most of whom have never done little to no international travelling. The way this poll is structured makes it the most accurate and fair one out there. dt Like Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, "I keed. I keed." Mitch's poll is a thousand times more accurate, IMO, than that Golden Ticket crap. It's no wonder Cedar Point has 6 billion adds in that magazine since those awards make that park look like the greatest thing going. It amazes me that Cedar Point hasn't announced plans to build a new wooden coaster cause I guarentee that it would probably be automatically number one on the Golden Ticket awards if it was at all a decent ride... thus many people would subcosciously convince themselves it was great even if it was truly mediocre. I'm already bracing myself for the top three ranking the Golden Ticket is going to give Maverick, but I'll hold back that argument till it happens. I'm just hoping that Maverick turns out to be a great ride. Damn the rankings. Everything looks great so far.
  24. That's a pretty amazing loss for a restaurant in a run down amusement park. In fact, I'd say that's one for the record books. How in the world did they do that?
  25. Have to agree with the Raven comment, have ridden it many times all over the train and still don't get what people see in it. How it was ever #1 amazes me. How it still ranks at #11 really amazes me. It's just average at best. I prefer the back seat of the Raven, as the drops are much more intense there. Apparently, the Raven is all about the night rides, which I haven't got to try yet, because HW closes so darn early. I personally can see why the Raven is a top 20 ride. It packs quite a fast, crazy ride for such small little coaster. Now, I think Cornball Express and Avalanche pack even crazier rides into small footprints.
