175 MPH wind gusts will tear concrete roofs off of buildings as well as turn trees and cars into oversized projectiles.

 

Kat currently has 175 MPH sustained winds with gusts up to 210.

Chuck Henry is a local news field reporter that was covering some of our wild fire action a few years back. He was asked by the fire department to evacuate an area that was out of control. Insted of leaving, he took himself, his crew, and their news van closer to the fire to get more in-depth coverage. Much to his surprise, he got trapped and had to be rescued by the very same firemen that asked him earlier to leave. Needless to say, they all escaped with only minor burns, but lost the truck and several hundred thousand dollars worth of equipment.

 

He was later interviewed by another field reporter for his own channel and came across as a whiny little ungrateful prick. He seemed more sorry he didn't get the story than the fact that he had endangered several dozen people.

I hope everyone gets out the way of this storm, I have never encounted a Tropical Storm but it's mother nature at her worst.

 

I've checked SFNO website and there are no special rides in the park worth saving , i.e. Bolderdash, Magnum XL.

 

It's a shame the park has to sufer this, but it may be a good thing as Six Flags can build new and better rides.

I would expect Batman: The Ride to still be standing along with Jester mainly due to the fact, that I believe these rides are built and manfactured to be able to survive extreme weather conditions. However i'm uncertain about the woodies future.

 

I do hope the people of New Orleans are safe and survive this hurricane, and can rebuild there city afterwards.

But I mean coasters are strong structures. That have to hold all that weight from the trains and they can handle winds. The wooden might be damaged a little but not that much. Its not right in New Orleans either.

That was officially the highlight of the entire fire coverage that year. I thought it was hilarious when he began crying on live TV and talking about how they take things for granted and he could have died. Then the next day he was out there again.

Most coasters consist of mostly air. Most columns are round which is great for wind tolerance. Same for the track. If they can withstand the pounding of vertical and lateral forces exerted on them daily then they can handle winds whistling about them. Really, think about the air dynamics as it goes around the tracks and supports. I bet they survive quite well actually.

Good news! The coasters are still there, at least one or more are. In other words, the Vekoma rides are underwater, but the Beemer and the CCI are too.

I just caught a glimpse of SFNO on the show A Current Affair.. They showed Batman and the Zydeco Scream boomerang, and it was a crazy site.. everything is flooded, the buildings in front of the coasters are submerged. there is 0 visible land in the shot I saw.

 

I feel so bad for everyone that has gone through Katrina. We thought we had it bad in FL... This is insane.

Maybe if the rides are broken down, they would transfer the roller coasters from other six flags to that one

Considering the current(no pun intended) state of Six Flags, I think they'll take the insurance money and run with it. You'd have to rewire the whole park if it's submerged. That would take millions in itself. The computer systems that run the rides must be shot.
