Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

The two Justice League: Battle For Metropolis (SFOT and SFSL) rides are the same thing in different buildings, both will have the exact same technology and the exact same storyline (which will be the bigger size wise of the two I don't know). Sally Corp. is not the only company behind the ride (they are the main one), from the press release -

Lifelike animatronic super heroes designed by Sally Manufacturing, the industry leader in dark rides

3D graphics and film produced by Pure Imagination, the gurus of Computer Generated Imagery

Robust gaming elements by Alterface, renowned for their work in site-based interactive game play

First-of-its-kind, fully programmable, multi-DOF (degree-of-freedom) vehicles that will transport guests through all the exciting twists and turns designed by Oceaneering.

Does anyone else think that the super loopers actually look kind of fun? I'd gladly take one over a boomerang, but I can't believe SF is trying to market them as roller coasters. That and my last several SF experiences are why I am really starting to hate hate hate SF.

I for one am very excited about the dark ride. It is state-of-the-art and I like the Justice League theming (albeit overused). In 2016 I'll BET it will be an RMC Boss or the 360 loopers that people are getting(which would be a major slap to the face after we got a 25 year old relocated Boomerang).

After recent research, SFStL seems like one of the more "balanced" Six Flags, in that they have a solid assortment of different types of rides, such as their legit steam train and legit carousel. It's actually kind of rare for a park to have a great selection of coasters, a legit steam train, AND a legit carousel all at the same time. Plus, they have the second-tallest traditional Ferris wheel (open air gondolas) in the US (#1: Texas Star at the State Fair of Texas) and it looks like they are going to get a decent dark ride next year. Is this an accurate assessment, in you opinion?

Alright, after seeing this years announcement, I'm really hopeful that we will be seeing an RMC redo on the Boss next year.

SFDK got Superman.

SFMM is getting Iron Colossus

SFOG got Dare Devil Dive.

SFGA has gotten Goliath and X-Flight.

SFNE is getting Wicked Colossus.

SFGA got Zumanjaro and Green Lantern recently.

SFFT has gotten Iron Rattler, 4D Free Fly

SFOT has gotten New Texas Giant + tallest Skyscreamer in the world

SFM got Iron Medusa

La Ronde hasn't gotten much.

SFA actually hasn't gotten much.

Great Escape... actually desperately needs something, but they just... won't.

And our lovely home park of SFSTL.

We are one of four parks in the Six Flags chain that haven't gotten anything major since 2010. Six Flags has a contract with RMC to only build their Iron Horse creations in Six Flags parks (domestically), and in return, they have to spend at least so much $ with RMC per year. 2016 is our year. I swear to god if they avoid putting anything in 2016, we will be tied with SFA for being more neglected ride-wise than any other Six Flags parks in the US. SDC has gotten Outlaw Run and is getting a brand new family area, eating away both our family demographic and our thrill-seeker demographic. The addition of the B&M Wing Rider at Holiday World is just another way HW is starting to take up our park goers. SFGA can boast TWO major additions since 2012. And Worlds of Fun is most likely getting a coaster next year as well. If any park is in desperate need of a major addition, it's Six Flags St. Louis (actually, so does SFA... but I'm sure they're unhappy too). I think 2016 is our year. I desperately hope so. I think Justice League looks great, but it's not enough. I truly believe 2016 is our year, and if it isn't... I give up.

This is my opinion after riding a Fireball (the Super Loops are taller and I believe they have better restraints):

Yes, they do look like a lot of fun. However, the hangtime on them is extremely painful with the god-awful restraints (however, like I said before, I think the newer models have improved restraints).

Anyways...back to SFSTL...

After reading through comments on the new ride (not just on here, there are comments like this on Facebook), I am shocked less people are excited. People CANNOT seem to make up their mind on what they want of our park:

Public: We want some more theming! Why can't the rides at this park have any theming? Also, Scooby-Doo always seems to have effects not working, and the capacity is dreadful.

Six Flags: Hey! Look guys, here is Justice League! A replacement for Scooby-Doo. It has better capacity, lots of theming, and it should be a great ride for the entire family.

