Incinerator Tuesdays Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 The typical age to begin breeding llamas is two years for males (they frequently are not fertile before that but we remove all of our six month old boys from access to open females just in case) and in the case of females we meet the dual requirement of 18 months and at least 200 pounds. Llamas are induced ovulators (as are rabbits) meaning that they don't have a heat cycle, can be bred year round, must be bred to ovulate, and the males do not go into rut. Â The actual breeding of llamas is not the hurried affair that it is in other animals nor does it occur in the standing position that most people associate with breeding of other species. Llama breeding usually begins when the female llama "kushes" (lies down with legs tucked under) signaling her acceptance of the male. While the male breeds he makes a distinct "orgling" sound puffing his cheeks for the duration of the 20 to 60 minute event. At some point the female will usually turn her head and gaze up at the male rapturously, giving him what we think of as "the look". At various points she may attempt to rise, nibble the surrounding vegetation, (boredom?) or lie on her side (trying to take a nap?) looking totally disinterested. If all goes as planned on her next visit to the male she will let fly with volleys of spit letting him know in no uncertain terms that she is no longer available. The normal course of events will be for a baby llama to appear approximately 11.5 months later.
Scaparri Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 So, this week, my total number of views that I've had on my webshots page doubled. I had almost 9000 views this week alone. The majority of these were in my Cedar Point Summer Job section. What on earth happened? Did a crap-ton of people discover my photos page and decide that the summer job section sound enticing? Strange.
smells_like_team_disney Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 I found a bump under my left chest and decided to play it safe and see a doctor. The doctor said I need to have a mammogram  . I didn't know men could get breast cancer :? .
ebl Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 ^ It's not as common as women, but it does happen. Hopefully that's not what your lump is, but if so, you've caught it early. Â Eric
