It's that time of year again where we are putting together the next installment of Roller Coasters in the RAW and we need some input from you!

 

First off, please respond to the poll, but also, PLEASE COMMENT and answer as many of the following questions that apply to you:

 

How many DVDs or Blu-Rays do you purchase each year?

 

How many digital downloads do you purchase each year?

 

How do you purchase digital downloads? (iTunes, Stream, etc)

 

Do you download directly from iTunes to your device, or iTunes to your computer, and then transfer to your device?

 

Is a 1.5gb - 2 gb file "too big" for you to download to your device?

In past years, I've been pretty limited in terms of buying DVDs and Blu-Rays myself. I usually get them as gifts. I've bought 2-5 DVDs this year and two Blu-Rays.

 

As far as the RAW videos go, I do not own any of the Blu-Ray versions, but do own all of the DVD versions.

Is a 1.5gb - 2 gb file "too big" for you to download to your device? Most of the digital movies I own are around that size.

DVDs/blu-rays: about two dozen each year, almost all blu-rays. If there's a new RCITR disc coming out I'd purchase a blu-ray copy.

Digital downloads: a handful, more TV shows than movies. I usually purchase via iTunes, and download to my computer. If I'm going to watch it on my phone/iPad I'll download directly to that over wi-fi.

 

A 1.5-2GB file is fine. When downloading TPR digital DVDs, I've found that using a download manager plugin (rather than the default browser download function) gives me a more stable connection and prevents large downloads from dropping out partway through.

Do you download directly from iTunes to your device, or iTunes to your computer, and then transfer to your device? iTunes direct to iPad and/or iPhone. I rarely make purchases via iTunes on my MacBook.

 

Is a 1.5gb - 2 gb file "too big" for you to download to your device? Seems a little large but I wouldn't necessarily mind as I can always remove something after I've watched it to make room for something else.

I am a huge movie fan and avid collector. I've been completely Blu-ray since 2008. I do rent digital films (in HD) for my computer, tablet and HDTV but I never purchase films this way.

 

I purchase about 50 Blu-rays per year. If I'm going to rent a digital download I use Amazon or iTunes. I do redeem the digital copies included with Blu-rays on iTunes and through UltraViolet services Flixster and Vudu.

 

I download to my computer and then transfer to my device unless I'm traveling. A 2GB file is perfect. I can't stand watching low-res films. And coaster videos are way too pretty to watch in SD!

I also stream Amazon Instant Videos to my Roku & Smart TV. I did use iTunes to download Insane Coaster Wars but I don't like the way iTunes plays video with my multiple monitor set up.

Almost exclusively digital downloads. Purchase maybe 1 or 2 DVD or BlueRay per year. Choice of DVD or BluRay based on price and availability. I generally won't pay more for BlueRay. Most digital download is off Amazon Prime or Apple, typically 2 or 3 per month. Most viewing overall is streaming on basic Netflix service. I view these almost exclusively on the TV - almost never on laptop or iPAD.

How many DVDs or Blu-Rays do you purchase each year? Since 2011 I have acquired over 275 Blu-ray's, none of which I paid more than $15 for. That is not to say I own the bargain bin. The opposite is true. I have all the Pixar movies on Blu-ray, including the Pixar Shorts compliations. The vast majority of my Blu's are award-winning top-billing movies. I've simply become a very good at finding and jumping on various Blu-ray deals. On the day Iron Man 3 was released, I got it from Toys R Us for $12 thanks to a manufacturer's coupon and a TRU sale offer. There are all sorts of deals out there. It just takes research, patience, and timing.

 

I have not purchased one DVD in that time since DVDs are an inferior product compared to Blu-ray.

 

 

 

How many digital downloads do you purchase each year? None. As with DVD, digital downloads are usually SD quality. The ones that claim to be HD...I've never once seen/heard even an HD digital download with the same PQ/AQ as a Blu-ray. I know you can't view a Blu-ray on a mobile device, but I do have a laptop with a Blu-ray player. That's what I primarily will use when traveling. My mobile device is not used to watch video files at all.

For example, back when Coaster Expeditions were put up as free downloads on Black Friday, I downloaded them no problem simply using my web browser. Never had a problem or interruption.

 

 

On a general comment, I would have loved to purchase Roller Coasters in the RAW Blu-ray for the family. Unfortunately the whole "porn-esque" angle to it just wouldn't have gone over well as the family has no idea how something like that can be part of anyone's sense of humor, to say nothing of trying to explain it to young children. I don't hold that choice against TPR at all. Personally I thought it was a hilarious theme for a coaster video compilation. But the joke would have fallen very flat with a heavy thud with the rest of the family. Just throwing it out there in case it's useful feedback at all.
