...coasters...
Basically, even though it rained all day (Sunday) and John, Laura, and I couldn't feel our bodies... this trip rocked because there was NO ONE there. Oh yeah, and they closed the park at 1:30, and at that point we had ridden Raging Bull 4 times, Vertical Velocity 3 times, Viper twice, Batman once, Giant Drop once, Superman once, Demon once, Rue Le Dodge once, American Eagle (red track) once, Columbia Carousel once, Sky Trek Tower once, Space Shuttle America once, and Ricochet once. All in all, it was fantastic!! John and Laura will post some of their own pics in this thread...so, more pics are coming!!! Also, we will be doing more of this throughout the summer, and once I buy a better memory card, and it's not raining like crazy, there will be more pictures than this time! Until then, may your airtime be interminable, Thomas EDIT: In order to view this post correctly...scroll to the bottom and go up... honestly, it's more fun that way This was easily our longest wait of the day... we just LOVE getting there before they open the gates This was the parking lot... kind of ridiculous The fullest it ever got was MAYBE two full rows. This was the Viper Station before we got on. A rare picture of me with our new Ride-Op friend, Kyle. An awesome picture thanks to Kyle the Ride-Op!! (wow, I'm in this one too!!) This was the Viper Station after our second ride in a row!!! We went up in Sky Trek Tower, and I got this pic throught the foggy window before we descended due to "Technical Difficulties" Laura on Rue Le Dodge...in a car that didn't work... haha, I had fun running into her since she couldn't move. It was a laughfest! John and Laura ride V2 three times in a row!! Laura riding the Carousel... I'm pretty sure we were the only three people on it, it was kinda creepy to have all those lonely horses riding around us... hahaha! I took this picture of John and Laura with our SFGAM Ride-Op Buddies Kyle and Bradley (left to right) We had walk-ons for every ride but this one, where we waited for one train to get the front row!! (gotta love the empty station behind John and Laura) We left at 1:30 PM, after getting free tickets for another day, and went to... JOE'S CRAB SHACK!!! (why is John peering at me through the window!! YIKES!!) Started off with some salad (my exact words were, "the food always seems to make the trip reports") This stuff was SOOO good...we ALL got a different combination of shrimp and snow crab and it was AMAZING!!! CoasterCrazy
Awesome Photo TR! I will never forget the day that I visited SFA last summer in the rain and I still got to ride all of the coasters in the park. Its fun visiting parks when its cold or raining if the rides are open because its not something that you get to do all the time.

coaster_maniac
Ok, so I'm the guy in the Cedar Point Hoodie in those pictures.. now it's time for my TR. It all started on Saturday.. aka opening day.. here we go.. And we end off the day with a picture of both Bradley AND Kyle.. we're just too cool. No, really. Me on the carousel.. I don't really know what the face was all about.. but I'm having fun! On to day 2... (which started off with 4 consecutive rides on Raging Bull) And then we met another AWESOME ride op, Kyle.. who apparently is one of Bradley's friends. Small world huh? Oh wait, they work at the same park.. guess it's not THAT small.. Laura and me right before one of the most painful rides on Demon we've ever experienced. GO ARROW! Did you know that you can get a great bicep workout at an amusement park.. just by playing this game? Look how excited we are to ride Trailblazer! Excuse me, do you have any complicated beef? Another picture that you have to know Dane Cook to understand. We found this guy who's shirt said "I bleed if you shoot me in the chest plate." HILARIOUS. Their parade was ROCKIN' as you can tell from the fact that I was gettin jiggy with Daffy Wow, there are actually flowers here? And they don't look like crap? Way to go, Great America! They had this really cool ceremony for the Justice League.. they had all of them jump out of an airplane into the park.. ok, well it wasn't real... they didnt actually jump out of the plane.. but they made it look like they did.. Deja Vu isn't operating today? Hmm.. that's odd. It's usually so reliable.. Bradley the Ride Op--our new best friend. And apparently he's on TPR.. where are you, Bradley? Come out, come out, wherever you are! Ok, so only people who know Dane Cook will get this picture.. If you don't get it, then just move on to the next one.. Look at the pretty new banners! So here's a current photo of Tornado. As you can see the support structure is 100% in place.. but the actual funnel.. yeah, not so much. That'd hurt like a b*tch to slide down.. don't ya think? Usually the crappier the weather (while still leaving the rides operational).. the better! I'll sometimes try and plan a trip on a crappy-weather day, just because the lines wont be very long, AND you can brag about how CRAZY you are that you're riding coasters in the rain.. hahah! Swimace
I went to IOA one day one superbowl sunday when it was drizzling. All the rides were up and all of the rides were walk-ons. They would let us get off a DD train and run and get on the other track and then send the trains out. Fire-Ice-Fire-Ice over and over again until I got like 8 rides on each! BeemerBoy
Nice PTR guys. Time for my quick "I remember one time when it was raining and the park was empty story." I can remember IOA one day in January ('00?) when a buddy and I renewed our season passes. It was about 50 degrees with steady drizzle all day. That just meant the park was basically empty. We got strapped into DD, began up the lift hill, and BAM....downpour as we reached the top. Needless to say, not even the cash in my pocket was dry after that ride....but at least we were riding Fire. Sometimes those are the best days if you can grit it out. Glad you all enjoyed yourselves. JamesMC
I'll be headed to SFGA in the next couple weeks. I like to go the first week they are open to the public on weekdays, usually all the lines are 15 min or less, nice weather or not. Last coaster trip I took was in August to SFSL- (rained 90% of the day) but hey, bought a poncho, sucked it up, got on ALL the rides multiple, multiple times (even though they weren't all SUPPOSED to be water rides) and had myself a blast. Way to carry on- wish I'd a chance to be there with ya in the rain n rides.
Rugged One
Great pics everyone. It's awesome to see some people not letting a little rain get in the way of their fun. Also, it's nice to see the Dane Train and the Su Fi get some respect.

pvcoasterguy
Looks like fun... Great America has (almost) always been a fun park. The rides are fun, the employees good, and the operations efficient. In my opinion, it is the star Six Flags park. While it may not have the huge new rides that some of the others do (ahem, Magic Mountain, GADV) the atmosphere more than makes up for it. And, you can ride Yankee Clipper, the flume ride with the most insane splashdown... ever. The boat literally jumps at the bottom of the huge drop, than tilts back, making the person at the back of the boat soaked. It's one of the few hydroflumes that still has the jump. It's jarring, insane, and totally worth the bruises you get from it.
