Hard Rock Park: Texas Edition

Hard Rock park at least got built, I doubt this well.

I would be very interested to see how a park of this scale would do in Texas. The population is certainly here, and land isn't at a shortage in the State. Granted, I would probably look towards Austin as where I would want to build, you've got a huge number of people (and rapidly growing) within a 3 hour radius.

Well today was the big day, Dreamvision Company announced it's plans for a 5,000 acre Theme Park named "DreamVision Mountain, Dreamscape Texas" a destination resort to be located near Ft. Worth. The site has been chosen but will not be announced until later as I suspect the land deals are not yet complete. I would however anticipate the park to be located along I-35W near Alliance Airport.

Overall the project looks like a combination of WDW Resort and Universal Orlando with shops, dining, a performing arts center, and hotels surrounding the Theme Park. The park will feature a transportation center which will be necessary for gaining access to the park itself (think Magic Kingdom), and will feature multiple themed lands that uses 'Hope River' as a tie in.

From the transportation center you will enter DreamVision Mountain. Dreamvision mountain will be the largest indoor winter skiing venue in the world and is being engineered by Malcolm Clulow, the same person who designed and engineered Ski Dubai. Skiing for all experience levels, snow tubing, bobsledding, and snowboarding among other activities will be offered.

Surrounding the mountain you will find multiple lands including Tinseltown, Metropolis (a New York city themed area), and Wild West. You can expect family friendly and thrill rides including at least one roller coaster. As you depart at the end of the day you will experience a fireworks show.

Dave Goodman has been named President of Dreamvision Theme Parks and has previously worked for Sea World and Walt Disney.

Overall details were still scarce but does appear to be funded by Provident Global LLC, and they will need a lot of it with an estimated cost of 3.5bn.

Here are the renderings:

Here are my notes from today's Press Conference which seemed to focus a lot on their upcoming animation projects and less on theme park for those that care to read them.

[*]Winter theme to the stage

[*]Musical group 'Ten' opened and closed the event

[*]President of Dreamvision Vince Silanksas "There is nothing impossible if you can dream"

[*]Formed partnership with Provident Global LLC, an in[*]vestment company from Muscle Shoales Alabama

[*]UnSung Hero, a new short CG animation movie was shown, featuring a night on a horse traveling through a forest and arriving at a castle and engaging in battle with a gargoyle caveman like character who gets poked in the butt with the Knight's sword. Turns out it was a kid and father pretending in the back yard. Kinda cool.

[*] Production has begun on Nadia, a full length animated musical and in development for a stage musical

[*]New partnership formed with the Thomas Kinkade Company

[*]Thomas Kinkade's dream was to have a theme park and was a Texan at heart and discussed it with Deamvision before his death

[*]Winter themed park located in a 'mountain' with multiple themed lands

[*]Multiple shops and restaurants will lead to the transportation center that takes you to the theme park

[*]Will have a performing arts center

[*]Winter sports will be featured inside the mountain for skiing using real snow along with a bobsled track.

[*]Dreamscape Metropolis will feature the new york stock exchange roller coaster, taxi cab bumper cars, and a broken empire state elevator ride

[*]Dreamscape Wild West - featuring campfires and classic foods

[*]Dreamscape Tinseltown - Hollywood themed area with limited details announced

[*]Fireworks at night at closing

[*]Target opening date of 2020

[*]Cost of 3.5 billion dollars

[*]Dave Goodman - It's about hope and Joy that makes you want to come back. They are going to create experiences in a big a different way. They are going try and connect families with thrill rides, softrides for children, and other experiences. Says it's a mammoth task and they are moving forward and quick. They will move purposeful and will be friendly.

[*]Dave Goodman - Will not bulldoze people and seek community relations and input

[*]Malcolm Clulow- will design and engineer the largest indoor skiing project (inside the mountain) in the world that will feature slopes for novices and professionals. He also designed Ski Dubai among many other snow projects. Technology used was developed in the US but until now has not been used in the US.

[*]Dreamvision Alabama - announcement on Wed at 11am

Will update with animations and whatnot when they become available.

[*]President of Dreamvision Vince Silanksas "There is nothing impossible if you can dream"

LOL

They sure do know how to throw around some industry names though. I mean, if it weren't for the $3.5 Billion price tag I'd have a little faith that this could be a possibility.

So their "investment firm" is what's based out of Muscle Sholes? Are they really going to propose a second $3.5 billion park over there, or will it be something like studios?

