  1. Americana/LeSourdesville Lake (defunct park) Beech Bend Busch Gardens Africa Dollywood Epcot Hersheypark Holiday World Indiana Beech Islands of Adventure Mt. Olympus Magic Kingdom Paramount's King's Island Six Flags Great Adventure Six Flags Great America Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Stricker's Grove (not really a park) Timber Falls (not really a park either) Universal Studios Orlando Wyandot Lake (more of a water park with a coaster) Not exactly a hugical list, but not too bad considering this was my first year of seriously going outside the home park. What's really sad about my list is that I have credits that I just don't remember, and therefore can't count. I went to both Hersheypark and SFGAdv like 10 years ago, and haven't the foggiest idea about what coasters I went on. Grrr...
  2. A lot of the time there is no hangtime in loops, because the "centrifugal force" (not a real force in physics) holds you to your seat. You skipped out on the B&M invert? Man, you screwed up. They're so much fun.
  3. I think my first coaster was Racer at PKI. But, it could have also been the Beast. I was under 10 years old. So, this puts it at somewhere in the mid 1980s.
  4. I went with BGA, because I think it has a better rides than IOA.
  5. No. The guy lost his mind. It's really obvious that he totally lost it there. It wasn't some joke gone wrong. That was one of the most openly racist tirades I've ever seen up on a stage, if not the most. I never liked Seinfeld anyway.
  6. I read through the ballots like a week ago. Voyage is doing quite well. I didn't, however, check too closely into how it compared with Balder and El Toro. I've personally got Voyage at #3, behind favorite steel (#1) and Avalanche at Timber Falls (#2). I have yet to ride El Toro or Balder, though.
  7. No store is going to hold a Wii on the launch date. It was basically a mad race to get down there.
  8. Not as bad as Ohio though. I'm not a big fan of Ohio either, but I don't think NKY residents have any room to knock Ohio seeing as they all work here. If their state were so great they could find decent jobs there.
  9. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cruising 2. cruising When a married man or bi/gay man hangs around public toilets cruising for sex with other men. See George Michael or Urinal-Slut. ----- I just thought you might like to know.
  10. Why in gods name would you drive all that way out of you way and not know where to go?? That is extremly silly if you ask me!! Because Florence isn't exactly big. Usually big stores like Best Buy are right on the main drag. Had I stayed on the main road I would have been fine, but I started making turns and totally screwed myself. Haste is not speed.
  11. Does anyone know when the next round of Wiis will be shipped out? I've called several stores. Nobody can tell me anything. They're all saying "weeks".
  12. I got up relative late knowing I was taking a risk. I didn't want to miss any sleep over it.
  13. Lots. Cheap and fun.
  14. So this morning I decided to make a late attempt at getting a Wii. Attempt 1: I left the house at 7:45 AM, and arrived at Target at a little after 8:00 AM. I saw people walking out of store with their Wiis, and discovered Target was fresh out. No big deal. Plenty more stores to hit. Attempt 2: I see a big line at Circuit City across the street, but I decided I don't want to wait in the cold. So, I drive to Walmart. Bad move. They opened at 7:00 AM. All gone. Attempt 3: I drive back to Circuit City, and notice the line is shorter. Apparently, in the time I took to go over to Walmart, Circuit City had already given out their tickets and dispersed the line. Had I just gotten into the line directly after leaving Target I could very well have a Wii right now. Attempt 4: I drive over to Sam's Club, and get in line. They open at 10:00 AM, and it's 8:30 AM. After 10 minutes or so of waiting, an employee comes out and gives out tickets to claim Wiis when they open at 10:00 AM. But, they only had 5 units total. I wound up being THE ONLY ONE IN LINE TO NOT GET A WII. The guy in front of me wasn't even a Sam's Club member. He was signing up just to get the Wii. Crap. Attempt 5: I race down to the Florence, KY Best Buy, averaging about 85 MPH. Supposedly, this Best Buy has 50 units, which means I have a decent shot at getting one. I get off the Florence exit on I-75/I-71S at roughly 9:00 AM. There is hope. Then I realize I have no fricken' clue where Best Buy is in Florence. I proceed to get more lost than I've ever been in my life. I spent roughly 30 minutes racing around nasty Kentucky backroads, feeling pressure on my colon from last night's White Castle. I get on the highway, and drive home defeated. Attempt 6: I talk to a friend on AIM who tells me that the Toys R Us by his house is a great place to get new consoles. He tells me a friend of ours got his XBOX 360 there without problems at the launch. Nobody goes there he claims, and he'll pick one up for me. I call up to Toys R Us at 10:02 AM, 2 minutes after opening. Sold out. They have no idea when more will be in either. All-in-all, I'm not too mad here, except for the part where I was completely lost in Kentucky. I hate Kentucky. I'm just glad I didn't get up at 5:00 AM. There are supposed to be 4 million units shipped by the end of the year. I imagine I'll get one this week some time.
