Went Friday for my first ever visit. My GF and I got the FL+ passes as recommended and it was an amazing time. Rarely had any waits for anything got a ton of rides on everything. Diamondback and Banshee were both amazing, but damn do I love Orion. It's only the second gigacoaster I've ever ridden (Fury back in 2019 being the other) and while it's a shorter ride, I feel like it's all killer and no filler. Some of those pops of air are VERY aggressive pops where it felt like it was really trying to buck me off. Of course, Diamondback has a lot of that too. I feel like Diamondback is probably the better overall coaster but Orion hits a couple points higher, just not as many. Banshee is easily the most intense inverted coaster i've ever been on. Loved it. Mystic Timbers and Flight of Fear were both a lot of fun. Racer was better than I thought it would be too! I started the day on Beast and it was fun (shockingly smooth!) and then the ending hit, and that spiral down is freaking crazy. Got to end the night with a night ride on Beast, and wow is that insane. That was basically the perfect wooden coaster experience. Felt like I was going to fly off and die in the woods, haha. Seriously though, Beast is incredible at night. I don't have the experience that some of the folks here do, but KI has the perfect mix of coasters. The big giga with an insane first drop, the hyper that's an airtime machine, the invert that will not let you breathe, and then some nice woodies to boot, including the Beast which is now my favorite woodie. Love KI, a great park! Totally recommend the FL+. Worth every penny. Doing that many rides in a day had us feeling it the next day though!3 points

^ They finally got a color printer with their 2022 budget and goddammit they're gonna use it!2 points

Not sure why you'd bother them asking if there'd be a season next year. All of the information known about the sale indicates that the earliest they could possibly close would be 2 years away.2 points

It's the name of a mythical evil snake in their mythical ethos they've developed to theme the park around.1 point

I hope the park has the bankroll to survive their godawful opening strategy, truly I do, but I'm in Des Moines and have no interest in visiting until Mutagani (at least) is open. I can't imagine anyone is looking to travel to this place as it is now the most remote, inaccessible park in the country. They took the crown from Lagoon.1 point

Went to Lost Island last week for the first time! We absolutely adored the park! The park exceeded our expectations (waiting for a quip like "how high were your expectations?"). We spent about three hours at the park and the only reason we left was because we wanted to get to Adventureland early enough to marathon Monster. But anyways, we loved Volkanu and Amara Aviators. We really wanted to ride Rokava and Mura Fury, but they were closed for the day for technical issues. That being said, that's just one more reason to go back later this summer to visit. Nopuko was definitely not the worst SLC I've ridden. It was actually pretty smooth and fun aside from the two jolts at the top of the rollover; the trick is to ride further back in the train. We did notice that it seemed to run insanely fast for an SLC. Another quick note: we noticed something odd about Matugani. We noticed that there was strips of paint missing along the track where the wheels run. I think it is quite possible the coaster may have started testing, so it'll probably be open by August. Some quick thoughts about the park overall: Aside from the parking and admission prices, everything was priced very fairly. Food was cheap and good for a theme park, even the alcohol prices were not incredibly high. I love the original themes. I am in love with the Tamariki mascot. Everything looks stellar in the park. The architectural styles throughout the park are gorgeous and everything looks great put together. I especially love the look of the buildings in Udara and Yuta realms. The layout of the park is amazing and I loved the placement of the rides. I love all the lookouts at the water, including the area in Awa that includes the bar and a couple snack places. There is a nice seating area that overlooks the water with cool lighting and some areas for the kids to play while the adults rest. Plus I love how the rides are laid out in the Udara realm; the atmosphere will be electric when all the rides are running at once in that area. The landscaping will be gorgeous once it has a chance to fill out. Each realm had at least a dozen trees planted, and they will definitely add to the atmosphere here in a couple seasons, especially in the Yuta realm. However, the paths are pretty unshaded by the trees at this point in time. But that's not a huge surprise since it is a brand-new park. But a nice, added touch is that they made sure to include some slight elevation changes throughout the park so that it isn't completely on a flat field. There's also a couple of areas where they put little streams that run near a path. Overall, the landscaping looks great and I'm excited to see it grow. Overall, the park is off to a decent start. I know the low attendance is a bit discouraging now, but I think it is for the better that the attendance is kinda low for this season, only because it is giving them a chance to work out the kinks in the operation of the park before massive crowds come. I think people would be a lot more disappointed if they came out to the park in droves this year as opposed to next season. Especially with Yuta Falls opening next year since it will be the main water ride of the theme park. I think people will be really impressed next season when more of the landscaping has started growing in a bit more and when every single attraction is open. But as the park is now, I was perfectly satisfied and I'm excited for everybody to go out and try it!1 point

I've been there once! It was a decade ago, though, but very nice. We got a condo that fit our whole group of 6 adults and a child very comfortably. It was clean and well-kept. It was in the winter, though, so no chance to try out their pools and other amenities. It's so close to the park, too, that it's super super convenient. Like, coming at SDC from the south on Indian Pt Rd gives you way less traffic than coming from the north off of 76. Oh, also, I highly recommend the Saloon Show. I don't know how it is now, but I've loved it since I started going to the park as a kid in the 90s and have always enjoyed it.1 point

