thrillrider
It's time for my annual cedarpoint winter tour. I want to give props to cedarpoint and there staff for putting this event on. Cedarpoint staff volunteered there time to help, and we raised $27,000 for give kids the world. The weather was perfect for a winter tour, as the snow was falling. This year there seems to be a lot more than normal going on. Here are just a few of the highlights. 1. New restraints for maverick 2. New sweet shop next to the pagoda gift shop. 3. Say goodbye to turnpike cars and sir rub a dubs tubs. 4. Bumper cars and crazy cars are being moved to the wicked twister midway. Calypso is also moving there with a new name(tiki twist). 5. Good time theater is about gone. 6. Nickstroberg
Great report! That one picture puzzles me though, it looks like a piece of MilF's train, but painted the color of rougarou's supports..? That is unless my eyes aren't working properly. Very intrigued. Thanks for taking the time to put this all together for us!

FaithPlus1
I freaking love this place! I really liked the one pic of Sky Hawk. That perspective made it look huge! Also, all those picks of Mean Streak made me sit and dream about what RMC could do with this already beautiful structure?
ajfelice
Great Photos! I was really impressed with the event overall. The best part was really the park staff who volunteered their time to make everything possible. The snow piled up faster that the forecasts called for, but it never seemed like any one of them were bothered to be out in the cold, or bothered to be "at work" when travel conditions (especially in the morning) were questionable at best. My group's tour guide, Matt, was very welcoming to all kinds of questions, and he never at any point let the weather cut any corners of the tour. You wouldn't know he was guiding people through a snowstorm throughout the day. The content presented at the event was informative, but nothing earth-shattering. However, the important part was the opportunity to get out of town for a couple days to escape the winter cabin fever while supporting a good cause. thrillrider
Here are the pictures from maui sands resort in sandusky near cedarpoint. The resort is an indoor water park/hotel with a bar, arcade, snack bar, and restaurant during busy times. The resort needs some cosmetic work, but is worth a visit. The waterpark had more attractions than castaway bay, but no wave pool. We only stayed one night. They sell day passes to the waterpark as well. It's a good alternative to Kalahari if your going just for the waterpark. Here is the list of attrations in the waterpark. 1.Bowl slide 2.2 body slides 3. Raft slide 4. Lazy river 5. Family hot tub 6. Kiddy pool with slide 7. Bucket play structure with several slides 8. Basketball pool 9. Whirlpool 10. lilly pad walk(not sure what they call it) Where you have to balance on the floating pads with a net above you. We stayed the one night and had a few issues with the hotel part of the resort. First off, the Loooong line to check in was painfully slow. The entire resort needs some new paint and miner repairs. The room we stayed in was nice except for the stains on the carpet, overflowing toilet(we called and they came right up to fix), the broken plug, and the view from our room.We also reserved a crib for my son, and when we arrived we were told that they were out even though I was promised one. Another thing that I thought was kinda ghetto, was the room numbers in our hall were made of paper and taped next to the door. There was a huge room in the middle of the hotel with a few pool tables and chairs that looked under utilized. We payed $200 for one night, but the price listed on the door in the room listed it as a $800 per night room! There were also no elevators in our part of the hotel witch was a pain, and no sign telling you where the main entrance is. The long line to check in. View of the room from the door The kids bunk bed room Our paper room number View from our room....nice huh? Large unused area Here is the waterpark area There is a small window to the bar where you can order drinks Bar and restaurant area This is the main entrance with no signage

Jew
It looks like that Maui Sands place blew their budget on the Water Park.
cfc
^I agree. The waterpark looks OK, but the rest of the hotel is pretty drab.
Philrad71
Maui Sands looks like the result of the indoor water park at Mt. Olympus having a baby with the old Tropicana resort in Las Vegas.
thrillrider
The waterpark was decent. I would say that it was a couple clicks better than castaway bay as far as attractions go. The hotel portion of the resort however was a let down.
DirkFunk
I walked around Maui Sands last year and it was uproariously bad. The whole complex is a frankenstein's monster where an existing hotel was retrofitted into a water park resort. I found pictures online of that huge room with the pool tables being an indoor pool. As of last year, the rooms there were largely under renovation with layouts taped to the windows. A hallway off from that led to all this stacked construction material and chain link fencing. There's tons of essentially abandoned stuff sitting around and tape over signage pointing to things the water park resort never restored after it reopened. Oh, yeah, so it was closed for like 2-3 years and at one point former NFL running back Jamal Lewis was apparently interested in reopening it. There's that too. Personally, I'd pay like $80 to stay there with the water park included. The layout of it is so bad, the amenities so weird and messed up, like...comparing it to the Trop in Vegas is criminal. It is actually far weirder than that.
Jew
Sounds like it would be ripe for purchasing by a larger operator who could finish the renovations.
thrillrider
Sounds like it would be ripe for purchasing by a larger operator who could finish the renovations. I agree! There is a lot of room to expand the waterpark even more if they chose to do so.
viking86
I just went through all your pictures, love the look of Cedar Point in the snow! I always find it interesting to see all the work that goes on during the off-season and behind the scenes, particularly seeing the coaster trains stripped down to the framework. Overall a great report, enjoyed reading it very much!