  15. Thanks for the pictures. That place doesn't look too bad. I bet it's better than SFKK. It's a shame Medusa was closed. The pics of it look rather nice, especially with the mountains on the horizon. It looks almost like a GCII, as it has a bit of a twister thing going on with it. I bet it tracks like hell though. Six Flags woodie + Gerstlauer trains + Mexican maintenance dept. = doesn't sound good to me. http://www.rcdb.com/id2829.htm Sounds like Six Flags went a little light on their obligatory bribe to the Mexican government, thus delaying construction a few years.
  16. Note: The link below contains naughty language. http://tinyurl.com/y6hc66 (I used tiny URL because the URL itself contains naughty words). I think Maddox is onto something here. Why does Sony ceaselessly release proprietary formats in attempts to monopolize a certain medium? They've been doing this from Betamax onward. I don't think they've received the memo that they're not what they once were. Sony made its bones by being a leader in the CRT market. They're anything but the leader in today's TV and PC monitor market. But, they still act like they're king.
  17. I can see the flag issue being defeated in court under "free speech", but don't see the documentation clause being deemed unconstitutional.. I don't think there's any question that the flag provision is against the First Amendment. Consequently, that town would get smacked in Federal Court on that. That's why they're not enforcing it. They know it's illegal for them to do so. But, they can keep their facist law on the books if they never enforce it, because it can't be challenged in court then. I find it amusing and perhaps a little bit scary that some so-called libertarians here don't see an issue with government regulating free expression. No. There is clear First Amendment protection here. Even burning the American flag is protected under the First Amendment, not that I think that's a swell idea.

  19. http://www.slate.com/id/2153941/?nav=tap3 Here's a decent piece on this movie. I don't think I'll be seeing it. I'm going to see Casino Royale instead, even if Sean Connery is the only real Bond.
  20. Right now I'm a Network Engineer, and I think it's quite yucky work. I'm applying to medical schools in the spring. I originally wanted to do neurosurgery, but decided that's far too intense and the hours suck. So, now I'm looking at neuroradiology. You get paid like a surgeon, but you work more normal hours. No nasty 4 AM calls either.
  21. Can't you say that about pretty much ALL businesses? Seriously....has anyone here ever worked at a company where there wasn't *something* to complain about? I have. My employer is perfect. We're all multibillionaires from the booming stock value. Our management team is all Rhodes Scholars and Nobel Laureates. We get 56 weeks of vacation per year, 10 free massages per day, free breakfast, free lunch, and everybody has a corner office. We also have a private amusement park for breaks, complete with 75 roller coasters, all B&M custom.
  22. I've done well financially with no degree, but I've decided to change my career entirely. The path I've chosen demands more formal education than any other career. I'm finishing up my undergrad now, and I don't feel in the slightest bit cheated. I go to an excellent school, and the experience has been wonderful.
  23. Uhhh.....your grandfather was a criminal, and he wasn't sent back to Italy. IMO, your grandfather was more of a criminal than most illegal immigrants, so in your scheme he should have been deported. Also, that's great that you graduated from high school at the age of 16, but: A) It's irrelevant to the topic B) College matters more than high school Sorry to be an a$$, but I'm in a pissy mood right now. Feel free to wig out as much as you want over this post. Yeah, he should have been... I am sorry the irony was lost on you. However, he was in the country legally (i accidentally had typed Illegal in my previous post) and had gone through the process of becomeing an American, he was just a victim of circumstance as was many Italian Americans. He did not leech off of society, he did not get government handouts, he owned his own business and paid taxes as a resident alien. He was a proud American... yes he was a proud Italian.. but he flew his American flag the highest... he even attempted to join the army to fight in the war. As far as the college comment... I was making a point that I'm not an uneducated redneck... i would say that would be relevant. As far as college... i was done with that at 20. I have a film degree... I have yet to ever be asked to present it though... I learned more in private study than I ever did in my classes. I would like my money back actually. If you feel gyped, maybe you should have studied something a little bit more demanding than film, like underwater basket weaving or communications.
  24. Well, it was supposed to be an indictment against the fast food industry, not something as nebulous as "the average American diet and exercise regiment". But, because he changed both at the same time, there's no way to determine what caused his vast physiological changes. Was it the McDonalds, the lack of exercise, a combination of both? No way to separate that out. Also, I don't think he even succeeded in the way you describe. Nobody eats McDonald's 3 meals a day for an entire month, at least the average American does not. I don't, however, think it was a terrible film, like Robb does. I found parts of it entertaining, though slightly disturbing. The film has great shock value.
  25. I'm really excited about it. It's so nice to see Nintendo trying to focus on innovative gameplay, instead of just 31337 graphics. The obsession with graphics kinda reminds me of theme parks being obsessed with breaking roller coaster records. I really want to try the bowling game. I'm super hooked on this cheesy trackball-based arcade bowling game right now. Nerdy, right?