They definitely have. We'll be in Branson and have some other family coming out who want to go to SDC, too. She's in the 2nd, but we'll definitely be taking it easy with many rest breaks. I did find out that my kids are tall enough to ride a lot more than I originally thought. My 4 year old is even tell enough to ride mystic and powder keg if he's brave enough! I'm considering the trail blazer or whatever the fast pass is called. Is it worth it? I think we'll be visiting on the last Monday in August(before labor day). Are weekdays usually crowded? Any show recommendations? Also, it looks like we'll be staying at the Still Waters resorts. Anyone been there and have a review? Basically any tips are welcome!1 point

Look at WoF going all fancy and full-color with their entry passes. Even Cedar Point and Kings Island had monocolor ones when they were using them.1 point

^ I was there Wednesday as well! This was my first visit since 2008, and first time experiencing their waterpark as well. I forgot how great of a park this is, and the water coasters are pretty phenomenal. We didn't get to do Wildebeest, but Cheetah Chase and Mammoth are a blast. Thunderbird was also new since I was there last, and was awesome. The barn owls in the station are also a cool touch! The Voyage is also running so incredibly well this year. After the rougher rides I had on El Toro a few weeks back, it's safe to say I definitely hold Voyage a bit higher now. Also, major kudos for HW leaving it open until 8:30, even though park closing was at 8pm. I assume that was so people had something to do while they waited for the night show? Either way, it was a walk-on, and I'm certainly not complaining. The show was really nice also, and I already can't wait to go back!1 point

Went to the park for most of the day Wednesday and had a great time. Legend was posted to open late, once it did it was one train. But man its running great.1 point

Headed out yesterday for the passholder preview and... woof. I don't want to sound bitchy but I was really disappointed. SFMM decided that functional is the same as finished and we got a pretty terrible overall experience. Coaster - A solid 7/10. Less insane than the 1st-gen single rails, but I think that's a good thing. Easing up on the aggression makes it really re-rideable and I think it will be a huge hit with enthusiasts and GP. My one ride was in row 10, but I heard folks saying that the front was crazier. The new trains do make you sit with your feet unnaturally far apart, and it's kind of uncomfortable. Could be a more significant problem for folks who have shorter legs or narrow hips. Ops - I wasn't able to figure out what caused this but trains were regularly being sent out with only 4-6 passengers. Quite a few trains had only 2 or 3. This happened over and over again during my 3 hour long wait and it was maddening. The handful of times that they did send multiple full trains in a row, I noticed that the line actually does move, so that's a plus. I happened to be in one of the full trains, so I didn't get to see what the problem was they were experiencing. And I'm sure the employees were doing their best, no shade to them, but management forced them to open when they were very clearly not ready. Presentation - Lots of construction stuff still up around the area, a big dirt hole to the right of the switchbacks, confetti still all over the place from media day. The inside part of the queue had no working A/C, so it was hot and very humid from all the sweaty bodies standing inside. The floor inside the building is also a mess. It's like they told the construction crew: "don't worry about spilling paint on the floor because we're gonna do a finish coat on it"... and then they just didn't. Also, the paint on the coaster supports looks SUPER patchy and weird, especially near the ride entrance. Like they got scuffed up and someone fixed them with red spray paint. Extra weird thing - The entrance and exit of Batman have switched so that Batman and WW can share one exit path. Except there was no sign, so we walked off WW directly into the Batman queue and kept going onto the ride. Wasn't a big issue in the moment since there was virtually no line, but that better get fixed quickly before fights start about people cutting the line. -- The whole experience gave me the mental scenario of the construction project manager sending an email update saying "Hey everyone, we're almost to the end. We'll be ready to open in 3-4 weeks." And then someone from marketing replying "We just announced the opening day, so actually you have 2 weeks. Figure it out."1 point

I would ride a looping star over most more modern coasters with inversions, since those with OTSR’s beat you up in some way. Olympia Looping is a legitimate top 25 coaster. Mindbender is the second most intense coaster I’ve ever been on (#1 is the original dodonpa). Lisebergbanan is a top tier mine train/non inverting style coaster.1 point

Man what??!? Nostalgia for old people?!? Most of their rides are terrible among today's coasters?!? Some of today's coasters cannot hold a candle to some schwarzkopf coasters. How many "todays" coasters have been torn down while parks opt to keep their coasters for "old people" lol? It's not our fault we appreciate and cherish good engineering and well thought out layouts.1 point

oh this "lightning lane" scheme was great, just so easy to get reservations all throughout the day and evening. Sunday afternoon: 12:30pm cali screamin -> 2pm gotg + 2:30pm spider-man -> 4pm toy story midway mania -> 6pm splash mountain PLUS a 5:20pm rise of the resistance -> 8pm grizzly river run -> 9pm world of color -> 10:45pm space mountain!!! other thoughts: * "45 min" wait for rise of the resistance!! (just outside the caves, we waited twice and used two lighting lanes over the two days!) * Easy to get into the cantina bar around 9pm Sat off the app waitlist!!! * Best way to fly the falcon: after visiting the cantina, during the fireworks, oh I crashed so many times1 point

^What he said. Anything in or near the third trimester in this heat isn't a great idea. Although I like the heat, and I like moving around, SDC really is hot in the summer. Well shaded, but there are definitely blacktop heat islands... I'm no OBGYN, but I recommend making sure she has a A LOT of water and regular shaded rests. I would say next year seems like a better option, but if you're like us, your park visits are going to drastically decrease for a couple years.1 point