Public: WTF! This is ridiculous. We loved Scooby-Doo! Sure, a park in the chain is getting a year-round haunt as its addition, one is getting a pirate splash area, and four are getting crappy carnival rides. But we want more.

I do agree that Justice League was a good addition. It's fitting for this year, and I'm looking forward to trying it. It's definitely better than a Boomerang or Superloop crap. It sets us up really well for a large coaster addition in 2016. I'm just saying, we really do need a thrill ride next year. Something big, something unique, and something to get everyone back into the park.

No, my comment was in no way directed at you. It wasn't really directed at any person in this thread. Just on other websites and the SFSTL facebook and twitter pages. I agree that we need a new thrill ride next year.

I like this addition..

It fits in perfectly for this area.

New Technology a refresh to this building...

I personally liked the Scooby Doo ride but when I took my son and friends (all 8 years old) they didn't want anything to with it. Which really surprised me because my son could watch Scooby Doo all day long,

My only concern with this new ride is Six Flags going to keep up with the upkeep for this ride. We saw how bad Scooby got with little attention over the years.. How many years will we have the 3d glasses. how long before some of the videos no longer work.

I will be the contrarian here. I was really hoping for a water park expansion. Sure a big steel coaster or Iron Boss would be awesome, but generally STL is so hot and humid I would rather spend most of my day in the water. This year was a real fluke and I was hoping for one last lazy day on the river but the forecast is not looking great.

I sure hope the new dark ride lives up to its promise as a break from the heat and it will give my 9YO low key rider something to do. A couple of weeks ago I couldn't get him to even ride the Ferris wheel even though he has been on it for the last 4 years. Ug.

My big question. So WHEN in 2015 does it open? Are we going to have to wait until Memorial Day?

A big thumbs up to HWfan for being the our in house GR rep and giving great PM help. Your the best!

I think this is a solid set up, I think the ride needs to win over the GP with action you can tell anyone "yeah its going to be awesome"but a dark ride will never hold up over spoken word and SF promo videos like a coaster will you cant spit out specs like "300ft Tall!" it would just be "Its Dark and super hero's show up" it doesn't work. Once the ride is up, obviously people are going to try it out and I think its at that point the ride will start to gain its acceptance/popularity...... Off topic here but we were talking about SF setting up for bulk orders, anybody know of a giant loop manufacturer that is having an out of business sale because SF hit the jackpot apparently I am glad we will not be seeing those for at least 10 years when we are given one..ahhhh I kid.

I think this is a good move, including that ours may not spin. After being at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, the thing that ruined "The Curse of DarKastle" was the spinning part. It made an otherwise enjoyable dark ride into a try your best to keep from barfing. Also the turning element is just another thing to break and act up causing the ride to be shut down more often.

While I would prefer a more original topic than Justice League, I'll take it any day over Scooby Doo.

They can advertise the 3D element to the ride along with things like "ride with your favorite hero's as they save the day" and stuff like that. As much as I would love the park to get one of the coasters that I want, the fact is if a park becomes about nothing other than coasters, the park becomes unbalanced and becomes rather bland (SFMM). Six Flags needed to invest in this as Scooby Doo is once again no longer relevant. They also need focus on getting the family part of the park stronger so then when they finally add a noteworthy rollercoaster, the park will seem more complete and patrons will want to return. The park needs to shake the "old park" reputation and this is a part of the process.

God, seriously shut up. When it happens I'll stick my foot in my mouth, GGGLLLLAAAADDLLLLYYYY.

but... it's not going to happen. We've all been wishing and hoping for RMC, a hyper, or something with modern steel literally before you were born. I've been personally let down for 14 years running.

Wish in one hand and crap in the other. Let me know which hand fills up first.

I'll give you that one. MM was a dump when I went 2 years ago. I've never been so unhappy around so many roller coasters. I think a lot of that is attributed to the down rides and run down areas of the park, though. It was like the park took zero pride in its coasters. Kind of like sitting a Ferrari on blocks in your front yard and letting it rot away.

Out of all the parks that haven't gotten an RMC yet, SFSTL sounds like it would be the most likely one to get one next. I could see one at SFGAD, even though they have El Toro. I'd guess next year will be Iron Boss here and a brand-new RMC at SFGAD.
