palmerleeberry
That is super duper incredible: it amazes this rider and amusement park flyer. During the Halloween season, you have lots of groups that would construct and operate a haunted house, but I never heard of anyone constructing a dark ride before. But if these people could do it and within their two car garage, then think about the possibility of a group ( as their fund raiser ) constructing their own dark ride inside a leased space ( such as a store block ). If anyone did that around here, then they would be the talk of the town. You better keep your eyes peeled; this might become on ongoing trend! Nrthwnd
You better keep your eyes peeled; this might become on ongoing trend! That, several thousand bucks, and a LOT of lumber will get ya a dark ride! (And the wiring, the tracking, the gag effects, etc...)
RoCo
I am awed. This is so on my Halloween calendar for next year. Fantastic report; thanks so much!
PikaPika
That is awesome! It would be cool to see what kinds of ideas would surface if they did a battle-bots style competition TV show for the best homemade dark ride. Calling all theater and robotics geeks! cal1br3tto
Awesome! It's inspiring that someone can do this in such a minimal space and on a modest budget. A fresh take on dark rides that looks way more imaginative than many bigger ones. So cool that he even offered a fast pass.
Movieguy
This is terrific! I see a lot of impressive haunts where I live, but this just tops all of them. I hope he can get the money and space to expand this ride in the future.
larrygator
Very cool!
printersdevil78
Man, that's awesome! Just the insurance/permits/fire safety standards needed to open something like this to the public in a private residence (not to mention getting an "OK" from the wife...) is daunting; he did all that plus made a kick-butt-looking ride! That's something I'd absolutely love to do someday, but probably never will.
Mstankow
This is way cooler than all the carnival dark rides I've been on. It seems the carnival ones only care to try to startle the riders with jumps. This one tries to tell a story and set a place which is awesome because it does so when 90 percent of the ride is pulpwood.
Jew
This takes home haunts to a new level. Super impressive!
KingRCT3
That's so awesome, and I loved the back story too. It's the second handbuild ghost-train I see (the first one was this amazing one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Rv_KBCARQQ#t=338), will it becomes a new trend? larrygator
A gentleman in Oklahoma (Tom Gore) rescued an old Pretzel Spinning Car dark ride and rebuilt the ride. He actually used to change the theme a few times per year. I'm not sure how many years he ran attraction, but I think it was still running as late as 2010. http://www.bricktownamusement.com/
cfc
^That's pretty cool. Hell, I'm sure his Christmas ride is better than Disney's "Jingle Cruise."

805Andrew
Just saw this. Wow! Really cool homemade dark ride. And he was only charging a dollar to ride? Also the making of video was cool too. Glad I got to see the layout of the ride. Here's to hoping we see more of these in the future.
Nrthwnd
And.... Scott, the creator of the Mystic Motel, has put his dark ride creation on eBay! Which he will create and produce for the buyer.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Theme-Park-Style-Dark-Ride-for-your-Home-Mystic-Motel-The-Ride-Complete-Ride-/221316711996?ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:US:1123

ILoveRides
^ Scott sent me an email about the auction and mentioned, "I want to start fresh next Halloween (with the same concept but even bigger)." It'll be interesting to see what ends up happening.

ILoveRides
^ I wouldn't take what he said as a guarantee that it'll be back . I think it depends on a lot of factors - money, time, if this auction sells or not, the support of his wife, etc. I'm hopeful - but I don't think it's a "sure thing" yet. Thri!!er
Thanks for sharing David & Spears! The family did really an unbelievable job and deserves a keeping unbelievable success to my opinion for that great work! I have a “little bit” a comparison to the german haunted houses, so I'm very astonished... Thanks for the pictures again -- and also for the video, Robb!
