CoasterT98 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Hello everyone, I just was on Nitro yesterday, and I think it's a great B&M hyper! I'm going to BGW this summer and I was wondering how does it stack up to Apollo's Chariot? Which is a better overall ride? And better first drop? Ive seen many reviews on both, but I was looking for a comparison. Thanks again!
Skycoastin Steve Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 The best seat you could ever ride in on a B&M hyper is the back right seat on Apollo. Nitro is incredibly overrated in my opinion, but that's just my opinion.
FeelTheFORCE Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 They are very similar, as most B&M Hypers are to one another. I do like Nitro slightly better, but they are both great rides!
Ed Farmer Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 I liked Apollo better. Much like Raging Bull, the first drop taken in the back seat is the redeeming factor. Past that, it's very similar to most B&M out and back hypers. There is a notable moment toward the end of the return run. Its also at a Busch park, so score one for that.
BaMiTsPaT Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 In my top 10 I have Nitro at 4 and AC at 5, so if that shows anything, it is that these are two very similar rides. The only reason that I gave Nitro the edge is because I think night rides on Nitro are INCREDIBLE, and it is a bit longer and in my opinion more intense. Both are exceptional rides though!
CardCraze Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 I have Nitro at 4 and AC at 5 as well. AC is a great coaster, but I prefer the airtime on Nitro.
Saldek Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 The best seat you could ever ride in on a B&M hyper is the back right seat on Apollo. For Apollo's Chariot I like the back left seat much better than the back right. The turn on the 3rd drop makes it feel like you're falling out and the airtime on the fan turn on the return run is far better than the right side. As far as Nitro goes I like it equally as much as AC.
IWillWait4TheFront! Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 For some reason i like Nitro a lot more than AC, maybe I was just happier when I rode it. I have Nitro and Diamondback at the top of my list of B&M hypers.(have not been on I232 yet)
Hang And Bang Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 My rides on Nitro felt kind of weak, not much air or sensation of speed. AC, on the other hand, blows me away. Plenty of ejector and floater air, and in general just a better layout. Also, as has been pointed out, it's at a Busch park which is always a bonus.
DiveMachine Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I don't get how a ride being at one park is a "bonus" if a ride is great, then its great, no matter where its located. I have X2 as my #1 coaster, and I know that it isn't because its at SFMM. I give Nitro the point because of consistent strong floater throughout the entire ride, the final bunny hills are sick!
Hang And Bang Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 ^ You're right, it really doesn't have any bearing on a ride's quality where it's located. I just really love BGW.

Seriously, I've ridden Nitro in the front, back, middle, everywhere. The airtime is very muted, nowhere near as extended as Apollo. The helix is definitely awesome, but seriously, there might only be one or two great airtime hills on Nitro. Riding in the back of Apollo has several "oh $hit!" moments, especially the first drop, drop off the brake run, and the final ravine drop. Every time I go back to SFGAd, I ride it again hoping it will get better, and it never does. Glad I'm not the only one who sees it that way.

It was tongue in cheek. I think Apollo is the better ride even if it were placed over concrete in Wyoming.

David H Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I'm gonna agree with most of what Steve said and disagree with Larry. Nitro is certainly a FUN ride, but it just doesn't have any solid forces. It's fairly fast and has some nice moments of floater airtime, but nothing that makes me terribly excited. I've never understood all the hubbub about Nitro, especially back when it was ranking in the top 5. It's never even been in my top 5 coasters in the park, much less in the world! I'd honestly rather ride El Toro, Superman, Batman, Kingda Ka, Green Lantern (I'm assuming, if it rides at all like it did at SFKK), and back when the Chillers and even Viper were there, those too. It's not a bad ride, by any means, and I'm happy to ride it when I'm at the park, but it just doesn't really do what I like most in coasters. While Apollo doesn't rank up there with the netter Intamin hypers, it's my favorite of the B&M Hypers mainly because it actually has some stronger airtime, particularly on the return run to the station, which puts it above the rest.
crazywolf88 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 ^ You're right, it really doesn't have any bearing on a ride's quality where it's located. I just really love BGW. For certain rides it does, imagine phantoms revenge built SFMM style... parking lot coaster.
Intimidator305 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 B&M hypers are in my opinion the most overrated coasters in the industry and I have no clue how they rank so high in the Golden Ticket Awards... Seriously, you can carry on a full conversation with the rider next to you the whole time and my ride photos always look like I'm sitting on a park bench instead of on a roller coaster. But I'm the type of enthusiast who loves intensity so that's why I feel that way... and I don't have an orgasm like most of you when my butt comes up off the seat. Back on topic now, I've ridden Apollo way more than Nitro (only been to SFGAdv once) but I would have to give the victory to Nitro. Apollo is fun and a bit more unique, but Nitro is fun and a bit more forceful.

Apollo's Chariot is definitely a "backseat" ride (that's where I always head).

I think they are sort of dull forces wise, but AC dos have some good moments and an amazing location.

larrygator Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 You know I meant to change your "back right seat" to just "back row" and I failed. To elaborate. I used to enjoy AC more and actually wasn't that big a fan of Nitro, but my opinions have changed over time.
Skycoastin Steve Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 ^Hey, it happens. I change my mind on rides all the time.
blade1 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I got to ride Nitro in 80 degree weather last Oct. on a slow day and AC later in the week in 50 degree weather, also on a slow day. Given these differences, Nitro was superior in nearly every way. My front seat rides were the best I have ever had on a B&M hyper. I rode AC in the both the front and back and came away underwhelmed. Hopefully it will be warmer the next time I get to ride it. Nitro left me impressed.
chargersmichael Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Apollo's Chariot. Apollo's Chariot is my #5 coaster and Nitro is #6. I just liked everything about Apollo compared to Nitro. It just has better views, theming, landscaping, and just a better ride. I love both though. I love all B&M Hypercoasters! They're my favorite!
