coasterfreaky Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 ^They haven't announced a date yet for it. They said construction would be visable when the park opens on the 23rd of March, or 22nd if you're a passholder.
Bobby2889 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I'm so excited to find out what they have in store for us! My guess is a new dark ride.
SuperShawn Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Dark ride, coaster, or other it's bound to be great and just another good excuse to get back to the park. I'm particularly interested in seeing what progress has already been made next week and getting an idea of just how large this next project will be.
Guy T. Koepp Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Yeah, I'm kinda bummed that I'm not gonna be able to get out there till the end of April. Hopefully we'll get an announcement soon. Or, perhaps they'll just do what SDC did for so long. What construction? I don't see any construction. I have no idea what your talking about. Have you tried our cinnebread at the Gristmill? Thank you for riding the Thunderhead. Go forth and spread the good word of the Lord. Praise Jesus.
SuperShawn Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 ^ you forgot the ever important saying "have a blessed day"
coasterfreaky Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 ^^Yeah, they pretty much did that with Wild Eagle too. Construction all spring and summer with the announcement at Knoxville's Labor Day festival. If theres any truth to the rumours, it could be a Rocky Mountain Coaster, but we shall see!!
Guy T. Koepp Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 The people that I talked to on the last day of operation seemed to think it was going to be a very large enclosed structure. The only thing they would say is that it would be a, "one of a kind" attraction and that we would be able to see the construction right at the beginning of the new season. And that it would be big. Now if that construction includes the destruction of Adventure Mountain I don't know. But knowing the way Dollywood handles things, they will be able to work year round even during the operating season to have it ready for us on opening day 2014.
jray21 Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 As long as they serve Cinnamon Bread, I really don't care if they add anything new. That park does really seem to have their stuff together when building rides. It's definitely one of my favorite parks.
G-Force! Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 I'm reading reports that a massive fire is taking place in Pigeon Forge near Dollywood. Hope everyone makes it out ok. Here's a link to the page on CNN :http://www.cnn.com/2013/03/18/us/tennessee-fire/index.html?hpt=hp_t3
thrillerman1 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A brush fire burned property at the Dollywood theme park in East Tennessee, but a park official says the fire will not affect the season opening next weekend. Pigeon Forge Fire Department crews were fighting the fire at Dollywood until about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night and a few firefighters remained on the site overnight for observation. Park spokesman Pete Owens told The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/103Dqqv ) that visitors who come to the opening next weekend might see the side of the hill that burned, but there was no real property damage. He said the fire began about 4:40 p.m. on Saturday and was probably ignited by a stray ember from the park's train. It spread through about 10 acres of wooded area. http://www.wsmv.com/story/21663479/brush-fire-wont-affect-opening-of-dollywood-park
coasterfreaky Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 ^ & ^^ Just to clarify - those are two different fire events that happened near each other. One was at Dollywood as a result of the train sparking. The other fire, much larger, started as a house fire somewhere near Dollywood and spread quickly b/c it hasn't rained here in a while...but its supposed to rain today! The people that I talked to on the last day of operation seemed to think it was going to be a very large enclosed structure. The only thing they would say is that it would be a, "one of a kind" attraction and that we would be able to see the construction right at the beginning of the new season. And that it would be big. Interesting! Whatever it is, i'm sure it will be well done, but what could it be i wonder? I would love to see something like Darkcastle ride at BGW, which is amazing. I've not ridden the Spiderman version, but i understand it to be just as impressive. If they could incorporate Dolly into one of the hollograms, omg that would be a big win win! That would be my choice.
ernierocker Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 The other fire is in the Wears Valley area which is further south and on the opposite side of the parkway from Dollywood. I would love for Dollywood to put in a dark ride. Blazing Fury has a dark ride portion, but I still always felt the park needed one since they removed Flooded Mine.
Bobby2889 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 I think Blazing Fury is a proper dark ride, I would just like to see something with up to date or new technology implemented. I've always thought an update to Blazing Fury would be suitable, however I enjoy its old school charm and I think bringing a dark ride with a different ride system and different overall style will make help take some of the modern day pressure of the need for technology off of BF. When was the last time Dollywood really installed a true family attraction?
coasterfreaky Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 When was the last time Dollywood really installed a true family attraction? Well, you'll need to elaborate on that a little more. If you ask Dollywood that question, they would likely reply that every single addition they've added is a "family attraction". Some are just more thrilling than others. In 2004 or 2005 they completely re-did the Country Fair area, adding all sorts of new kiddie and family rides. They've added a lot of rides and three coasters to the park since that time, an explosion of growth really.
BeemerBoy Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 When was the last time Dollywood really installed a true family attraction? River Battle and Adventure Mountain....both within the last 5 years.
Bobby2889 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Good point. I don't consider Wild Eagle a family attraction... I guess AM is/was a family attraction as well as River Battle... Those are the only ones I can think of That have been added since the County Fair refurb that are family attractions...
TyRush Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Maybe we could see a "family" coaster that includes this alleged huge building. A Verbolten type coaster could be an option. I have never been to Dollywood so i dont know how much room we are talking here, But on the other hand i wonder if they would invest that much money again for a coaster after they just opened Wild Eagle?
Bobby2889 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 That's a great idea I think. It's been said that the budget is between Mystery Mine and Wild eagle, so that's what 17-22 million? I'm unfamiliar with the cost of Verbolten, but it will be interesting to see this project start taking shape as well as how the theming comes about.

Those are the only ones I can think of That have been added since the County Fair refurb that are family attractions... Wild Eagle has the lowest height requirement of any B&M, if I'm not mistaken....which was something the park worked with B&M to get more families to ride it
Bobby2889 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 I realize that and that's why I specifically pointed out that I don't consider it a family ride, I guess it comes down to opinions. When I think of a family attraction I think of something that my mom would go on with me. Blazing Fury for example is something that my entire family always does. River Battle, Smokey Mountain River Rampage , Slidewinder, Daredevil Falls, Blazing Fury and of course the shows and train. Something that really attracts the entire family, to me Wild Eagle alienates some people because (for some unfathomable reason) people are afraid of inversions. Most of the attractions I listed are water rides. I'd really like to see a nice dark ride that the whole family would enjoy or a family coaster (without inversions). For me a family ride isn't just something with a low height restriction, it's something that the whole family can enjoy.
ernierocker Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Pete said it will be something the entire family can enjoy, so you can interpret it however you want. I am leaning towards a dark ride and not an enclosed coaster.

Something on the lines of Antarctica at Seaworld Florida. Only some kind of Moonshine theme.

Can it please be some of the creatures from that TV show?
Geauga Dog Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Haven't been to Dollywood yet but considering how Herschend thinks out of the box on some of their attractions would something like DarKastle but maybe themed to feuding brothers who own a distillery fit in among their other attractions?
