Ed Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 I've only seen a couple of pictures of the restraints on the 4D... But they don't look safe at all to me.. There's no leg holder and they look kinda flimsy... How exactly do they work?
Wes Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Oh yeah they're totally unsafe, that's why countless people are flying out of them everyday. Basically you push the two sides together, and then there is an extra buckle. And there is a BIG leg holder, the giant purple crotch of death. Look at these pic for a better idea: http://www.parkfunworld.be/coasterdumois/2002/x10.jpg http://www.themeparkreview.com/solace04/solace38.jpg It's different, but I wouldn't consider it flimsy in the least. The restraints are the least of the ride's problems.
CoasterCrazy Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 The restraints on X aren't flimsy! I agree with Wes, the restraints are least of X's problems.
Angry_Gumball Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 You pretty much put it on like you're wearing a vest or jacket. That purple hump looks quite uncomfortable.

And there is a BIG leg holder, the giant purple crotch of death. I said they don't look safe.. Didn't say people flew out of them... Although a few select people are welcome to do so... Ok I see the jacket and purple thing.. But are your knees free to bend outwards as your going round? It just seems wierd to me that your legs are free to shake about..
Wes Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Ok I see the jacket and purple thing.. But are your knees free to bend outwards as your going round? It just seems wierd to me that your legs are free to shake about.. It has the same amount of freedom as any inverted or floorless B&M. You can bend your knees outward on those. Is there really much of a difference between this: And this:
Ed Posted January 31, 2006 Author Posted January 31, 2006 But you don't go down vertical drops on Floorless rides.. I suppose if you've been on it then it's fine. I just don't like the idea of my legs flailing everywhere.
Wes Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Deja Vu is an inverted and it features a vertical drop.
Twister II Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 But you don't go down vertical drops on Floorless rides.. I suppose if you've been on it then it's fine. I just don't like the idea of my legs flailing everywhere. Ok, if you don't feel like the ride is safe, or you just don't feel comfortable riding X, then don't ride. But you can be for sure that the restraints are safe, and your legs will not be flying everywhere. I've been on it a few times, I thought the ride was a great experience, and if you do decide to ride, I hope you have a good one too.
Carnage Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 But you don't go down vertical drops on Floorless rides.. Floorless rides go over vertical if you count inversions. The only odd thing I felt about X was that it kind of forces your legs out to the side unlike on a floorless, etc where your legs face straight. But it's very secure feeling.
phazan Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 i like x's restraints better than most over the shoulder restraints. i like the way you pull them down first, cause it gets them away from most of your head, getting rid of some head banging.
Gnome Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 ^ for the most part, Arrow's don't have a problem with side to side head banging, its more your head slamming on the head rest kind.
SharkTums Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 The restraints are nice in that there's no headbanging, but my legs get beat to crap smacking against the trains!
Carnage Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 And as long as you hold on. I found not holding on tended to toss you around like a rag doll.
ebl Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 "The restraints are nice in that there's no headbanging, but my legs get beat to crap smacking against the trains!" (SharkTums) Exactly why I wish they'd have had some way to restrain your legs. For that reason, I usually avoid X. A few rides of mine have been particularly painful. But I give kudos to the OTSR part of the restraint system. Being vertically adjustable is the key to the comfort of it. I make it as snug as I can so I don't go bouncing around during the ride. Too bad most other ride manufacturers haven't done it, though TOGO and Schwarzkopf have had variations on that. Eric
DisWiz Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 The one time I had the chance to ride X I came off with a very bad charley horse from my legs getting beat all around. I also think it did something to my appendix (as I was in Xtreme pain the day after SFMM and had to go the hospital and have it taken out)
SonOfBeastSucks Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 I have flown right off of X so many times, those damn restraints are to blame! The ride is so fun though I think it is worth spending the six months in a coma.
phazan Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 The restraints are nice in that there's no headbanging, but my legs get beat to crap smacking against the trains! oh yes! i forgot about that! the next few days my legs were all sore! they were all bruised up!
Freefallbestrideever Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I don't know, i've been on x several times and i don't have any problems..............
benzo41190 Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 When I rode it this summer, I did not know that the outside seats are the worse. So I go on and I almost killed my balls. At beign 6' 3" my crotch kept hitting that purple thing and my knees were a little sore. The next time, I sat on the inside.
Blazen_AZN Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Its funny, i had a dream i fell out of X just kast night. (and no, most of my dreams don't include rollercoasters... they usually involve... uhh... nevermind.) But i actually like X's restraints alot and think they also feel more secure then most OTSRs. I never knew what everybody's problem with X was... Its actually my favorite ride. I guess that's cuz i have really freakin muscular legs, (im serious, DDR and soccer and track DONNOT mix). Guess that tells ya somthing, if they just restrain your legs like they do on the fliers (or just put padding on the trains) the ride would be alot more enjoyable.
ebl Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 ^^ I've had some very rough rides on inside seats, and I've had some good rides on outside seats, so for me, it really doesn't make much of a difference. Hopefully someone will re-engineer that contraption. Eric
Ed Posted February 6, 2006 Author Posted February 6, 2006 Ok, if you don't feel like the ride is safe, or you just don't feel comfortable riding X, then don't ride. I've been on it a few times, I thought the ride was a great experience, and if you do decide to ride, I hope you have a good one too. Don't get me wrong i'd ride it.. I'm just a bit miffed as to why there aren't aren't any leg restraints... On POV's i've seen of it you go down the drop head right? But to get to the that you flip forwards and in doing so your legs if you weren't pulling them in would go out and then at the bottom of the drop they'd like smack against the car... Maybe that's why X fell apart
dougr Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 The restraints are nice in that there's no headbanging, but my legs get beat to crap smacking against the trains! oh yes! i forgot about that! the next few days my legs were all sore! they were all bruised up! On rides like Fireball and Inverter and Top Spin, I find myself clenching the bottom of the seat with my calves and heels. It helps me feel a little more secure in the inversions.