Yep, the investment arm is out of Muscle Shoales along with a 2nd park with a different theme.

Dallas isn't a terrible spot to try I guess, it's very central, growing quickly, airport and roads are good and far from the majors on each coast. But I think their scale is pretty clearly off. These are the kinds of resorts that are designed to attract people who are flying in to experience them, based on track records of success (investments, intellectual properties?) that already exist in some form. There is no track record, the design plans look extremely early-stage, and the press coming out is...not polished (bordering on poor). It's just a nope. I give them a 1 percent chance of that level of investment happening and a five percent chance that anything gets built. The ski area would be novel for this market...

Also, the stock exchange and Earthquake roller-coasters for such fabulous lands as NYC, Hollywood and "Western" sound like an honest joke. I wish them the best though.

I've got to agree with the potential location out near Alliance Airport. There is a ton of open land out there as all you really have is the airport and Texas Motor Speedway. Plus it's a very central location that is pretty close to the main airport. Location wise it's actually a pretty great spot for a park. I'm not sure if I'm sold on winter theme, trying to sell a winter theme in DFW during the middle of August is going to be hard.

I don't think this happens, but if nothing else it has made me think about what a great spot they (likely) have picked for a major attraction like this. I'm not sure the funding comes together, but I think there is a universe where this thing could survive if done right. Might want to go ahead and hire better artists though for the drawings, it was looking a little coloring book quality there.

Little bit more:

I just get this feeling that they have good intentions, they certainly have big dreams and all dreamers have good intentions. And they spent a chunk of change on the event so they obviously have some R&D money. However the first 20 minutes talked about their current projects in CGI work and the adaptation of Nadia into a Broadway Musical.

As to why they haven't been talking with the city of Ft. Worth, who knows, but you would think you would want them, the county, the state, and the chamber involved (non-disclosures are common on these types of unannounced projects which would keep it clear of the freedom of information act) so that you could take advantage of any and all economic development incentives. Afterall Texas is handing out inventives like candy and businesses like Toyota are swallowing them whole. They would also be instrumental in helping to secure land and develop infrastructure. In 5 years to build a themepark of this size you are going to need everyone from the power and water to TXDOT on the same page, and quick.

Keep in mind this is the second time this project has been announced, only this time there was somewhat more substance. The video I did receive a copy of but for the caliber of company that Dreamvision is in reference to their CGI works, I was expecting more. It honestly looks like a novice youtuber put it together. What I did not receive were copies of any renderings as those were not available. The renderings I posted were taken from the video which by the way was compiled in May 2013.

Let's also not forget that an indoor ski resort is already on the books to be placed in Grand Prairie less than 30 miles from where Dreamscape might be so I'm not sure how two of these could be supported.

By comparison, Nebraska Furniture Mart is building a 2 million sq ft warehouse and showroom not far from me. That project sits on 200 acres and while the store will open after almost 2.5 years of round the clock construction, the remaining first phase of the surrounding restaurants and other stores will not be complete until mid 2016, almost 4 years after ground was broke.

Long answer short, the project has a chance, but is it a serious one? I'm not convinced there is at this time.

The whole thing just feels like a hot mess. First off, I don't even know what to call it! It seems to have a confusing double-name. Even the video was labeled "DreamVision/Dream Scape" or something. And I like how they had some British guy talking about these dreams for Texas. And you couldn't really get a clear understanding of what the attractions were. Is that indoor skiing inside the mountain? Or are they somehow making snow on the outside? None of it seems to add up or is very clear.

You know the last time I saw a project like this that seems to have so many mixed messages and crossed wires? Hard Rock Park.

Is that indoor skiing inside the mountain?

Inside the mountain is the working theory.

No, I mean *I* know that, but the video and presentation is just so awful and confusing that to most people watching I think it's totally unclear.

The incentive thing has me very surprised. As it stands incentives are being handed out like crazy out here, I'm sure if they want show they can get them when a project of this size.

I also live near the Nebraska Furniture Mart, don't think I've ever been so excited to go to a fruniture store before.

Someone in the local print media researched undeveloped land parcels available in the county on the scale that they're talking about and found that there are none.

Overall details were still scarce but does appear to be funded by Provident Global LLC,

A company that didn't exist a week ago, barely exists today, and is probably the work of someone within the company to give it a hint of financial legitimacy.

Stranger things have happened, but I don't think all of the good intentions in the world can will this project into existence.
