^^The only reason I even included "possibly" is that I suspect that since this is a record, the Mega Millions agency may place a stipulation that in order to claim the money, the ticket holder has to claim it in person. It's been done in the past for legal reasons very occasionally (and in those cases, it may have been the state lottery commissions, not Mega Millions itself, making the stipulation), but in this instance, it's a PR dream come true.

^Everyone always says they can make more by investing, and if I won a paltry $12 million, I might do that. But the way I see it, $640 million in the hand is worth $1 billion in the bush. And as Forrest Gump's mama said, "There's only so much fortune a man really needs. The rest is just for showing off."

When push comes to shove, the smart thing to do would probably be to just take the lump sum and live off the interest. But the only people who ever accused me of being smart were dumber than I am.

^ its funny, I would normally advocate taking the annuity, mostly for guaranteed income. But, honestly, in this case, the value of the annuity is more than 100M less than the cash option, even at a modest 6% discount! Plus, taxes are going to rise eventually, and at these levels, even a couple % increase could really increase future tax liabilities on annuity payments a lot, so might as well take the hit today.

Apart from the new Ferrari, of course.

For the record, I could currently still find my dream Ferrari for under 50k.

EDIT: ^ LOL. Or at least one running from the house to the garage. ::lol::

It is high enough for me to play for the first time in 15 years. I have $21 in tickets.

If cutting and pasting between play lines is allowed I may get $10, otherwise it's a big $0 for me too.

We have 3 winning tickets in Illinois, Kansas, and Maryland! The three winners will each get a third of $640 million. If I did my math right, that is approximately $213.33 million

After taxes, they'll be lucky if they would keep $100 million.
