Erik Johnson
After taking a year off, the local county fair, simply known as The Alachua County Fair, has started back up this week. Just two hours north of the theme park capital of the world, you can find this fair in Gainesville, Florida. I wanted to share with you some photos but it is required that you listen to the theme song at least once while you view the photos. Sure, you will probably want to kill me after listening to it for about 4 seconds because you will never be able to forget it. The song will reside in and eat away at your brain for the rest of your life. Just ask Elissa! AlachuaCountyFairSong.wmv Amazing Alachua County Fair Song Tonight's admission was only two cans of food! We're going to the fair! So, that is how we get our milk. Everything that you wanted to know about chickens. This year's winners included a hand made bulldozer. A super cute.....awwwww....photo of a rodent. And a super evil looking horse! We missed the Kachunga show. Kachunga is a man eating gator if you did not know. How many times have you seen a travelling sea lion show? Let us check out the rides. This would be the ride company. BCA for short. More intimidating than Intimidator! It is a combination of a mirror maze and a fun house. It has to be great if you can win a Domo. Not as good as the one at Knoebels. Any good park or fair must have one of these....right? Just in case if you have never seen one before. The fair actually has two credits this year. Dragon Wagon! The other would be a Wacky Worm. It might be the fastest Wacky Worm on the planet. See anything you would like to win? Ass kissing ass? Just one more month....Muhahahaha! Is that legal in public? There were a lot of special animal exhibits this year. This can not be good for you. Deep fried Oreo Twinkie? I guess a few must have escaped Angus's clutches. This is what the game looks like. Even at the fair, you can win giant stuffed animals that you have no idea what you would do with it once you got it home. The round-up had a strobe light in the middle of it. RCT 4: The Fair Edition. Wow, they have one of these? I never seen one of these before. It is like a cross of a paratrooper and a scrambler. Probably the worst photo of Ring of Fire ever taken. Gravitron: Thriller? I guess 2000 is so last decade. Nitro! Scorpion does go backwards as well. Can't you tell? The Music Express, AKA Rock & Roll, was the most popular ride of the evening. Super Fast! Dark Ride! Oh wait....really? Awwwwwwoooooooo! Guess the classic monster movie. I have no idea what she is from. This one is a bit easier. Dr. Suess rip off fun house. Everything suddenly closed down in about a 15 second period. Must be closing time. We finish up with a final photo of a spider. paiging_jen
I read the thread title and instantly started singing "We're going to the fair....the Alachua County Fair (fair)" before I even opened it. Then the first thing I see is the actual theme song. I'm not sure whether to thank you or curse you. It's been too long since I've heard that song. larrygator
Erik - Fun Spot used to have the Scorpion ride, it was called Cobra at Fun Spot. I've never seen another one myself. http://www.themeparkreview.com/parks/photo.php?pageid=542&linkid=9592 Â Two cans of food is too much to pay for the Alachua County Fair. Meteornotes
I hope you didn't catch any diseases while visiting! Though any fair that has a giant gator and a giant spider is pretty cool. Â And that theme song could be used to torture information out of prisoners. Â dt

cfc
Don't click on the link! To do so invites madness! You have been warned!
simon8899
I always like a Round-Up on fairs....sadly they are more and more seldom found. Also rare to have a strobe-light on an US ride as in my experience they were mostly removed in parks as some poeple got seizures from them. Here nearly all rides have strobe-lights for nighttime - love it when all other lights are switched off and the ride is bathed by a dozen or so strobelights! gisco
Doesn't look like it was to crowded when you were there. Â Did you ride the Wacky Worm?
cfc
Did you ride the Wacky Worm? Â That just sounds so wrong.
sfog1985
That theme song/jingle is incredible. So irritating yet so memorable...and it even makes for a suitable go-along to the pics as you noted, with its major cheesiness factor providing a nice complement to them. Erik Johnson
Doesn't look like it was to crowded when you were there. Did you ride the Wacky Worm?  I actually did not ride any of the rides while I was there. I instead spent my money on fair food. The crowds were very light that evening. I remember the fair being a lot larger and more crowded when I was younger. crazydaveh
Glad to see the Alachua County Fair is back this year! It does seem like there is a lack of rides compared to years past, but I believe a different ride company was used before the year off. Are they having wrestling out there again this year? I did a live interview with "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes a few years back in my TV days there... It doesn't get better than "The American Dream" at the Alachua County Fair! cfc
^"That's right, my friend! The American Dream is here to get the Wacky Worm credit and go to the pay winda when he whups Jake Roberts--in public, if you will!"
Erik Johnson
I do not think that there is wrestling this year.

aimster
How many times have you seen a travelling sea lion show? I actually have a couple times. Looks like it's the same show that's at the Florida State Fair in Tampa.
