DanTheBooker Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Is launched wooden coaster possible? I don't see why not but I don't know a lot about the engineering aspect of coasters. As said above, RMC has stated that it's possible. An RMC launch seems very likely here. Herscend has experience with RMC. Also, I'd imagine the launch might be an S&S Launch as RMC and S&S seem to be working together and Herchend is familiar with the launch (powder keg)
rcjp Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 ^I had never thought about that. I had always assumed it would be a LSM launch but that's an interesting possibility.
SFOGdude25 Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 I think a launch on a wood coaster is definitely doable. RMC would just need to add headrests to their trains if the launch is powerful enough, and the structure would just be specially built to support the forces. Whether they would use a compressed air system or LSM system, I'm not sure.
larrygator Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Just because something can be done, don't assume it is a great idea.
I305forever Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 (edited) What will the point of a launched wooden coaster? Won't it pretty much just be like an intamin? Edit: That was poorly worded. I didn't mean that intamin is making launched woodies, I meant that a launched rmc would probably have transitions and inversions like launched intamins such as Maverick and ispeed. jarmor Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Im not understanding why a launch wooden coaster be like an intamin???
Password121 Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Yeah those Intamin launched woodies are quite booming in demand these days
coastercody75 Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Yeh a launched rmc woodie would be perfect for dollywood
ernierocker Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 ^^ and ^^^ Just another one of his quality posts...
I305forever Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 I was assuming the launched wooden coaster would be an RMC, which are kind of like intamins.

dollywoodguy75 Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Where would this ride go rockin roadway is still open but a spot out from thunderhead has been cleared and grass has been sowed into the hill directly from the lift hill

Dollywoodlover20 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Where would this ride go rockin roadway is still open but a spot out from thunderhead has been cleared and grass has been sowed into the hill directly from the lift hill We are pretty sure it's going in at or around the Cas Walkers spot then stretching out from there. With the Hot Rod (Shot Rod) theme, I don't really see it fitting in up in Timber Canyon at all. That would be a type of theming Six Flags would do. With Rockin' Roadway, they'll keep it open until it comes time to actually get down to business. Probably late summer/early fall.
dollywoodguy75 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 What about splash country what will be added their next

It makes more sense to keep the ride open through the busy summer month, and work on other portions of the ride first. And as far as the clearing by Thunderhead, pretty sure they are relocating some of the maintenance buildings there that were displaced by the parking lot expansion.
WildEagle2014 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 At the park this morning...hard to believe it, but they've already broken ground on the new 2016 attraction! It's hard to tell from the photo due to the leaves starting to come out on the trees, but a backhoe is on top of the hillside behind the hr building digging and pushing down trees, some of them pretty sizable. So excited!
jarmor Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Hoping and praying not too many trees have to come down!
WildEagle2014 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I know right? It would be awesome to have the entire ride going through the forest.
WildEagle2014 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Rockin' Roadway is down as soon as it opened.
ASE Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 wow, they're not wasting time on the hill! Thanks for the new pics! Can you tell how far to the left on the hill they appear to be going? The surveyors were right in line with the water tower on Rockin' Roadway when I was there last week....that's as far over as I saw them go. Wondering if it'll extend all the way down to Country Fair.
WildEagle2014 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 It appears the green flags actually go all the way around the hillside behind the fence at the sign shop (they are all over the area circled in green). When I left the park the top of the mountain looked like it had been cleared off (area in red).
Iron Wolf 90-11 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I'm confused, I thought rockin roadway was the ride by cas walker. Is this not true? I am confused witj what has all been demolished and such. Any help or explaining would be greatly appreciated.
RyanTPM Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 ^Rockin Roadway is the ride next to Cas Walkers, it has not been demolished. The only thing that has been demolished is Cas walkers, the new ride should take up the area behind it.
